They did this with Easton Wood. They never called him ‘Wood,’ It was always ‘Easton Wood.’

generally players with 3 or 4 letter surnames

Dow to Wood to Dale

Sounds somehow better to add the first name when you have a short surname

The media’s focus this week should shift from Bevo to Lyon.

Sign Bevo up for another 4 years!

Super coach

I might pop over to the Saints bigfooty post match thread (shortly). Nothing like a bit of schadenfreude.

Did anyone else read the 'highlights' of Justice Lee's judgment in the Lehrmann defamation case? I recommend it. I especially loved the line "After escaping the lion's den, Mr Lehrmann made the mistake of going back for his hat." Comic gold.

Is anyone else still actually watching the match?

Saints weren’t ‘off’ either, they’ve just been mauled.

I thought the H’uns front page was apt.

R’pist and a loser.

Sensationalist media has a place after all.

Bulldogs with +76 marks.  Has to be some sort of record?

I particularly liked...

"Well at least we’ve kept Ugle-Hagen goalless."

The Dees podcast all over the impact of the five day break. Saints were really lethargic reinforces why Dee’s were so flat. Five day break really warp the competition.

If Brisbane is going to claim Fitzroy’s flags they can sit top of this table with 933.

True.

What’s interesting is 3-letter surnames seem to be the ones that commentators don’t feel the need to include their first names. Eg: Cox, Ash, Yeo, Day.

Unrelated: it’s gonna be a looooong six days. 😁

@binman I was convinced that the saints had a bye next week after watching this performance.

The game was a complete snorefest.

Saints are pretenders, a pretty B grade list overall. Dogs had the heat on all week, were gonna come out firing, glad I backed them (and didn't make the mistake of flipping last minute like I did last week when I initially backed the Bombers 🤬)

Dogs aren't going anywhere either mind you, two really vanilla teams who put on a snooze fest. Compromising the fixture with 5 day breaks so we can put on games like this no one wants to watch?

Hell of a celebration by Jones.

Which jones was that.  There are two out there but only one Williams.

Commentator just called Bailey Williams.

There's only one player on the ground with that surname.

Thankfully Bailey Smith isn't playing.

Media last fortnight - Wilson and Cornes, 'Bevo's lost the players'. & 'Lyon the super coach'

Dogs, 'Hold my Beer'.

Have always thought these two snipers play the man and not the ball.

Really glad the Dogs pulled together. I have no great love of the team, but always felt the coach was a stand up guy and cops a few low blows.

And Sam Darcy is going to give Jackson a run for his money in the hybrid ruck stakes, amazingly well composed young man.

Yep the Saints had 3 games in 11 days while we had 3 in 13.

For Melbourne supporters solely or mostly blaming our recent schedule for our loss to Brisbane, then I think it’s more than fair that those same supporters absolutely excuse St Kilda’s performance last night.

Was the second 5 day break for the Saints this season. They couldn’t keep up with the Dogs after only 5 minutes.
Rowan Marshall was absolutely gassed, only had 11 possessions and he’s been averaging 20.

Agree. The whole attack on Bevo was way over the top. On statistics alone,  Bevo has been the the most successful Dogs coach in 140 years of football. That team needs to be given a kick up the proverbial and Bevo has done that with Daniel, McCrae, Dale and others. He is an innovator but also a players coach. Cornes, Wilson and Barrett all did hatchet jobs this week. Shameful. He's a good Melbourne man and best mates with Jason Taylor so he's alright with me!

Western Bulldogs: Naughton, Treloar, Dale, Weightman, Macrae, Johannisen

No Bont??? I think umps give him 3 Brownlow votes

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
