At least he owned it. But we need serious action.

Agree he owned it which was good to hear but why doesn’t he already know the ‘why’?

The references to digging deep to understand the why has me worried he n the coaching group really don’t know why …

37-68 inside 50’s

We had the same conversion rate of inside 50’s. About 45%.

38-39 tackles

If you get smashed around the ball and take less tackles… where’s the pressure? Pressure is a mindset and willing intensity thing. It’s one thing individual players can control.

The thing that has changed from previous years is our mids aren’t only not dominating, they’re getting obliterated. Our game depends on them getting the job done and if they don’t fire, no Dees. Not like we played well anywhere on the ground today. But the midfield dominance has papered over cracks as we rely so heavily on it.

That is entirely possible, because the players we have replaced over the last 2 years are totally inferior and it has now come to the surface

I did, and feel like I have been scammed. I believed that I was coming to watch two teams play football, but instead only one turned up.

Yeah that sucks big time.

Thank god we're loading and have a generational list.

The club should demote itself to the Amateur’s 5 grade after that performance 😳😎.

FFS

There is something seriously wrong at the club when you get a performance like that. This isn't a squad deplete of talent like the Bailey/Neeld era, to lose by almost triple figures to a mid-table side after being made to look foolish only 2 weeks ago by a bottom 4 side is alarming. I thought the club had turned the corner in 2021 (not just winning the flag but the competitive nature of the team) but it's back to mediocrity which is an utter shame because the supporters deserve more.

Why haven't we managed to attract one good foot soldier from another club? List management have had a lot of praise, but have we managed to add anyone of use since Langdon? Bbb for flag year? We've lost plenty....

We've attracted a bunch of good foot soldiers - that's half the problem.

I agree with other posters that the loss could be season defining. Freo can be just a flakey as us and I though we could still turn it around in the second half if we wrestled back the initiative but the boys just gave up. I turned off midway through the 3rd.

One of them was during 2001 playing them in a rematch GF that year and I was at the game but my seat was in the Botanic Gardens.

Guess I was really in the nosebleeds..

Maybe a dream from a past life L when we were playing under Checker many moons ago as the fuchsias!

One paced midfield and lack of kicking and handball skills pure and simple.

It’s worth sliding down a spot if it means Essendon lose. Just my humble and bitter opinion.

I wouldn’t support that. A lot of our plans were built around Salem and Brayshaw having more midfield time, and Tracc being a forward. That plan didn’t even make it to round one.

With Clayton miles off the player he was, for reasons I think are easy for us all to understand, a lot then rests on Viney. Jack’s been clearly injured for 6 weeks, but we can’t really afford him to take the time off his shoulder obviously needs.

I’ve felt for almost all this season that our game plan now clearly relies on Gawn and/or Tracc playing a blinder. It’s left up to too few.

I don’t think that’s necessarily Simon’s fault. When you are up the top it’s hard to get access to players who make you better, so you have to rely on internal growth. Rivers, Sparrow, Spargo, Petty and Chandler haven’t taken the next step. A coach can only do so much. At a certain point that age group of players have to do it for themselves.

WTF are you doing on 'Land with analysis of this quality @The heart beats true?

The whole team are very out of sorts.  Whatever about skills the team have always fronted up but recently we've been way off. Everyone is playing badly at the same time. Is there something going on in the camp WCW?

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
