The desire to play in front of large crowds dates back to long before his current injury.

IMHO… He’s a diva.

Yeah he was very vocal on the radio, since 2023.

We may not be the biggest club but by no means we are small.

I can see him leaving St Kilda ala Luke Jackson, if the Saints had done the right thing and taken him in the 2015 draft.

Hard to imagine a more catastrophic cluster×××× than Melbourne over the past three years. Some bad luck, yes, but an enormous amount of self-inflicted damage. It's really quite pathetic. At the moment, it seems that the slate needs to be wiped clean...and that probably begins with the coach, who is implicated in most of these calamities. I wanted to have faith in him, but the faith has gone. As for the silent president,  Roffey. Hmm.

Talking about it in SEN now, Petracca has told the club he wants out, in my opinion they’ve gotta get rid of the coach, the club is rotting, it’s rotting from the top, Goodwin OUT!!

The problem now is, if true, it's not Trac [censored] on the clubs medical department, or unhappy about the footy dept. It's Trac [censored] on the fans. And that'll be hard for him to come back from

I don't know how much or how little I'm allowed to post, but here's some of it:

Contracted Carlton key forward Harry McKay has emerged as the key to unlocking a potential trade of Melbourne superstar Christian Petracca, who has reminded the club and teammates of his desire to leave the Demons.

The Norm Smith medallist reiterated to his teammates on Saturday night, and the club during his exit interview on Monday, that he wants to play for a rival Victorian club in 2025, despite public guarantees from Melbourne’s CEO, coach and football boss that Petracca would not be traded under any circumstances.

Three sources who were at Melbourne’s end-of-season function on Saturday night said there was tension surrounding Petracca’s presence and that it was noticeably uncomfortable between him and several teammates.

Petracca’s issues with Melbourne stem from long before he suffered an agonising and life-threatening injury in a collision with Collingwood captain Darcy Moore in the King’s Birthday game.

He became frustrated during the 2023 season when he believed the club failed to act strongly enough in its dealings with fellow superstar Clayton Oliver, who was enduring several off field issues.

He has also told the club, on more than one occasion, that he wants to play more consistently in front of larger crowds.

If this is true l don’t want him at our club, it reeks of entitlement wanting to play in front of bigger Victorian crowd ( l would not be giving him his wish)

Trade him to an interstate club for the best deal we can get.

Oliver has been busting his guts this year to get respect back & Petracca’s not willing to forgive him? (they were best mates)

Low crowds didn’t seem to bother him when he accepted a 7 million dollar deal

It’s weak & gutless IF TRUE

Note the most important line in the article is " Trac wont ask for a trade for fear of further inflaming the situation"

There is tension and some bridges to repair, but if Trac doesn't formally ask to go, he stays where he is. Wasn't it a few years ago that Sam Maclure had Clarry upset with the club and heading of to Carlton (whom he barracks for). I have heard this story before.

For what it is worth a former board member told me Friday night at a club function that Trac is not himself at the moment and post trauma he is very unsettled.

Nice spot up Older Demon, nearly missed that.

Sam Edmund on SEN confirmed McClure’s story is true.

Cornes is urging Melbourne not to trade him as we have all the power.

Hence my comment about Mr Bontempelli.

Complete opposite to what Petracca is doing. I have no doubt Bont could've played for a "big" club, instead he'll finish his career as a Bulldogs legend and Brownlow medallist.

Let’s be perfectly clear, this is an act of treason, from which there is no return. We can hold him to ransom, but he has had long enough to pledge allegiance. He has not done so. That alone has caused irreparable damage to the Club. I cannot see a way back to mend the damage and the relationship. It’s like the ex girlfriend that changes the moment you breakup and you feel like you never really knew at all.

cut him loose. Make it a win

what makes little sense is the article says he told the club during his exit interview on Monday, that he wants to play for a rival Victorian club in 2025 but also states he wont ask for a trade for fear of further inflaming the situation.

so he wants to play for another club but he won't ask for a trade?

is that like hoping to win the lottery but not willing to buy a ticket?

This is what I keep hearing. I think the guy has gone through hell with these injuries and the mental trauma.

We all keep asking for answers from the man when he may simply be waiting until her has a clearer head.

All this conjecture is pretty useless. The media are pushing this 'pressure' narrative on Trac to come to decisions when in actual fact behind closed doors there's really no rush at this stage for Trac or the club and there's some healing to be done before any media announcements.

Ever since Gus left and Clarry went off the rails, Trac maybe surrounded himself with the wrong sort

Have a real bitter taste in my mouth over this one.  It doesn’t hurt like I thought it would… somehow none of it has come as a huge shock.

He’s contracted.  Sell him.
He’s doing best by him, we need to do best by us.

It’s hoping to get a trade and blame it all on the club so you don’t damage your brand on the way out.

That's right.

If true it really thumbs his nose at our fans and completely trashes our brand. We spent so long clawing our way back up from the sewers for relevancy in this competition but the moral of the story is that the big clubs will always be superior. If that is the case then he should have asked to leave a lot sooner, could have gotten his cake and eaten it too.

If true of course.

what a ridiculous statement. We signed up our star to a long term deal

If we didn’t he walks for not much as a Free Agent. You can’t control a players mind.

The management of the club should have prevented the best player from getting disgruntled and walking out on the club. How is this not their fault?

I'm surprised with posters taking Trac's side against the club. No player is bigger than our club.

Great player and gave his all on the pitch. we can't fault his effort in that regard.

He's been through a tough time with the injury but i have to say, it comes across like he's the first player to ever experience a bad injury. His body language hasn't been great this season. He's made stupid comments in the past about us not making enough noise.

He's made a right mess of this. Why sign a 7 year contract if you want to opt out at the first sign of trouble for the club?

Trac isn't invested in our club so best we do our best to facilitate a trade. Love bomb McKay i say and try to convince him to switch.

It's going to be awkward if a trade can't be brokered. I don't want to accept someone back into the fold that said they don't want to be with us.

What a clusterf this is. Thanks Trac.

Wait til the Tiges have traded out everyone and give him the ultimatum. Fix your [censored] now, or the only team you're going to is Richmond.

Do the same next year. We have the whip hand.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
