so glad I went and took the kids. That Fritta goal, OMG, the noise, the crowd was like a soccer game, loved every second. and always great to beat Geelong, my friends are very quiet today

Normally like the way Chris Scott analyses a game in a presser but he straight up just said they were off tonight and none of their players would be happy with their individual performances etcโ€ฆย

No acknowledgment of our pressure or movement which stifled them.ย

This is in stark contrast to how Goodie conducts himself in a loss even if the whole team is crook or walking wounded he gives his kudos straight away to the opposition and says the better team won on the night.ย

Just an observation that irked me. Suck eggs Scott, suck eggs Geelong.ย

I just texted this to a mate who is a big cats fan:

'Scott, who I had warmed to, lost me with his sour, sore loser, press conference - gave us no credit.

I suspect there is no love lost between goody and Scott.'

I was really glad I went to the game too. It was a terrific atmosphere, and I thought the Melbourne faithful were absolutely fantastic.ย

We clearly hate Geelong.

How does the hit to the head of Gawn not become a free kick? There are four umpires out there and they still get it wrong.

That was clearly a football action. Explain that to anyone from another country.

I liked how they kept chanting "boring football, boring" or something to that effect.

As they were chanting i was thinking "i'll take this insane defensive effort and possession game anytime if it results in us beating your lot you knuckleheads!"

And then we won.ย  A long trip back to sleepy hollow for those nincompoops.

I didn't hear any of that where we were in the MCC. We just had nuffy (mostly Melbourne) supporters who were getting up and down the whole time getting beers. They don't come up after a goal, they come back whenever they want. It's a joke.

But in regards to boring football, we've basically adopted their game, but with more bang and crash, and with perhaps an even greater emphasis on defence.

Tom Stewart had little impact - did Turner play a defensive role on him? Tom Stewart having a mediocre game is a coaching triumph in itself.ย

Assume all the various protocols/checks were followed, but it actually looked like he was still a bit concussed to me.

Just not quite with it the entire game.

Slept soundly and feeling great thanks to our magnificent win. I'll be whistling as i walk the dog this morning.

Mea culpa coming up. Thought Petty would have been better served having a spell at Casey to regain confidence. He was excellent last night. Marked everything and was a very important cog for us.ย

Great game Harry. welcome back.

Same but also thought we should've brought him in via Casey initially.ย  He's found some match fitness and getting up the ground to more contests.

Solid hit out.ย  Just needs to get the kicking leg going for the conversions and hitting up more targets for a few less turnovers.

Itโ€™s going to be hard to beat for the GOTY I reckon. That degree of difficulty on that was off the charts.ย

I can't warm to him because he is often a sore loser, just like Hardwick. I do like his analysis on the game though, but needs to work on his humility.ย  That's why I love Goody so much, respectful whether they win or lose.

Fritta and I have something in common - I am very good at dribbling

Adam Tomlinson will find himself wearing a Norf Melbourne jumper next season, helping out their young defence should we not re-sign him (sentences I'd never thought I'd type)ย

yep, my hatred for Geelong is beyond what it is for any other team.ย

I dont go to all games but last night and the Brisbane game last year were amazing to see live

Hey Scottย

You were well and truly beaten by a much better team.

Have some humility.

Oh yes you were out coached as well.

I thought our midfield did well with the centre clearances but in the first half we're not that imposing.

In the second Tracca shook off his tagger, Viney tackled like a machine and Clarry was a first class ball magnet.

But the idea that our defence occurs in a vacuum in the modern game is ridiculous. If the mids don't put on sufficient post pressure (watch the replay, we were superb all game), Geelong forwards would get it lace out and our defenders would have little chance.

Just watched the replay on Fox and had a great laugh in the last quarter. Down the city end there were Melbourne supporters wearing pink caps and with the last kick for goal by Cameron the guys were standing and with both arms were directing him to kick to the left AND HE DID. Well done guys.ย  Very funny to watch

scott was pretty upbeat in the press conference and with good reason - they were missing arguably two their starting midfielders and their key forwards couldn't split the middle

he talked his team up not down, which is exactly what goodwin does when we have a narrow loss too

ultimately, these wins are vital in terms of positioning for september; we should both be aiming for a top 4 finish

gonna be a tight one in 2024

Iโ€™m calling it.

That was pathetic from Geelong supporters last night. Only 10-15k of them turned up. Top of the table, havenโ€™t lost a game all year, big game against a top 4 team at the home of football.

They couldnโ€™t be bothered to show up.

They must have been "Off" also

Horrible analysis.ย

No youโ€™re right the whole team was great all night.

Kicking was awesome and the skills were elite.

Get off the couch and get some air.

Sorry, but that's a complete load of bollocks.

5-2 not good enough when 2 of those games were against Port and crows at Adelaide oval, the latter off a five day break?

And one was against the swans at the scg, which is worth 2 goals to them given how well they play there (particularly defensively) and in slippery conditions?ย

I mean on the same ground yesterday, in much the same conditions, the much vaunted orange tsunami turned into a wavelet and they got smashed.

So 5-2 with 3 difficult interstate games and a horrendous schedule is not good enough?

Is derm in the room with you right now?

Or perhaps you are derm and your blind hatred of the dees has led you to infiltrate a dees footy forum?

Can I ask you derm your view of the giants given they have already lost to two contenders - not good enough?

Derm how about the blues @ 5-2 before the round - not good enough?

And now 5-3 - gone?

Port were also 5-2 before the round- not good enough?

Now 5 -3 - gone?

What about the cats derm?

They have only beaten ONE team in the 8 - the blues (who just got beaten by the pies for the same reason the cats beat them - they are suspect defensively this season).

The cat's other 6 wins are against teams outside the 8, including the winless roos and hapless hawks.ย

Cats not good enough?

One more question derm.

Do fox not pay you enough to get your plastic surgery done by a reputable surgeon?

Or as Dixon suggested post game you are cheap, and you get your work done in thailand to save some money and hang out in your speedos in ko samui?

Wow what a burst, take deep breaths and have a lay down. And well said

Just a baby in the context of the position he is asked to play and has averaged over a goal per match so far this year not playing as a permanent forwardย

I really think youโ€™re being a bit hard on him - he has in spades what many have not offered before him - courage and aggression which are fantastic qualities that are very important if youโ€™re going to succeed at this levelย

He will only get better with more games and building his footy IQ

Hawkins hasnโ€™t kicked a goal in 4 weeks playing as a stay at home FF - so JVR is doing just fineย

ย

I'm with you @Sydeeย and as @Binmans PAย has stated, the context is that JVR has had to cut his teeth in a decimated forward line which has constantly had changed in personnel and very ordinary delivery.

Goody alluded to it in his presser, our forward line is getting better delivery now and just as important, some stability with our personnel and structure.

They're finding their rhythm and JVR is too.

ย

How far for d Max kick that goal from.

I reckon he was about 3 m from the centre square edge.

Ball went though about 4 m high mark.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
