The injured Max Gawn has a considerable lead over the injured reigning champion Christian Petracca in the Demonland Player of the Year Award. Jack Viney, Alex Neal-Bullen & Steven May make up the Top 5. Your votes for the loss against the Dockers. 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.

This could be the first round in the history of the Demonland Player of the Year where nobody registers a vote

Very hard because we really didn't have a player who won their position.  We had some triers so here goes -

6. Van Rooyen - 8 marks, a couple of goals, looked like he put in a decent effort.

5. May - some rubbish stat padding but wasn't disgraced and managed to get the Freo fans riled up so points for that.

4. Petty - was decent around the ground but as long as his backside points to the ground he no ruckman. Liked his contested marking.

3. McVee - he played another solid game.  He's composed under pressure and uses it well.

2. Billings - did more in less than a half than most did in a full game.

1. Langdon - ran a lot, got to position well and was a useful link

Absolutely shocking effort by our midfield - Viney, Oliver, Sparrow, ANB, Rivers, Pickett.  As poor a display as you could see.

Lever - just about a career worst game.

6   McVee. Stood up under fierce heat. Kid is so composed

5   McDonald. The wide vision on TV was damning. On transition the only bloke running with intent was 94 year old TMac

4   JVR. Sadly is the second best ruck at the club. Competed against the odds & showed a bit forward

3   Petty. Sadly is the third best ruck at the club. Competed against the odds & showed a bit around the ground

2   May. Had a crack, showed some passion & comittment

1   Billings. Also damning. Did more in a half than most of our mids contributed for the game

Votes? For that performance?

Maybe 1 to Langdon for trying to teach Fritsch that the game involves running, chasing and tackling.

Yeah I was hoping no-one would vote out of protest.

6 - Jacob van Rooyen tried his guts out

5 - Steven May despite some blues

4 - Harrison Petty good around the ground plus he re-signed to ‘27

3 - Ed Langdon our running man

2 - Judd McVee great awareness

1 - Trent Rivers just edged out Billings

Our midfield badly mauled by Freo and penalised by umps as well, our much vaunted backline were badly beaten by Freo’s as well, junior football stuff, who was guarding the goal square and Jake Lever you were so out of touch today what the hell, outmarked, outplayed jumping at shadows.

Casting votes today is very similar to my Year 6 maths exam ie. aImost impossible!!
All of our boys lowered their colours, in a performance I seriously want to forget, but here goes:

6.   May  -  under immense pressure all game given the amount of ball coming in, and the complete absence of our hallmark ‘team defence’.  Battled manfully, and won or halved some contests.
5.  JvR  -  worked hard, whether ruck or forward.  Commendable effort against huge odds.
4.   Petty  -  clearly not a ruckman, but battled hard all game, and contested marking around the ground (especially in the second half), was a worthy effort.
3.   Langdon  -  ran all day (again!), and should be commended for his work-rate.
2.   McVee  -  solid in the face of insurmountable odds.  Showed his usual good composure when he had the ball.
1.    Rivers  -  little influence as a mid, but improved considerably when he went to HB in the second half.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
