May likely out for season, same ribs broken twice = extended time out. Might sneak back in against Maggie's last round.  Petty to defence. Either McAdam or Jeffersen to come in.

Draft mid this coming draft. Get a big preseason into Jeffersen and persevere with him next season.

Get a big preseason into Pwtty and Oliver.

Perracca back next season.

Turner is a forward. I am a fan though of how we like to mix it up and keep it fresh and exciting by putting players out of position.

Our proclivity for these zany moves won’t be complete until Clayton plays fullback and we run May on the wing.

Agree with Kornes and that other dill...time to shut down the season get the main players into surgery and give the kids some more exposure.  Get us all ready for next year with as much time as possible.  Who cares what happens now we need to prep for 2025 as best we can.

It starts now!  Let's get Jeffo in and McAdam needs to shape up or ship out.

I'd be very surprised if McAdam plays another game for the club this year, perhaps ever.

Im just waiting for the french cricket results to come up at the olympics

Disco in for May, not too worried about which end he or Petty plays.

The big guns won't take a rest whilst we are still mathematically alive.

Hore for Moniz-Wakefield please, we need some experience and steadiness down back.

No interest in Jeffo this year unless really needed. He still doesn't have the body for AFL footy and won't touch it with no supply at all. Round 1 next year has to be the target.

Well You obviously haven't watched Casey where the delivery is as poor as a schoolyard game where you need 100 kids just to get a wet paper footy from the back of the school to the front without dropping it

JEFFO has delivered well and his 4 on friday was brilliant given dearth of supply

Rivers has played midfield every week since the North game, we’ve got proof on concept that he’s good in there, just needs a bigger tank. I almost wonder if he’d be better off finishing the year at half back to stiffen up the backline or at least rotating between them.

I don’t mind a look at Judd especially later in games but he was an ordinary VFL player in 2022, a back pocket last year and is only now getting chances at half back and as good as he looks in parts of his game I think he floats without the starting point of a defender to play on.

He also has a light frame and he likes to paddle the ball and evade contact. That can work in the midfield but it’s also a recipe for disaster. I don’t see the rush purely because he’s a good ball user down back. For now he should stay back and use those skills more from half back.

Bold point 1. Judd has been accountable for the oppositions best small/medium forward almost every game this year.

Bold point 2. I think this is because we lack polish and quality ball use through the middle. Having a peak at the end of this season to see how his skills translate helps the decision on whether to train him more for a midfield or defence role over summer.

Just want to see some reward for form and in Jefferson's case a taste of senior action, don't see either two making a significant change in our performance.

Laurie in particular must be feeling particularly annoyed given his run form in the twos goes unrewarded. He's been by far and away our best Casey player this year and continually gets overlooked or not given chances to consolidate at senior level. Being dropped after last week's performance was perplexing.

We are battling when we are getting excited about Laurie. We’ve seen enough to suggest it really isn’t very exciting

We have so rarely rewarded blokes who put in consistent efforts at Casey whilst underperforming regulars keep getting games in the seniors.

And when they do get promoted they get dropped after 1 or 2 games. Any wonder they struggle with confidence. There has never been a better time to play these 2 in particular for the last 3 games.

Season 2025 is the priority now, not winning 3 meaningless games.

Wow I knew our season was metaphorically over but I didn’t realize how [censored] the mathematical chances were too. Even if we won all 3 games (haha!), we would need either Carlton or GWS to lose all three of theirs, and even then there’s Hawthorn, Collingwood and Essendon with more points and better % who could slide in ahead. It’s not happening folks.

Surely Jefferson comes in, and Max, Windsor and May get shelved for the year.

Well I will be there supporting my club no matter what. I like it that Max has said the club need to show some pride in the jumper. With so many of our class players injured and shallow depth, I just want to see us contest the ball.

Cut TMac some slack he has been fantastic all year. The umps got in his head Friday and he wasn't the only blackman swamped with the number of entries into our backline. Woewodin and AMW on the back flanks is probaly the most undersized inexperienced backline we have fielded.

For those watching Casey consider that both Laurie and K. Brown lack penetration with their kicks and turn it over. The stats are misleading. I do however wish our forwards tackled like Laurie and Pup and then maybe the ball wouldn't rebound out the foirward line so much.

Given the poor delivery at Casey Jefferson has done a mighty job. He is a strong overhead mark but rarely gets the ball on the lead because of poor disposal upfield. 3 games to go it is his time.

The challenge will be who replaces May? Is Tomlison like for like? If he comes in and don't see Jefferson come in. If Petty goes back then Jeffo comes in.

It won't happen, but...

Positional changes:

  • Jefferson to play. If he struggles, Melksham is waiting to come on as the sub.
  • Fullarton to play. Takes the ruck/fwd role.
  • JVR to play 100% forward, no ruck.
  • McVee into the midfield. Yep, i'm calling for it now! See what he and Rivers can do.
  • Petty to play back. We don't have anyone else who can fill May's shoes.
  • Turner to play back. I really like him as a third forward, but doesn't fit in this lineup. We also might need to prepare for if McDonald retires
  • May out injured
  • Howes omitted

I would love to fit K Brown in too but can't see it happening.

Team:

  • FB: McDonald Petty Bowey
  • HB: Turner Lever AMW
  • C: Langdon Oliver Woewodin
  • HF: Pickett JVR ANB
  • FF: Tholstrup Jefferson Fritsch
  • R: Gawn McVee Rivers
  • IC: Chandler, Sparrow, Viney, Fullarton
  • SUB: Melksham

I'm disappointed that he's such a confidence player after all these years.

You could tell from very early on tonight he was thinking about last week.

I think it might be time I'm afraid...

He's just no good one on one, never has been.

Looks to have hit a wall too.

 Changes?

out. May ( injured)

in.  Option 1 Tomlinson… unlikely given Goody has shown he has little faith in Tomlinson , who presumably will walk at seasons end to explore other options

in. Option 2. Jefferson to debut … Petty to go back to being a key defender 🏆  JVR, Turner & Jefferson forward (Melksham as sub)

in. Option 3. Fullarton might have earned a shot … Petty to go back to being a key defender 🏆  JVR, Turner & Fullarton forward (Melksham as sub)

in Option 4. Hore.  Clearly one of the few players at Casey who is AFL ready and capable.  Showed good form prior to injuries

perhaps option 2 is most likely but have to see if Fullarton might get a chance.

In: Jefferson

Out: May

Daniel Turner to take May's spot. Howes, Tholstrup, AMW, Woewodin to play out the rest of the year alongside Jefferson.

If they can also sneak Kynan Brown for a full game or two I think that would be good for his confidence going into the pre season.

Where do you have Petty if Turner is taking May's position? Personally I'd prefer to see Petty go back and see how a forward line of JVR, Turner and Jeffo works.

After seeing Port last night, I have some concerns about this week.

Assuming no long term I'll affects May's injury is a blessing.  Some were happy to go to at least week one of the finals.  His body is battered and rising 33. He now gets a minimum extra 5 weeks break. Surely Viney gets a break also. Makes no sense to play him with a bung shoulder. Send him for surgery if required.  Same with Clarry and his hand. Rest all veterans.

Viney looks really sore, will probably require surgery on his shoulder

Oliver has 14 pins in his hand, will require surgery

Gawn has his ankle/leg issue

May has his back/ribs issue

Get them all in for surgery/recovery early so that they are fit for the majority of the preseason. And give the AFL minutes to guys in the VFL to see what they have (Laurie, Jefferson, Fullarton, K Brown)

That's sound reasoning that probably won't come to pass.

The other position is they go out and scrag a win so the clown's can say next year that if it wasn't for Maynard , the AFL and the umpires the Dee's would be in the G/F

Moral victory

Very sound reasoning.  Rest them all. Unlikely I know but why not? Results matter little. Don't want blow-outs I guess but so be it. The benefits of an extended break, draft pick, fixture etc far outweigh anything that will happen in the next few weeks. Out- Gawn, May, Oliver, Viney. In : Jefferson, Verrall, Laurie and Hunter for his 200th.

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
