Responding from afar (have only seen the stats) but six tackles from McAdam suggests he was making a defensive contribution.

Don't think his fitness is quite where it needs to be yet, but definitely a role to persist with a little longer

That's more like it !!

We were a bit scrappy early but  a burst of class in the 3rd quarter did the business . After that, apart from a couple of disappointing junk time goals, we smashed them.

PS . You will never see a better ruckman than Max Gawn !

PPS. That new player, Thommo I think his name is, did ok too.

Max is the best of all time, I'd reckon. Tomlinson and Tom McD both played well today - we must credit their performances with Lever currently restricted.

Tommo great inclusion. Max just huge as always. Petty and McAdam can go in the bin.

Agree. Hunter is a bit of a waste, compared to Woey who needs the game to hone his offerings.

Watching the replay, tackling pressure 1000% better than last week

Back in the top 4

A game I don't need to see again

Great to see van rooyen snag some & tomlinson and McDonald were great.

If we could play like we did in the 3rd quarter then we will go alright

Disappointed we gave up those late goals

Petty 2 kicks 1 hand ball and 1 mark. Should be at Casey next week.

He can join McAdam.

How old is Max jnr?

He looks pretty big already.

I will check it out next year at Casey training - he should do well there, like his Dad.

Enjoyed the awe in Dangerfield’s voice when talking about Gawn. Marshall is meant to be one of the elite rucks going around and Max treated him with disdain.

It shouldn’t get lost that we are watching an all time great every week.

He is approaching GOAT. Without a question .

Not even in the best 50 players to play the game IMHO.

Ross Lyon must be the biggest conman since Arthur Daley was around

Truly Astounding that he is able to walk into top jobs….

We're so lucky to have Max. I lived overseas for 20 years and never saw Dean Cox play. The only other ruckman I'd rate alongside him is Simon Madden who was a far better forward.

Lingers to half forward is a genius move. His work rate smashes most half backs. Having Windsor and Hunter/Billings taking the wings enables this.

Thought he and Max were our best.

TMac and Tomlinson excellent too.

Loving ANB in the midfield, and more CBAs for Koz exciting too.

We reverted to a forward half territory game. Hard to know if St Kilda let us play that way or whether it was us dictating terms. We seemed to be fine with playing a higher defensive set up today.

Be interesting to see which way we go next week.

Rumours of COVID through the camp last week would make a lot of sense.

Reckon we should play as Naarm every week 😁

Really only our second win under that name, we've lost to some [censored] sides, it's a cursed, name

I'll take the win, but I need medication to get over the first 2.5 quarters of snooze fest.

When we take risks and change the angle of play to come through the corridor, we really are dangerous and exciting. This was the best thing about the 3rd and 4th quarters.

Great to see Tomlinson play so well.

The gut run and repeated efforts of Langdon, ANB and Rivers looked top quality today.

I was unconvinced about Billings and I remain unconvinced about McAdam.

Hated those 3 last quarter goals.

Best game from Oliver Viney and Trac as a trio in some time.

Max Gawn - simply the best.

Best part of today's game was the corridor play, really tried to move the ball quickly and the skills were up to the task for the most part

A pity to miss a few opportunities and leak a few late goals, as we were a 10 goal better side for most of the game

yep his account runs dry and he accepts the job. doesn’t give a rats

Ratten performed far better

Hope all the Hanrahan’s moaning pre game were happy with that performance

Are you kidding didn’t you see them on the game day thread, when Saints flooded the back half and just nullified the game in the second quarter. They went quiet for most of the second half but were back posting late with us giving up late goals when the game was done.  Ffs you just can’t help some of these posters

I wouldn't read too much into this game.  St Kilda's pressure and effort was non existent.

I reading 4 points and 5 percent. That's it.

That's all it will be until it isn't.

Do you mean we'll get some more if it keeps up?

Dees beat Saints on a Sunday afternoon.  Ho hum game to be fair.  Dees did enough and won it through 30-45 minutes of footy.
Third quarter burst was the only time that I saw the glimpse of what we can do.
Last 10 minutes of Second qtr and Last qtr were poor.

Those wanting Petty out for Jefferson

who takes the gorilla defender?

JVR Jeffo is too young and green.

I wonder if Lever could play smaller and we could keep Tommlinson in? we looked really good in the air

What a terrible thing to say about a Demon premiership player.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front.  They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
