Lots of jumping to conclusions here without the full story. When I listen to the Roffey interview re Petracca I hear someone with their hands tied and not being able to say what she perhaps could. She's presidential enough to know not to say "Christian's being a prima donna".

My overall read is that the club is bending over backwards to not portray Trac as the fill-in-the-dots that he is as it would bury everyone, Trac and the club. In the meantime, the club and its staff become the punching bag.

Exactly. Many of the same posters who are frustrated by Roffey not speaking precisely on the matter are also angered she isn't doing enough to resolve it, without wondering if perhaps these things could be related. It's clearly a delicate situation, and it's not just MFC members who listen to the radio.

Keep Gary away from the club.. his record whenever he gets involved has been atrocious

hes been involved once as part of a panel for coaching. Yep his pick was wrong, but he has passion for the club, takes no [censored], and has enough respect inside and outside the club to make a change.

Roffey is a pathetic leader

How is the club in free fall?  We just finished a season that was ravaged by injury and brain farts where we were in contention for the finals right up until the penultimate round.  We lost to Port by 2 points, and three other games by less than a kick.  We blooded a host of new players.  Those are all facts.

There is a lot of media speculation about what is happening or has happened with Trac.  Let's stick to the facts.

Trac has requested a trade which will be almost impossible to get done.  If it does get done, we will be much, much better for it.  Trac has already lost over 5kgs and who knows when he will be able to train again?

How is this free fall?  It isn't.  It's all a beat up. Settle pettle

“Any time. Christian is clear. I’ve said to him, any time he wants to talk to me, any time he wants me to come to a meeting (I’m) very happy to do so …”

That suggests that she has spoken with him at some time recently.

My immediate guess was that she's taken the modern easy way out of sending him a text.

Some of the young’uns don’t like being cold-called on a phone call. Text rules supreme. So easy way out may not be the case.

Surely Trac’s grievances of people not checking in with him wouldn’t extend to someone like Roffey. It would be the likes of Richo, Goody, Max, Mini, Oliver etc he would have wanted more from. I wonder if the fact all the players went on their mid-season break compounded the issue? A bit of out of sight out of mind?

My point is people seem to think we’re in some unprecedented dive towards folding the club. We’re not even losing as many players as the Tigers are (after Dimma bailed on everyone for a better deal) and we’re starting from a stronger position.

It’s obviously not ideal but the only confirmed out is ANB, and Trac seemingly if a deal can be done. The club will be fully operational in 2025.

Sadly it seems some on here want us to fold, or at the very least be in a terminal loop of 2008 to 2013.

Sacking everyone achieves nothing. It would please the media though. As would all our best players leaving, but only to the clubs they follow of course.

Not to bang on about this, but in the interview the message from the surgeon was that Trac was in a critical condition because of the internal bleeding. It's Petracca who then extrapolated that to "I might not make it", but that's not what the surgeon said.

Not to diminish the seriousness of Trac's injuries either.

“He needs to acknowledge that when you sign a marquee deal, you're a leader of the footy club."

Phil Davis believes Christian Petracca and Melbourne need to get into a room and work out a solution.

You dont get a blood transfusion from internal bleeding unless there are signs of shock such as lowering blood pressure and increasing pulse.

Circulatory shock can be fatal.

So let me get this straight, the meeting at Gawn’s bar had someone from the public leak details and now this other casual drinks with players has been leaked. How dumb can you be?

The rustic Marion Wine Bar in Gertrude St, Fitzroy, was the scene for a peculiar little gathering of Melbourne players on Tuesday night.

Clearly, the players didn't seem to care - or they thought they couldn't be heard — by the table of serious football fans sitting at the next table.

The pleasant surprise seeing AFL players on a windy Tuesday night was one thing, their astonishment at what the players - clearly frustrated - were saying about Christian Petracca was another.

So much so, notes were taken.

Words such as "weird" were heard, and how Petracca's "weirdness" was accepted at Melbourne, but would not be accepted at another club.

Can’t say weird now, isn’t it “neurodiverse”?

Petracca's statement during the The Howie Games interview, very lightly edited for clarity.

"I remember giving the surgeon my friend’s number. I think it was after the surgery so this must have been 3am in the morning. I didn’t know at the time as I was drugged up, but my friend came into the ICU the next morning and basically said that the surgeon said I might not make it basically, that I was in critical condition, because of the internal bleeding and everything."

The timeline of events isn't clear, but it's a given that he was in critical condition at some stage (I'm guessing at least due to unstable blood pressure), which by its nature means that immediate life-saving intervention was required, hence the chance that he might not survive. There's no indication however that Christian nearly died.

Please note, I am in no way attempting to diminish the severity of the injuries and level of trauma experienced by Christian or his friend. Just trying to bring some clarity to a lot of wild statements currently being thrown around on here based on edited snippets and hearsay.

I do not have any problem with the Roffey interview.

She is President of the club and there are more than a few levels of management between her and the players that would come into play in the situation that Petracca found himself in after his injury. This is also true of the present situation with whatever is going on between the club and the player.

There is the football department with the coaching staff, welfare staff and a whole lot of other people that would be the first line of contact when there are problems that need to be resolved and then there is the head of the football department and then a CEO, in this case Pert, that would be in line to be informed and step in to assist with resolution.

To my mind, the President would be kept informed of the evolving situation but not have any hands on detailed role in resolving the situation.

Once this whole thing plays out, I would, in Kate's position look for a detailed review of the handling of the whole thing from the time of the injury to the outcome what ever it is. I do not see this a an open public enquiry but rather a normal inhouse review of a extraordinary  situation to ensure that the lessons are learnt.

All that was said in this interview supports my thinking that both sides are being very careful about what first hand information is out in the public space so as to not burn bridges. That makes me think that the situation, at the moment is looked at by both sides as retrievable. That, over time can change.

We all have to keep in mind that in the absence of first hand cold hard facts the football media will run with sensational storylines using imagination and projection and, dare I say it, random thoughts to build momentum into something that takes on a life of it's own.

I would prescribe a Bex and a good lie down for a number of people posting on this. It is a long way from being resolved and you need to pace yourself.

You reckon our football department hasn’t already done a lot of that planning throughout the season and continue to do so? Many people are turning up to work and doing their job at the club still despite the media also doing theirs.

No I dont

The whole year has had ongoing distractions throughout the club

There's real management problems coming to light that cannot be covered by the bs culture cover up abd the double speak

Sounds like Gazey knows more than he letting on.

Yes (reading between the lines) his main point was that what was being touted around in the press was not an accurate account of things based on his catch up with Tracc (as mates).

Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
