As I recall we have to include a chunk of Brayshaw's contract in our salary cap and the percentage increases in the later years.

Then there's Joel Smith's payments ?

Makes it just that more difficult going forward given all the other back ended deals we probably have on our books (Petracca, Oliver? Gawn May? just to mention a few)

You wonder if we have almost pencilled in a down period for say 2026 -2029. Makes sense in a way

Smith's contract ended this year.

js29 is ooc at the end of 2024 and will, presumably, not be offered another contract

None !!

Tim Membrey has kicked as many goals/game as Bailey Fritsch. I'm suprised nobody wants him. One of the best pair of hands in the league, great contested mark and forward craft. JVR and MJ could do well to learn from him.

With Tomlinson gone, one injury to our KPD stocks and Petty gets thrown back. Then we need a decent marking forward again. Or 9 goal/year Petty might just end up in the VFL for a year before TMAC retires,  if Membrey is playing better as a key forward.

Also he's apparently a pretty good clubman with good professional standards.  Still has a few years left to give. We chased a 34 year old Tom Hawkins, why not a 30 year old TM for 3 years.

It's fraught with danger of course, but sometimes these risks pay off.

What are peoples thoughts on Sam Day from GC.

He has been desisted by GC so he is free! free in draft capital and cheap on a 1 year deal.  Just think it’s a good back up option.

Probably should have just kept BBB on the list if we’re going for SD.

Poor bugger is rooted and would just be a list clogger with us and [censored] up the development of the young talls.

I Actually though he played a lot in the VFL this year, but looked it up and he hasn't so you may be right.

Thanks for posting the write up from ESPN @binman. Jasper has taken over from Knightmare at ESPN, and I reckon I prefer his insight to KM’s.

Don’t get me wrong - he was a star. But just couldn’t get a decent run at it, mainly through shear bad luck as he was apparently very good on the track.

He’s barely played in 4 years so you’d be mad to sign him up but I’d be open to have him down for a few weeks of preseason training just to check if there’s anything left.

Not sure he ever had the skills or smarts to make it but the hip injury ruined any chance of him reaching his potential. Really nasty one.

Feels like we’re trying to be tight asses and trade in players from the $2 shop.

We need to put on the wide brimmed white hat, wide lapels, bold colours, fur, put on the swagger, and flash that cash.

We may not hook a big fish this year , but if Freo, Suns, Bris or Port keep shooting themselves in the foot, we need to be ready with the big offer.

I’m talking Young, Rayner, Anderson, Andrew, Georgiades etc. Not the poor relations.

Don’t worry about contracts. They don’t mean anything. 2 low picks will loosen up most players.

Pretty sure he did. Watching him just before that injury, he reminded me of Schwartz before the knee. Super coordinated, mobile, left or right.
But just how the [censored] do you break your pelvis when landing from a mark?
Good effort to play again at all after that. But he’ll probably know all about it in 20 - 30 years.

Maybe Hinkley and Fagan as assistants?

Dunno mate. He’s not a tall fwd as such. doesn’t get a regular game these days with the saints but has been a good trier

I would guess he has double the amount of seasons that Fritsch has had

pass from me

And I'd also like the Green Goblin or whatever his name was to start posting in this thread again.

Just for a bit if fun.

Just bumping this for discussion

Question… would Parfitt be a possible replacement for ANB as a half forward? 🤔🤔 presume Cats prefer others and he might see better opportunities with MFC. Query is why is he only playing half the year and in/out senior team. Due diligence obviously!!! Future 3rd round pick 🤨

CAT TO LEAVE... BUT NEW HOME UNCERTAIN

Geelong onballer Brandan Parfitt is expected to leave the Cattery at season’s end, but whether he locates a new home isn’t certain.

The 26-year-old has played 130 games since debuting in 2017 and was a part of Geelong’s 2022 premiership after being called up late for an injured Max Holmes, and he is eligible for unrestricted free agency this year.

Parfitt has managed just nine senior games in each of the past two seasons and reportedly doesn’t have a contract offer on the tablefrom the Cats.

However, while a departure seems imminent, a destination for Parfitt is less clear.

“He looked for a new home,” Herald Sun journalist Jon Ralph told Fox Footy’s Midweek Tackleon Tuesday night, before reeling off a couple of potential landing spots.

“Melbourne wants to bring in experienced midfielders, West Coast is open to free agents like him and Jack Graham.

Interesting that we will be targeting experienced midfielders in this up and coming trade period.

Parfitt and Will Brodie certainly fit that description.

Membrey will almost certainly divide the forum into two categories:

a) A handy and sometimes effective forward that could come cheap

b) An overrated recycled hack that we have too many of anyway.

100 times better than Schache.
A proven marking forward and goal kicker.
Good injury cover and role player.
If he costs us less than nothing, I’m all for it.

Smith's contract ended this year.

Even if it didn't, surely if a player gets themselves banned their contract is voided.

Membrey would be a good filler if available, but I’m happy to wait and see if two meter Peter becomes available.

The fellow from the mid season draft and Fullerton are appearing as more Taylor busts.

Brodie is contracted for 2 more seasons and would be on good money. I only see it working if Freo pay some of his whack.

The other options include Setterfield, Hewett, Shiel, Zac Jones, Davies, Peatling, Perkins, and Couch x2.

Membrey is an interesting player

Clarry is taller than him would you believe, but he still manages to play fairly tall

He has had his Mental Health battles (well documented) so if he is feeling mentally fresh and up for a new challenge, he could be worth a look but I am not sure he would be getting a game regularly. I would prefer we concentrate on our young fwds

Yes to all and I'd add to that an extremely hard working forward who gets up and down.

Agree, if he doesn't cost much then go for it.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
