Brayshaw (veteran mid/wing) Peatling, Zak Jones, Setterfield, Nathan O’Driscoll

JJ (defensive mid) Alex Davies, Sam Berry, Will Brodie, Finn Macrae, Parfitt, Phillips

ANB (defensive forward) - Owies, Wicks, Matt Guelfi

BBB - Tom Lynch! Membrey?

Hibberd (back pocket) - Sean Lemmens, Ethan Hughes

We’ve got to do some serious shopping at the discount bargain bin this year and try to beef up our depth.

Obviously not many good players out of contract at this time of year so it won’t be great options but we need to grab up to 5 guys just to replace the experience we’ve lost. And if we can do it without burning too many picks we can get quality through the draft and inject them in to the side when they’re ready.

Zak Jones as a trade target... now I've seen it all

Vomit

I realise how low the bar is set but we’ve picked up Hunter and Billings the last two years it really can’t get any worse. For all his faults Zak might actually put his head over the ball. But yeah, he’s very low down an already ordinary list.

Tbf both Hunter and Billings are more accomplished than Jones.

But I understand your point that we will be needing to find some diamonds in the rough to improve.

I'd take those in bold, assuming we could get them for a bag of potato chips.

Hunter was, but we didn’t see what was plain for all to see that he was spent, hence why the Dogs were pushing him out to begin with.

Billings was always a myth.

So that's where you learn your lessons and don't follow it up by picking the Zak Jones of the world.

He's an absolute potato and a [censored] bloke to go with as well.

Pass.

Zak Jones actually had a pretty good finish to the season, with an AFL Player Rating of 10.6 in the last 7 games and he is out of contract. We might have won against Brisbane, GWS and Port had he been playing for us those nights.

I’d like to see evidence of his character is anything but fine, obviously that would be a factor.

Our list is now in a different stage desperately needing to replace Gus, Nibbler, JJ (never replaced) as well as Hunter and effectively (if not entirely) Billings too. You can’t replace that kind of experience - and what should be 10+ list changes - just with kids. Of even with valuable players traded for picks.

I’d have easily a dozen list changes which means picking up guys for nothing. I’d first focus on younger players keen for a second chance and state leaguers but there’s probably going to be at least 1 more dodgy veteran pick up.

Begg’s been boned, way better footballer than Fullerton and the Shackenator, cost nothing, let’s get him.

Matt Owies suspended for a week and will miss their finals campaign. Still unsigned. 27 goals last year, 33 this year. Worth a look?

Could give us more scope for Kozi, Tholstrup, Sparrow to rotate into the middle more often.

We might have lost by more due to how often he kicks it to the opposition

Sam Edmund

Adam Tomlinson

“Set to leave Melbourne as an unrestricted free agent. Wants more opportunity. Just wants to play. Is St Kilda the home as his third club?”

Yes, would directly replace ANB. Well loved by Blues supporters. Hard worker, known goal kicker. 3rd highest goal scorer behind McKay/Curnow.

With Schache and Farris-White delisted, BBB retired and Tomlinson likely to depart, our depth on the talls department is taking a serious hit this off season.

Hopefully Jefferson and Adams come on next season.

I see a lot of players being thrown up from rival clubs, but none linked with us. We have that early 2013 pong about us.
Interesting a lot of players linked to Adelaide clubs.

If Trac demands a trade to the Blues as rumoured and the relationship is broken beyond repair, then we should get Tom DeKoning and a top 10 pick in return. Their problem on how to get us the top 10 pick, but it's not negotiable for a top 5 player in the league still well under contract.

THE HEAT IS ON by Meggs

FNQ will be hot and sultry this Thursday night when the mighty Demons take on the highflying Hawks at up there Cazalys Stadium in Cairns.   The Demons once again rebrand for Indigenous Round as ‘Narrm’, the Woi Wurrung name for Melbourne in the language of the traditional owners.   Narrm has surged back up the ladder and sits just outside the eight on percentage with 5 wins. Our opponents Hawthorn sit second with 8 wins and have been become really offensive.

    AWESOME FOURSOME by Meggs

The rejuvenated Demons out tussled the Tigers by 13 points to make it four wins on the trot on Saturday which means that the slight possibility of a finals appearance remains alive in 2024. This is despite the AFLW handicapping the Demons against their peers yet again (more later). Lots to celebrate as it was Kids Day at Casey Fields and both teams ran onto the ground modelling their Pride jumpers.   Kate Hore won the toss and kicked to the Clyde end. Thankfully, the notorious Casey

    THE TRADING CHRONICLES 03

Part 3: Happier Days by Whispering Jack It would be fair to say that when the Melbourne Football Club entered the free agency and trade period earlier this month, its reputation was flagging, if not in tatters. The club was taking a battering in the media and social media over a number of issues, some real and others imaginary and even fabricated, relating to the running of the club, team performance and its culture, a build up that’s been taking place for more than twelve months.
