Not saying it doesn't warrant five weeks.

But certainly stating how unjust it was that Maynard got zilch.

Seriously wth?

AFL is a poor joke at times.

The rules were changed last year. How hard is it? The AFL were the ones who challenged Maynard getting off in the first place.

What a poor move this would be for Saints, and for Houston. If he wanted to avoid a Tarranto situation at the Dees, I'm not sure how Saints are a better option

Most likely staying at Port.

Either he was only interested in the MFC until we self imploded or he was never interested in coming home in the first place.

In any case I'm glad he hasn't chosen another club due to our incompetence, as he's a two time All Australian and clearly one of the best defenders in the league. CLEARLY.

Lastly, I don't think posters have given Houston his dues. If a two time All Australian with 5 years left is (now hypothetically) interested in coming to your club, you embrace it and get a deal done.

it was only a little over a decade that port adelaide was an absolute basketcase

they regularly got less than 15k to their games at footy park

their board and footy dept was a cluster of disaster

boak and gray 'stuck fat' and were, along with daid koch as president and keith thomas as ceo, core components of turning that club around to being a well-run and settled organisation

they ignored the media hubbub about hinkley's contract, backed in their 'kulcha' and processes to sort themselves out, and have been consistently there-or-thereabouts for the better part of the last decade

yes, they haven't tasted ultimate success, but 2024 could well be the year that changes

i don't think, as an example. the dees should be looking to the likes of the filth or the yankees as a example of where we aspire to be, but instead towards the likes of the pear

stay calm, ignore the noise, carry on with the business of footy

That is footy speak for “ no club could get the deal done”.

Maybe it will be the same for CP5.

Good, less chance of a first round pick(s) going out the door.

Exactly. Think it will be a blessing in disguise in the long run. Would of been nice if Houston was linked to us 1-2 seasons ago.

Excellent news. I wasn't keen on getting Houston from the start.

We need to allow Jason Taylor to use our draft capital, rather than Tim Lamb blowing it on players that don't move the needle for us.

So it took weeks if not months for Houston to commit to his club and saying he was going nowhere.  OMG! Does his silence in that period mean his club was in crisis and culture in tatters? Is his integrity questioned? Such hypocrisy. Petracca cops it from all quarters. Houston is a hero.

Right, can we please get the Ollie Wines thread really going now?

'Rumoured to be keen for the opportunity to play alongside his best mate'

and

'While Port have a deep midfield of stars, Melbourne could do with another powerful body in the middle as they look to regain the clearance dominance that was a hallmark of their premiership and to nurture a variety of young potential stars in less physically brutal roles.'

and

'Would allow for efficient coverage of Melbourne's loss of Neal-Bullen, who's desire to return to South Australia would also be the foundation of a clear win-win deal for both players and both clubs'.

Guessing this ship has well and truly sailed despite Petracca re-affirming his commitment. Probably a good thing now with pick 5 in our hands instead of what we were hoping to be a pick in the teens.

This is tiresome. The approach that these guys take is to say, "He wants to leave, but that does not imply he will go." He and the club are then labelled as liars. Morris used the same playbook with Trac, and Kane Cornes used it against Kossie last year. They always hedge their bets.

He was actually very interested in us until his management was told by us and Port. They would not be letting him go unless the offer was to good to refuse and we wouldn’t be meeting Ports asking price of two first rounders. When there is little likelihood of a trade being done, players change their tune

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

    TRAINING: Wednesday 11th December 2024

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

A couple of intrepid Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock for the midweek Preseason Training Session to bring you the following observations. Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
