Carlton off a 5 day break. Port off a 7 day break. What a joke.
Lucky I hate Carlton. Shame I also hate Port.

Wow. Carlton fans are frothing at the mouth. Score review guy might wanna slip out the backdoor now.

Karma for the "liar on the line" last year against us. It was a goal.

Clearly going through for a goal

How are Carlton second?

Put DeKoning & McKay back in there & they go alright. They've had them right up until now

Port a 6-day break but point still valid.

5-day breaks should only occur when the opposition is also on a 5-day break.

Not that I care about Carlton.

As much as it's fun watching Carlton lose, this is not good for us.

Although it's funny thinking that after Port fans booed Hinkley off the ground, they'll go 4-1 including wins over the Dogs and Carlton.

Make that 0-4

Ken lives on. Good times for everyone who enjoys Port forever doing nothing when it matters.

And Acres and Williams (and Silvagni and Docherty too I suppose).

Port missing Marshall, SPP, Finlayson and Soldo though, so not completely at full strength either.

Always good to see. ( insert blues, pies, essendcum, jeelong) lose st the start of the round

It was a goal. No qualms with it.

The AFL's imbecilic 5 day scheduling compromises another game though. I expected this knowing Port had a 7 day break. I reckon if we meet Port in the finals we will smash them.

We have the Pies next week, must smash them ...

6-day break. They played last Saturday night.

I'm with you on 5-day breaks, as above, but there have been worse. You didn't go anywhere, they had to travel here.

I wouldn't worry about beating Port in a final if you get them. I'd be more worried about slipping out of the top 4 - if Brisbane, Fremantle and GWS all win, you'll be 5th at the end of this round. You should have had 2nd spot sewn up by now, IMO.

Agreed. The Blues are unlikely to win a flag this year unless we nab 2nd place TBH. We should have sown up 2nd spot by now already.

It’s true that Carlton are off a five day break, albeit back-to-back at Marvel. While Port are off a six day break with an interstate trip - toss of the coin for mine.

It shouldn’t take anything away from Port. And it shows impact of a few keys outs for Carlton and their system.

It’s also amazing how much the Port nuffies were off Hinkley only a month ago!!

Port got 3-4 dodgy frees in the last Q

nice to see the Blues get screwed for once

Carlton are not the side the media wished they were

What about Lance Whittall?

The blues were clearly paddling from half way through the third.

One goal in the second half, none in rhe last.

Carlton should play all home games at the MCG. It was actually an MCG tenant before any other club (MFC included) 😉

I know Marvel is much maligned but I really don't mind. Realistically it is too small for most Carlton games these days.

Please explain.

1. Collingwood

2. Geelong

3. Essendon

4. Carlton

This evening I had the absolute pleasure of watching my 4th most hated team lose a game of footy.

Happy days

Terrible result for us.

It’s probably only Essendon that are looking vulnerable to miss the 8, and thus only 1 team we could replace.

(although GWS could be in trouble if we were to beat them)

Port of a 6 day break actually, don't listen to the commentators trying to cover for the blooz.

I don’t see Port winning as a disaster for us, great seeing Carlton fall over, I would describe Port as the SA equivalent of Carlton, mirror image of promise much deliver little.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
