So what does a coach replacement look like soft cap wise?

If we have to pay Goody out now, assuming we are close to the soft cap limit, how do we bring in a new coach? What if the new coach wants assistants etc? Do the payouts count in the soft cap?

Surely Mr Green is talking to the next president Smith? And coming up with a plan to get the club back on track if it means clearing out the coaches and putting some players on notice so be it, get it done and set up the club for success in the near future

I'm sure they are talking but I doubt it is about sacking a coach, it is a big step to sack a premiership coach with nearly 2 years on his contract when there is no CEO in place and a 'lame duck' GM Football.

Apparently football has little if anything ti do with love, in fact I’ll go as far as saying it has nothing to do with love. As far as I can see we play the way we train, soccer balls, laughter, a few hugs and away we go. In all seriousness we are alarmingly bad atm. Goodwin has probably got 6 weeks left as coach. Richardson can go now. I was extremely confident preseason so I’m feeling a little let down. Langford looked good, jeez I hope Lindsay is ok. Viney is done by the looks of it and 4 years on a new contract, oh boy wow wee! Petty has gone backwards but worst is our clearance game, we’re getting smashed.

Let's hope so.

But they might also just write off 25

I have

Irresponsible of the club giving Viney 4 yrs, used the instability of the club last year to great effect.

I would have thought 2 yrs was more than enough.

One of the things that has really frustrated me throughout Goodwin and this list management team’s tenure is their inability to cut dead wood until it becomes bleedingly obvious that they won’t make it. We have the best recruiter in the business and we give him so few picks to work with.

Watching Casey (fortunately I missed the main game for a family event) today and last week it is abundantly clear we failed with our delistings at the end of last year. Billings, Verrall, Laurie and Woewodin, with big question marks on Brown, Sestan, Adams, Kentfield and Howes. I’m not proposing they all should have been delisted but it’s too many players who have shown very little and lack outstanding attributes. This has been a pattern with this list management team.

Good riddance Goodwin, Lamb and co.

I've always backed Goodwin as he gave me the best period of being a MFC supporter in 35 years.

However, we need a change now. I'd favour a young coach in tune with the new playing styles.

Trade some guns out and load up in the draft and trade in if possible

Then go again in 2028. We have very good youth coming through

I've been very supportive of him too, but I agree things need to change. I just don't see how him leaving now helps the season.

I am very excited about the young players too.

Yes, there were some no brainer delistings. Take Verall, not too bad athletically but massively undersized for a AFL ruckman. To Billing’s, I always find it interesting when a trade is being talked about and supporters in this case from the Saints day, no loss as he can’t hit a target.

Get on the phone to Bevo, at least have the discussion he’s the coach for us, Freo are already into him

Happy for Fremantle to have him.

Listened to Greeny on the way in today being interviewed on 3AW. A tough listen in itself, despite the commendable job he’s done standing in as President.

When asked about Goodwin he replied with the standard rhetoric response “the players absolutely love Goody”.

That’s all great and everything, but im a little sick of hearing it after results like today. Maybe the playing group love Goody because he’s a little too much of a soft touch and lets them get away with a little too much?

I’ve never played at this level but what I knew while playing was the you should “respect” your coach, to the point that you feared them and constantly tried to gain their approval. I can’t say that i ever loved a coach but I did respect a coach enough to run through a brick wall for them.

I know the above is a generational thing, but this team has way too many players expecting to get selected the following week no matter what their performance is like.

Whilst Green is in the seat, Goody is safe unfortunately.

Green is just as part of the problem as Goodwin is.

I've ben a supporter of Goody, and had high expectations for this season with a better preseason and a fitter squad.

But gee, we look really under prepared for the season. That is on the coach and his staff. I feel that if he doesn't fix it quickly after last season there will massive media and supporter pressure for him to go.

I’m a Goodwin believer. Was at the G earlier and we will improve a lot as Pickett, Windsor and McVee come back into the team over the next couple of weeks.

The game plan that Goody’s been building relies on those three creating and connecting.

Where’s the love?

Have faith in Goodwin, he led us to the promised land before, he could again.

😜❤️💙

Goodwin has had a fair go, bring on Choc Williams thanks. Liking a coach is certainly not a reason to persist with him and what the team is doing onfield, again. Fitness and the continual onfield turnovers are still a major issue that top coaches would have addressed with more verve. By any measurement other clubs would have changed it all by now.

Dear God no thanks!

Choco is supposed to be our “skills coach” of which we completely lack and the game has well and truly gone past him.

Choco doesn’t give two Flying ****s . He’s done with coaching and just earning a pay check.

Goodwin's clock is certainly ticking, but the club should be considering hiring a new strength and conditioning coach too. I get that the game is changing, but between the onslaught of injuries and the sharp decline in our contest numbers since 2021, it seems understated how much we miss Burgo.

I think we have had enough time with Selwyn in charge to know that he is average. He was given a Ferrari and has turned it into a Ford Escort with a tranny problem and an oil leak

Staying the obvious here but Burgess was such a huge loss, he was as responsible as anyone for our 2021 season.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
