If he wants to go then let him leave.

It will hurt seeing him play elsewhere, but he will always be a premiership hero to me.

Interesting that he mentioned Casey as a side problem to the bigger issues going on. Once again we pay for being a smaller club.

I really miss Angus Brayshaw in moments like this. All I keep thinking about is that interview with Gary Lyon post premiership where he was saying, “This is our club”..

😔

Our club!

Were Petraccas tears just crocodile tears?

Normally I would agree with you but after waiting 50 years for a premiership I thought that I will always have that memory but even that will now be tarnished forever if he leaves the club in this insidious manner

Kinda get it..

Here's my context.   He was part of a team. I see it as a Team's triumph.

We, the MFC, are bigger than any player.

I'm really not fussed what he does. He helped us in 21. He's more than welcome to contribute...again.   He's but one.

He only tarnishes himself.  The Cup won't ;)

So basically after being the player that made certain we won our first premiership in a lifetime he is leaving due to our unprofessionalism. That is so MFC.

No one player alone can be credited with winning a premiership.

He isn’t leaving due to what you perceive to be our unprofessionalism.

Petracca's health and well-being issues lowers his value.  He's damaged goods who can't have his heart rate above 100 (for how long)

A full pre-season?  Not going to happen

Right now, he can't even do any light running

Will he pass a medical within the next 2 months? (the trade period ends on Oct 16th) Highly doubtful

In my view we're not going to get Carlton's first round pick + McKay.  It will be a virtual straight swap

Wouldn't hurt to throw in an ambit claim of course

That's all things considered (keeping it real)

Not a fire sale but what club would want to take on all his issues?  That's the other side of the story

This is what will happen next…

1 The club will say nothing to be seen here, move along.

2 Christian will indicate that he has had a difficult time of it, and initially he and his family were disgruntled with the way things were handled.

2 Christian will say that these issues have been discussed with the club and all is good!

3 Christian will say he loves the club and he wants to be a one club player

4 The club will release a statement that emphasizes that Christian is a required player and respected leader of the group, who has been earmarked as a future captain.

5 Tom Morris will serve up a grab that reiterates that Christian Petracca would leave the club if he wanted to, but at this stage he doesn’t want to!

Oh yeah hows this working for you both?

Funny how you've completely turned on Petracca WCW. Stating he's a 'Diva' because supposedly he wants to play in big crowds..

Bit hypocritical considering you're the first to smash anyone on here that says anything remotely negative about any player and here you are throwing shade at him. The guy suffering mental health and you're calling him a Diva.. classy.

Maybe Tom Morris was right all along eh?

As distasteful as it may be to Christian, he may have to go off-Broadway to the Gold Coast.

If Trac is truly the way it seems, I can’t imagine him wanting to play second fiddle to Cripps.

You've taken a vote/poll?  Even if true, it  would just speak to the immaturity of football supporters when it comes to things about their club.  Too much emotion clouds judgement, and since there is almost nothing to say why anyone supports one team over another, emotion has to be the main factor.  ( I support Melbourne because my footy-ignorant mother thought Geelong and C'wood looked like prison stripes and red and blue looked nice. Doesn't stop me from being one-eyed, moaning about umpires, bad treatment by the AFL/MRO, you name it.)

Christian was all in on the dees. Signed on to be a player for life. The club have dropped the ball to let this happen. Pure incompetence

Where has he said this stuff? I don't have time to read the entire thread...

McKay took a pay cut, because Carlton extended Curnow first. My guess is 900k.

We might have to pay McKay a bit more to get him to play with us

I'm assuming that Petracca has played his last game for us so have switched to full-on trade mode

No time for sentiment, get a deal done*

*A lot of deals are done 'in principle' before the trade period (IMV)

My take,

  • Having a player play for you if he doesn't want to be there, will never work out.
  • An injury such as this may never be overcome, both from a physical and mental sense.
  • The excuses to play as part of a bigger Vic club...I know there are bigger clubs than the MFC, but only one club, who is in the window plays basically all their home games at the MCG, and thats Collingwood. Bombers and Blues are still tied to Marvel, Richmond isn't in the window, and the Hawks don't fit the profile do they?
  • If a deal with McKay does eventuate, please can the footy dept double check we don't get scammed with Ben! :D

If it is to be this year, the only saving grace is that there's no way he could get to the Pies. That would be completely unacceptable.

Let’s be perfectly clear, this is an act of treason, from which there is no return. We can hold him to ransom, but he has had long enough to pledge allegiance. He has not done so. That alone has caused irreparable damage to the Club. I cannot see a way back to mend the damage and the relationship. It’s like the ex girlfriend that changes the moment you breakup and you feel like you never really knew at all.

cut him loose. Make it a win

The remark earlier here that Trac isn't himself post-injury trauma is something that I can confirm on a personal level (to some extent, not comparing my experiences to anyone else's). You see the world differently, small issues get magnified out of all proportion, you lose sight of the big picture and it takes good people and support to keep you on the straight and narrow and restore some measure of equilibrium.

No idea of anything re Trac, but wouldn't surprise me if he was struggling, nor that he might not fully grasp that he was.

What really irks me is that the way he’s gone about it, means that he’s made it so hard to keep him, while also making it equally difficult to get a satisfactory trade done.

I do not care how little you think about our club, we do NOT deserve to be treated this way by a player we gave the world to.

He could follow A.Yze to Richmond to help with their rebuild (they have the biggest membership).

They have plenty of draft pics and Lynch.

Don't fight for a player who doesn't want to be at MFC. Can only be disruptive to us, and without being driven he could let himself decline.

Most big professional leagues around the world transfer players all the time. AFL has been an outlier, though is catching up. Tracc is part of the world's high performance athletes, and expects what that cohort does.

They'll probably offer us Tom Mitchell and a pair of Grundy's boots that he left behind and the soft [censored] club that we are we'll [censored] take it.

What a farce by all involved in this [censored] show that we have let the club go from potential Dynasty to Dung Heap.

Heads have to roll.

Wasn’t Casey an hours drive two years ago when he signed for 7 years?

Seriously why does no one get this by now?

No - signing a long contract did not indicate he was accepting of the Casey commute or our low crowds.

When he signed for 7 years, it provided him financial security. That is the ONLY purpose of a contract to a player.

Contracts have rarely prevented a player from leaving as once they lodge a trade request, very few clubs would destabilise themselves or set the precedent for future player retention by holding a player against their will, and instead will work to get what they can.

In light of Gus's sad retirement, I'd have thought Trac would have wanted to finish what they started together.

Well I can tell you the 'Casey being too far' and the 'bigger crowds' are just PR.

I didn’t say that at all. And just because you have nuffies like @dazzledavey36 clapping your post, doesn’t mean you comprehended what I said.

I said our culture is not better or worse than other clubs. I never said there were no problems, did I?

By the way, since you seem to think we have problems, please can you tell us all what they are? Or maybe your happy clapper mate can tell us what those cultural issues are

Every club has issues, and yet I don’t see their club president releasing statements to appease their highly strung supporters.

You know what, you're right and I'm wrong, there is nothing wrong with our culture, despite what the majority of journalists say. If they were smart enough they would have contacted you before they printed their lies.

Besides that, I'm sure that President Roffey has more important things to do than brief journalists and defend the club, things like host functions and committee meetings.

  • GAMEDAY: Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons return to the MCG to face the Tigers in their annual Blockbuster on ANZAC Eve for the 10th time. The Dees will be desperate to reignite their stuttering 2025 campaign and claim just their second win of the season. Can the Demons dig deep and find that ANZAC Spirit to snatch back to back wins?

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
