So in that set up JVR isn't playing 2nd ruck, the pinch hitting season ruck/forward is?

I know he's a bit soft, but a Chol type would have been handy...

Yes someone like a Chol

Do you really think Tracc needs to play forward?  We need stars in the midfield.  And with his spleen injury and the way we bomb it into our forward line, it would be the last place he would want to be.

Absolutely, Trac inside F50 is our biggest point of difference.  He should only get occasional runs through the middle.

If he’s worried about further injury then the ground is no place for him but he’s a competitor so I have no concerns re him returning to where he left off

Tracc’s lack of pace and tank around the ground have been issues the last 2 years. Not to mention some of his horrendous turnovers. I don’t think the move forward this year was purely for forward line bite. A good part of it was to remove his weaknesses from the midfield (especially when Oliver and even Gawn were having the same weaknesses).

So it kind of depends what kind of physique he has coming back from injury. If he’s lost muscle and can build his fitness base quickly he might play more mid. The injury could have a silver lining.

But if he struggles to build that base then he was heading towards a forward role anyway.

It’s a scary thought but I think we are looking at almost a complete on ball rebuild over the next few years.

Going to be interesting selection this week. We now know playing finals is out of the question. It would be nice to rest some of our older players that are banged up and needing surgery but if we do that we could get completely slaughtered.
I’d give games to both Jeffo and Pup.
put Petty back.
Id put Pup tagging Rozee. Be a good learning experience for him and Rozee isn’t the biggest so he should be able to stick a tackle on him.

What do you reckon the crowd will be?

Quite possibly home by 3/4 time.

That’s what I said - May out injured, Petty goes back, Jefferson comes in.

Worth considering Jefferson. It's certainly not worth having a compromised May being belted out there. Charlie Dixon would hit those ribs every time. Lever, Petty, TMac back in the Men's Department.

Although its interesting to look at Traccs stats and impact.  He played mostly forward up to 2019 and he was involved in 22-29% of our scores when he was a forward.  Since 2020 when he went midfield, the impact was immediate and he has been involved in 33-37.5% of our scores.  He has been number 1 or 2 for score involvements in the AFL for 4 years. By comparison, Clarry's best year was 2021 with involvement in 28.7% of scores, but he has generally averaged around 26% (dropping to 19% this year).  But this is probably for a different thread.

On topic, I'll be interested to see which Port turn up this week.  Hopefully they are busy drinking their bathwater.

IN Jefferson, Hore, K Brown

Out May, Howes, Melksham

Turner to play key Back

Anyone who follows Maxy on Instagram seen his most recent post? One of the slides is footage of his foot and ankle, and the bruising is hectic. No wonder he's been proppy, the fact he played so well against the Dogs just shows what an absolute warrior this man is, we're so lucky to have him.

Port have always physically targeted Max. He wouldn't like it, but the club should rest him and bring in Verrall. Rough on him but a sore Max is too important to risk copping it

Put Max on ice FFS

i reckon he has 2 more elite seasons in him if handled well

We would be mad to play Gawn. Absolutely bat**** crazy. Port don’t even have an amazing ruckman. Try out Fullarton for all I care.

after what Goody said about Fullerton after Freo game, there is no chance he can play him this year.

He can if he plays him as a forward and let JVR ruck and Disco/Petty go back because May is injured.

I really want to see one of Fullarton or Verrell but if they picked Fullarton and played JVR as our main ruck I'll be so [censored].

I'm actually getting tired of bashing JVR around in the ruck. I know the cupboard is bare but it's actually getting annoying now.

If Fullerton is even a bee's diaphragm of ruckman then we should chuck him in. Couldn't be much worse than Petty.

jvr doesn't appear to be, he seems to relish it

As a no.1 ruckman attending more than 14% of centre bounces? I'm not sure about that.

I think it's taken its toll, looked a bit cooked on Fri night.

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
