For the first time in a long time I’m not looking at the impact of different results on the ladder. I’m not looking at what we need to do, or who we need to beat to finish top 4, or even in the 8. I am just looking forward to watching a side with emerging players and a new appetite for the contest on a match by match basis. I must say, it’s been liberating.

If you said to me at the start of the year that in round 18 we’d be taking on a top 4 side without Gawn, Petracca and Brayshaw, I’d say we’d be no chance. I’m not so sure now. This side, led by some of its young stars is showing a real intent and passion for the battle. I expect that warriors like Viney and Oliver and Lever will bounce back this week and give it everything against a despised enemy.

This week is a free hit. Nobody is tipping us in the media. We’re expected to fade away with these injuries and a tough draw. Well I say write these Demons off at your own peril. If we don’t quite get up, then it’s another brick in the wall for our 2025 assault.

Yes, we have a challenge ahead this week but we can make the most of it - and we could take home the bickies.

put Kentfeild in to run at the Bombers rucks for a quarter or until half time. hit em and bruise em, wear them out

Then bring on fresh Fullarton or Verrall to jump over them and run them around.

Or same plan with Fullarton and Verral  half each as hard as possible for the half, come off spent.

yes play kenty .He may do a big carl for us

Toxic positivity on it's full display ladies and gents.

Hey @WalkingCivilWar, please quote me on a post I made 'bagging' a player?

Bet you can't.

Maybe spend less time trying to policing this joint and more time accepting that not every supporter needs to be a 'fan-girl' of everything MFC eh?

Maybe you can tell the same to the poster who keeps saying that I am bagging players?

This place is wild.

I've posted here before, for years so please save the 'arrived here 5 seconds ago' as if there's some kind of poster hierarchy around here.

Hard to reconcile these two points ...

In a weird way the pressure value has been released from the introduction of youth into our team.

The external pressures on our club are no longer at the levels it has previously been.

We have nothing to lose and everything to gain this Saturday night, all the expectation and pressure is all on the peptides.

This is a new phenomenon for them, something they are not familiar with, they have often been the hunters this year.

Welcome to the Demon's lair where you are now the hunted.

Please put me on ignore for you and everyone else!

A genuine question.

WCW's posts appear to really trigger and/or upset you.

Why don't you put HER on ignore.?

Ths might have already been mentioned and I haven't gone back through the thread.

Would it not have been tactically smart to have Max Gawn down as 'test' for this week and keeping the extent of the injury hush hush? Just to cause a bit of havoc with Essendon's game planning.

They probably have to release injury info once official scans come in probably. But just a thought.

Think it goes against AFL rules.... but I'm sure there are clubs that have done it

Predicted some rain on Saturday.

Actually don't mind this, would slow Essendons ball movement down a notch at least.

Any word from Goody on Petty?

1 week with a hammy sounds risky especially for him

I still can’t get over my hatred of Essendon.

The thuggery of Wallis, Hardwick and Long on Green and Simmonds in the 2000 Grand Final still really burns. I hope we play like demons on Saturday!

Mentioned in his presser that Petty had to get through the main session yesterday. Pretty much all that was said.

I trust you don’t mind me correcting your post.
I was at that match, damn disgraceful. I remember a doctor saying at the time that Mr Long came within millimeters of killing Simmonds!

Closer to 55 than 65 I reckon. The chance of rain will keep many away. Also, parents don’t seem to bring little kids to a Saturday night match even though there’s no school the following day. It’s too late a finish.

But I reckon those feral fans of theirs will come in filthy droves - regardless of the weather - even though it’s our home game.

Absolutely. Any parent bringing young kids to a cold, wet, night game need to queue up with the presidential candidates to have their cognitive assessment test immediately.

They murdered us in the wet last season.

Petty in for Max. Only change.

No ruck… interesting call

I’m really angry, apparently Petty & JVR will be sharing the rock duties

WTF is Goodwin doing, Petty is useless in the ruck & our forward line functioned well without him & JVR really growing as a key forward.

Whats the point of having Fullerton & Verrell for that matter if they’re not getting a game when Max is out!!!!

Seriously what the hell

Turner is taller than JvR - could he get a run as ruck?

I don’t think I could watch Mr Glass go in the ruck on Saturday.

“Interesting” selection to say the least…perhaps someone smarter than me can explain why going in with no ruckman is a good idea!?

I totally agree with the selection given the resources available to us. However,  it makes a mockery of the recruitment of Fullarton.  Showed very little in his time at Brisbane and his highlights package was underwhelming.  His form at VFL has been uninspiring.  Yes, we need to add to the midfield but a back up ruckman is number one priority in the off season. Fullarton ain't it!!

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.
