With Ashcroft and the GC academy kid, that pick will be 7.

It's still pick 5 of available talent as those two aren't up for grabs for any other clubs.

Agree, is there anything to suggest either are anything more than later picks at this stage?

Ah-Mu's performances at APS level along with what he's flashed in his few CTL games put him in that top 20ish range. Not unrealistic for him to push further up if his development spikes next year.

Edit: Ok I misunderstood, you mean, we might be back here again next year? I hope the club is not thinking that way and backs itself to contend, its as simple as that.

Well I was responding to the poster that said trading only a future pick for Houston, would be a disaster.

But my thoughts on this years pick: I'd rather we kept pick 5/6 and only offered a future pick, if Houston doesn't get done then so be it.

A month ago I was open trading both first round picks if it was 9-10, But also if we somehow got Ports 1st round 14-18 pick back. Now that it's 5/6, and people have said the first 5 kids are all as good as each other, then we have to keep it and only offer a future 1st rounder and back ourselves to be contending next year.

Yep sorry was pointing out that we could possibly be in the same position again next year.
Yeah all good I get and understand why people are keen to get Houston he is a very good player. I would rather us focus on some more top end talent in the draft but if a player was to leave freeing up more picks I would be more open to trying to get him.

Are you alluding to picks from a potential Petracca trade? Or another player like Salem or Fritsch?

Edit: Forgot about Port asking for Pickett, ANB, Clarry drama too. Geez,

what a year.

Yes. If we got two picks plus a handy player for Petracca I would look at going for Houston. But that’s just my two cents worth. But if Petracca stays I won’t be surprised if we trade someone else to rejuvenate the list.

Let's just see shall we? Houston cooled because we refused to pay two first rounders.

I'd be staggered if we don't take our 2024 first rounder to the draft.

This seems completely contrary to what has been reported.

I wouldn't be completely opposed to this so long as we don't pay more than a 3rd rounder and we get a good report from the Richmond doctor.

Likelihood is his body is cooked so I'd be incredibly wary. $1.5mil is a huge price to absorb but that would come off immediately at the end of 2025 then we could make high price offers again to say a Finn Callaghan who's out of contract.

Lynch JvR, Turner forward. Petty returns to defence alongside May and Lever.

Can Lynchs body stand up to some relief ruckwork or does that still fall on JvR?

Considering Saints might get a compo pick before us for Battle, we should swap out first pick with Adelaide for pick 4 as apart of neal-bullen trade.

The Crows will say your username if asked in any way about pick 4 being involved in Nibbler trade

Assuming it’s even true that he’s on 1.5M

I reckon the Tigers happily pay 600 just to get 900 freed up. More if they get a pick.

We convert the rest in to a 2 year deal at 550 a year with bonuses then front load it to 800/300.

I don’t love it. But if…we can fix our mids and half forwards with 3-4 fit, quick, aggressive running options then it could be a worthy gamble.

But step 1 (2, 3, 4) is to fix the running players before having a lash with a key forward who’s played 8 games in 2 years.

Would be an equitable trade. They still have a top 10 pick and get an elite pressure forward.

I reckon the top 8 has enough quality to not worry about giving up assets to push up 2-3 spots from 6 or 7.

Agree. Too much talk about key forwards, not enough about the midfield.

I’d rather spend whatever we’d have to pay Lynch on a mid, assuming we can find one.

If Saints win we will be 1 spot behind the crows so absolutely no point

Trac for TDK and 1st rd pick.

Oliver for SDK and a pick.

Use our 1st pick on best mid available.

Carltons 1st plus other Picks for another mid?

TDK isn’t a forward, it would be a different version of the Gawn/Grundy problem.

SDK is nice enough but key backs aren’t our problem. Not really sure how good he is either.

B or C grade mids and later draft pick kids aren’t a way to fix our midfield.

If Oliver and Tracc both get traded we may as well pack it all in and go full rebuild.

TDK is a more a ruck/forward which is what we need

No, we need a forward/ruck. Someone who primarily contributes up forward. Because Max isn’t sharing.

And/or just a back up ruck in the VFL.

If Saints win we are 5th last. Brisbane F/S means we basically got pick 6.

Unless your getting in an elite player with 5-6 years of his prime ahead of him, you take pick 6 to the draft.

What do we realistically think we get for ANB?

is it something we can throw at Essendon for Wright? Gws for Peating?

would love both

I don't get the love for Peter Wright.

Gold Coast let him go because of his uncompetitive nature and I believe that Essendon will do the same.

Both clubs ended up dropping him to their reserves team for long periods which is telling.

We've seen this movie before with Sam Weideman and Josh Schache.

he's got the same strength as the king bros - he's tall

second efforts are few and far between and doesn't bring enough competitiveness to the contest

Not sure where to put this.

Somewhere I read that Richardson said 'we need to get older not younger.'

That doesn't compute:  we have the 3rd oldest list and the 2nd most experienced list.  And, we won the premiership with one of the youngest and least experienced lists.

He (and TL) doesn't have a good track record of player trades since taking over as GM, FD 3 years ago so his comment makes me nervous.  Very nervous!

I hope Richardson doesn't turn us into a 'dad's army'!

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
