I thought today was fine. Good win, nice sunny fay for a change.

Really got nothing else to say, a good day at the footy.ย

My favourite part of the game was when Max came in and dealt with Reid after he thought he could simply bully Kolt without repercussions.

Loved seeing our skip fly the flag, as much as seeing Max get angry. He is an even more imposing figure when throwing his weight around.

Especially funny to see Reid pull Max onto himself when on the ground. Only one way that's gonna go with a guy as big as Max

Had a good game last week.

I think we just have to accept that with his current conditioning, we're going to get a down performance every few weeks.

Just nice to see us bouncing back a bit in recent times. Really exciting to see some of young kids doing well too.

Whatever happens in regards to finals, I hope we can maintain this and give it a crack in the run home. At the very least can be a confidence booster leading into next season.

Terrific to see so much young talent coming through. Rivers as a prime mover in the midfield, Windsor, JVR, McVee, Tholstrup, AMW and Turner. ย And then it's easy to forget that Kozzie only just turned 23! ย In a frustrating season these players represent every reason to remain optimistic.ย

We are starting to look good again and have our energy and pressure game back.

Great bunch of talented kids and forward line is taking shape and looks better just with Melkys presence.

JVR is the one.

Anything can happen from here , but geez Iโ€™d love to have Trac back.

Why cant we finish a game like the Saints just did against the ladder leader

ย

Our connection inside 50 was on for the second week in a row and our forwards filled their boots accordingly.ย
Like that the old elite (Jack, Clarry, Max) werenโ€™t in best as we need to spread load and our kids really stepped up. Those potting Clarry are goldfish as he was great last week, and rendered Yeo ineffective.ย
How exciting are our kids!?! Koltโ€™s two quick goals, JVR are real presence, add Petty back in and continue to deliver inside 50 at speed and angles and we are well in the hunt this yearโ€ฆย
As an optimist and Don hater, letโ€™s belt them next Saturday night, and maybe more on here will start to believe.ย
Good win.ย

Was also very pleased with Lebโ€™s return to form, given he had been tapering recently (not unexpected given heโ€™s a first year player).

Dont know what to make of Boweyโ€™s form

Yep. This, and the grin on Mayโ€™s face straight after as heโ€™s patting him on the back. Priceless.

JVR moved today, and it served him well to find space, act as a lone target or otherwise, remain ahead of his chasing opponent, using his hands in unison to claim the ball. He still needs to work on his approach with set shots but he will get there - a real talent.

Very pleased with that performance. You can grumble on about West Coast being as 'easy'ย  an opponent as it gets, but for me a team that boasts the likes of Oscar Allen, Waterman, Darling, Cripps, Liam Ryan and Darling in attack, Harley Reid, Tim Kelly and Yeo in the middle, and McGovern and Barrass down back shouldn't be underestimated.

Winning on the back of youngsters is always exciting. Windsor was magnificent, JVR completely dominant and Tholstrup is just sooooo antagonistic but has the talent and heart to back it up. McVee would get double the hype if he was picked earlier. We've made some horrendous decisions in trade week since the flag, but JT keeps batting his draft picks out of the park. Meanwhile Rivers' briliant form is probably the only positive to take from Trac's injury and Kosi finally landed a speccie!ย

Won at selection! Ballsy as it gets to play Melksham off no prep but I thought the Milkshake was magnificent and we are a way better side with him in it. Goody pulled the trigger and it worked.ย

I personally think this season is all set up for a Bradbury flag from someone. I don't think it will be us, but why can't it be us?

Blind Freddie knew that ... Melksham added so much ... a blind man could see ... not just Goodie.

Nah. He was given the job of putting Yeo (yo?) on a short string.ย

21 marks inside 50 which is 2 more than the last 2 games combined.ย
ย

Forward connection was beautiful and we converted with 17.10.

ย

Unequivocally a great improvement.

Love that Koz finally landed a speccie in a game where he (correctly) decided to stay down a handful of times....picked his moment to fly

I still see him as a defender long term, especially after May retires in the next 2-3 years but he's made a great fist of it as a forward thus far this season.ย

He (Turner) has great hands on most occasions, and seems to read the play effectively. He can kick, and importantly, he can footpass well - both short and longer distances - again, reading the play (and providing excellent 'body spoils') for the best team advantage. It is obvious that he is learning the game but producing leaps and bounds in form as he so does. I'd offer an opinion on his possible future as a key backman with these attributes. Many great backmen have learned their craft as forwards, and vice versa. The important consideration for a soon-to-be key position player is that he is prepared to 'learn' the game he needs to play and matching/developing skills to achieve such needs. Looks like Turner is on the arterial road to the next stage, to me. Well played, lad.

Andy even mentioned the โ€˜Fโ€™ word โ€” despite us being outside the 8 on % ๐Ÿคฃ

What an inspiring days of footy to put-paid to any modicum of doubt about whether or not we have depth, solid youth etc! Today we learned just how much high-end talent the MFC has at their disposal, despite many of them still very much being raw, unrefined & just really discovering their capabilities themselves. Rivers though, is doing what I hoped heโ€™d do from R1 (but we never given the opportunity), heโ€™s using his creativity, flair & natural instincts to really help give our game another COG in its wheel-of-weapons!!! ย Shame we let JJ go, but had we known Gus was Maxy-Gawn we obviously wouldnโ€™t have.

Anyone notice the running in waves in first half today? ๐Ÿค” the fwd handball game all-of-sudden looking by design and downright dirty and demonically dangerous? Funny hey.. I wonder why we could cover the ground and move in waves today? But havenโ€™t been able to in last 6-8wks?!?! I canโ€™t really think why.. but itโ€™s almost like itโ€™s as though โ€” by design โ€” weโ€™ve prepared our team to be at its peak game-day and burst running condition to be kinda now through to September.. Huh.. that canโ€™t be right though so it must of just been a โ€˜vibeโ€™ throughout the team or something, cus all-of-a-sudden we could run atop the Gโ€™ and actually burst from stoppage, transition in waves, get out the back and beat oppo in transition both on offence and defence.. WEIRD as hey.. Gee letโ€™s hope somehow it continues then! And that the sudden, definitive & blatantly ambiguous heavy-legs and inability to run atop the ground weโ€™ve had since round 7-8 doesnโ€™t return, such is its importunate yet totally random appearance, across a very clear period of months in middle of the year.. canโ€™t even contemplate why that mightโ€™ve happened or contributed to some less than ideal results when coupled with more than a couple of key personal challenges, inexorably made more troublesome by poor conversion, which also has absolutely nothing at ALL to do with endurance or fitness of course..ย

Ok, sarcasm now abated โ€” NOW we can see the true Red & Blue-print in action, as itโ€™s actually MEANT to look! Just like we did LW in Q2.. and then more so next week likely for 2-3 quarters maybe even 3-4 if weโ€™re treated to a position whereby our list has now fully recovered and loaded to be ready to attack the final rounds of the year with total abandon, confidence and most of all, the belief that theyโ€™ll run harder and be able to play with intensity longer than their opponents, rather than 2022-23 when by R18 we were basically having to put sides away completely in opening half or suffer an eery and familiar position whereby our โ€˜dominanceโ€™ becomes a distant memory by the final siren and somehow weโ€™ve seen our lead hijacked by a team that had clearly been absorbing the blows, knowing that by 13-18min mark of 3rd, weโ€™d be utterly COOKED!!!

Goody, Selwyn and his team have done their absolute best to ameliorate those challenges and are attempting to turn the tables! Itโ€™s a tight comp, and could still very much backfire โ€” but what I do know for sure is.. repeat the same behaviour, and youโ€™ll be forever doomed to the same outcome. This, again, is why I like where we are, despite the risks and fact our biggest weapon is gone (Trac), cus it means we at least have a CHANCE to avoid the same outcome!

Letโ€™s see how Andy & George turn this into a doomsday scenario, or try to redefine the observations into a reproving consort of poo-pooing ๐Ÿค‘ despite @Binman sitting there on their screens with a subtle but ๐Ÿ’ฏ vehement grin on his face ๐Ÿ˜‚

A nice win, some great signs and most of all, a win whereby the mids where reduced to being โ€˜stoppage onlyโ€™ participants, not only helping them conserve valuable juice but also help them buy-in to a more transition-based game that can be scaled up-down at will, and will ultimately ensure come Final #1 (all going well of course), weโ€™re not just ready, but primed to launch an all-out contested, crash-bash onslaught from the depths of Lucifers deepest, darkest allusions!ย

Can I just say how much I live the 1:10 games. It was perfect sitting there today and I'm home by 5.

I know they aren't ideal for marketing & prime time but it's a good slot.

Also the kids stuff out the front looked great. The kids were having a ball. Even when I went out at half time they were still doing the activitiesย

I love them as well, but on sunny day like today I really struggle to see the other side of the ground from my seat.ย

It wasn't off the ball they were just about to contest for a mark, Melk said it was a head clash.

ย

Our pressure in the 1st qtr was over 200. Eagles were 190+ Yet our ball movement was outstanding and set up a good win. That was a highlight for me.

Loved our young guys leading the way. Kolt, Riv, JVR, Kozzie, Windsor, AMW were terrific

Salem looked like the Salem of old Fritsch even laid a couple of tackles that stuck!

Melk adds a huge amount of football nous and sharpness to our fwd set up. Some of his laser passes were incredible. And his leaping showed that his knees are all good.

I have a watching brief on May. Can't seem to bend down and his decision making at times is well off his best. I hope its temporary. The fact we had no one on the goal line when Ryan I think it was kicked a long range banana that barely made it through was particularly infuriating.

And Jack Viney, as much as I love him, has a bad habit of bombing the ball long into our fwd line (and ignoring short hit up kicks in the process) that were mostly interceptedย

However it was one of the more stress free days at the foot for me in the end.More of that please.

Was a fair way away I thought was high but light and unintentional contact, McGovern was the โ€˜milkmanโ€™ here.

  • PREVIEW: Brisbane

And just like that, weโ€™re Narrm again. Even though the annual AFL Sir Doug Nicholls Round which commemorates the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture to our game has been a welcome addition to our calendar for ten years, more lately it has been a portent of tough times ahead for we beleaguered Narrm supporters. Ever since the club broke through for its historic 2021 premiership, this has become a troubling time of the year for the club. For example, it all began when Melbourne rebranded itself as Narrm across the two rounds of the Sir Doug Nicholls Round to become the first club to adopt an Indigenous club name especially for the occasion. It won its first outing under the brand against lowly North Melbourne to go to 10 wins and no losses but not without a struggle or a major injury toย  star winger Ed Langdon who broke his ribs and missed several weeks. In the following week, still as Narrm, the teamโ€™s 17 game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Dockers. That came along with more injuries, a plague that remained with them for the remainder of the season until, beset by injuries, the Dees were eliminated from the finals in straight sets. It was even worse last year, when Narrm inexplicably lowered its colours in Perth to the Waalit Marawar Eagles. Oh, the shame of it all! At least this year, if there is a corner to turn around, it has to be in the direction of something better. To that end, I produced a special pre-game chant in the local Narrm language - โ€œnam mi:wi winnamun katjil prolin ambi ngamar thamelin ambโ€ which roughly translated is โ€œevery heart beats true for the red and the blue.โ€ >y belief is that if all of the Narrm faithful recite it long enough, then it might prove to be the only way to beat the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Sunday. The Lions are coming off a disappointing draw at Marvel Stadium against a North Melbourne team that lacks the ability and know how to win games (except when playing Melbourne). Brisbane are, however, a different kettle of fish at home and have very few positional weaknesses. They are a midfield powerhouse, strong in defence and have plenty of forward options, particularly their small and medium sized players, to kick a winning score this week after the sting of last weekโ€™s below par performance.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeatย  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscrayโ€™s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last weekโ€™s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.
