Wade Derksen should be a Dee in 2026

Kadean Coleman is in the VFL and could be a target since his younger bro relocated to Melbourne (Williamstown)

Ash Johnson worth a look, Pies have plenty in front of him

Mal Rosas at the Suns would be gettable, was told he could look elsewhere in 2025 but stayed

I don't mean to be rude of facetious, but why would we target players that are failing to make an appearance at AFL level?

The probability of them excelling and displacing someone in our bottom 6 is incredibly small let alone having a chance to improve our best 22. The money it would take to dislodge them would be a waste. Now if its to improve our VFL side, well then thats another matter, but i fail to see the point of targeting the top echelon of VFL players.

Again not to be rude and others have also called out similar ideas, but these types of trades will do nothing. They are akin to the Schache, Culley, Henderson, Sharp, Fullarton trades and all know how that has worked out.

I think it would be partly because we will struggle to attract talent that is in demand due to how we have gone the last few seasons on and off field.

Secondly just because someone can't get a game in one side doesn't mean they can't be an asset in another. They're not superstars but Toby Bedford wasn't a regular when GWS picked him up from Melbourne (we wanted to keep him and were blindsided) and has become a much better player. Even Jordon at Sydney - they didn't win the flag but he was in their grand final team in a very deep midfield after being on the outer at Melbourne.

Outside Coleman, they're all battlers who can't get a game or past it.

What's the story with Keidean Coleman? I know he's been injured. Is he in VFL due to returning from injury or has he fallen out of favor? He's a game changer, but doubt he's available.

Tim Lamb loves a dud.

I think it’s just match fitness. I’d put him in ice u til next year. Some players take time and some don’t ever get back to what they were before the ACL. Kiddy was a similar player to NAS and the Lions will never let him go. He’ll be back in action 2026 no doubt.

Derkson sounds likely now out of contract. Behind Taylor, Buckley, Himmelberg and Aleer (can play just needs opportunity)
Ash Johnson a hard no.
Coleman would be a pipe dream is only in VFL as he recovers from injury. I suggest he will be in side before season finsihes.
Rosas should be on our radar. Speed, pressure, wins inside ball and kicks goals. Change will be good.
Whilst we are at Suns we should target Alex Davies if we move on Oliver. Showed on weekend that he has inside bull winning abilities and also has class (30 possessions at 83% efficiency and 10 tackles).

I would also look to target Max Hall from StKilda who is out of contract and may be able to be stolen with a better contract. Hard and clean and has really elevated his game recently with midfield minutes.

I hope/assume we have some bigger plays up our sleeves but I suggest realistically they will be hard for us to get ahead of others.

Just like clubs picked off some of our extended list in our stronger period there is nothing wrong with doing the same to others and doesnt mean they dont add value to your best 23. Look at Jordon, Bedford, Harmes and Wagner as current examples.

Coleman is just injury prone after that ACL - just reported that he is out for 6-8 with a quad injury.

Clayton Oliver, Bayley Fritsch & Jake Lever (Melbourne)

“Similarly, significant change is coming at Melbourne on and off the field.

“Clayton Oliver’s huge salary works against him now if he wants to leave, which I believe he still does. There’s Bayley Fritsch and even Jake Lever there too. They’re two players to keep an eye on.”

We should keep Oliver as a sub from now on, hopefully he will accept less money elsewhere next year. Trade targets should be zero, why should we be responsible for wrecking someone's career?

Up and coming players should leave before it is too late, fear that nobody will be interested in them. Brad Green along with the other clowns need to pack there bags.

North have interest in Lever.

Where do I sign?

Been a grand servant of this club but his body is absolutely cooked and a cannot remember the last time he played a standout game.

you can understand why - they're crying out for leadership and experience, particularly defensively

They’re the one club that I figured might have a look, with the Viney connection and a need for experience in defence.

He suits them perfectly.

We’ll take Dursma off their hands

Lever is exactly the kind of player we should be moving on and would be fantastic for North.

No way we're going to be moving on one of Goody's favourites though.

awesome, petty and turner is the future of the back 6. get this done

I am surprised anyone would have interest in Lever personally. He may have leadership qualities but the current game style just exposes him one on one defensively and has injury issues

I wouldn’t be surprised if another club tried to lure Gawn out though.

Gawn? 2 x first rounders

Not sure if he is exactly a trade target...but Campbell Chesser from the West Coast Eagles is out of contract at the end of this season.

Worth a punt?

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.

It's Game Day and there are only 5 games to go. Can the Demons find some consistency and form as they stagger towards the finish line of another uninspiring season?
