How can our highly educated and incredibly experienced club execs seem to lack such skills to the point that members will now struggle to believe anything that comes out of their mouths.

Because they’re all corporates who have had years of talking the company line. Blah, Blah, Blah. Listening to Gary Pert is like listening to the guy from Santos telling us we’re not getting screwed on gas royalties. It’s all just words and spin, I doubt many of them have any idea of the damage they do.

I visit a friend up there from time to time. Played teven valley last time. What a little wonderland that course is.

here's a snip, which seems at odds with the headline

While Petracca is overseas, Oliver has been urged by friends to front up for the event even as he attempts to complete a remarkable move to Geelong in the AFL trade period which starts Monday

What a surprise. The headlines are inflammatory [censored], but all the average nuffies see and take it as truth.

Has anyone asked the question why Clayton was at the Brownlow? If there really was a strict set of guidelines to be met this year then why were we more than happy to let him go?

I’m wondering whether he was even meant to be there? Was he on the MFC table? Lots of photos from the club of Gawn, Viney, Lever & May but none of Clayton.

Anyone there able to shed any light on whether Oliver was on the MFC table?

Media been trying to destabilize the club for 2 years now. Scum.

We’re in agreement. But don’t ever call me scum again😎. I know truth is a defence…but still

Went and watched the NSW qualifying there. Playing the pro am there next year. We’re nearby so may join there or Byron.

If we pay even a cent for Oliver to play elsewhere I'll be furious

Cats will only pay full amount if draft cost is lower, or will only pay higher draft cost if Dees kick in some salary relief (duh).

Cats biding their time, our public position on a trade hasn't changed, and we may still keep Oliver. He wants to leave but a trade will be hard.

Any trade complicated by Smith trade

When it's all said and done, I can't see how the club comes out of this without looking like a steaming pile! They either:

a) lose the support of a lot of members by shipping Clarry to Geelong for sod all or,

b) lose supporters/credibility by retaining him and setting themselves up as a cultural mire target for years to come.

On top of this, the media is applying maximum pressure to feed their narrative/create new headlines.

Hard to take

Surely it's the MFC who want him gone and Oliver is now saying he wants out

"The Cats – even as they explore the feasibility of a trade and have established themselves as the preferred destination for Oliver if he leaves – are mindful of the reality that the midfielder, a four-time best and fairest, can only be recruited if the Demons are willing to strike a deal and that Melbourne can take the same position they ultimately did over Christian Petracca in holding him, despite his interest in a move."

Keen to hear @goodwindees thoughts in all of this.

Hi Daz & Brendan. I can’t say too much except that right now, I think a deal gets done.
When I announced this a month ago, I didn’t think it was possible because I couldn’t see Dees getting fair value from Cats.
They’ll certainly have their work cut out taking on Bailey, Claz & Stengle.
The stories I could tell re Bailey.

Thanks @goodwindees - no worries if you can’t say but does that mean you now think we can get fair value from the Cats?

The Age says that on his current contract Oliver would be easily the highest-paid player at Geelong. So that’s ahead of Jeremy Cameron and Patrick Dangerfield.  It says Geelong has rarely overpaid for even the top-end players they have had. Seems like they’re far better money and player managers than we are.

If true, both Pert and Goodwin going into 2025 together is untenable.

And again, if true, the board must remove the CEO as soon as possible. Whether or not such actions are justified, going rogue is inexcusable.

Are we sure Pert isn’t an ‘inside man’ still paying his allegiances to the Pies?

Does this mean we will get fair value now? Or that we’ve given up on that idea and willing to sell for way less than Clarry is worth?

Problem really lies in the fact that they have no decent draft capital anyway. Which means our only option if dealing with them is to take the option of a full salary dump. Not ideal.

In the NBA a high quality player like this would net you the teams next 4 or 5 1st round draft picks so that the weaker teams have some leverage against the stronger ones. Stronger teams don't care so much about their draft capital as they attract free agents easily to keep topping up...weaker teams can build a cache of high end draft picks and have a crack at developing a young core that can make a run at it.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
