I'm not sure what politics has to do with anything on a football forum, however in relation to this football matter I'm choosing to be a realist about the situation we're in as a club currently while hoping we may be able to do better.

Personally I'm not convinced a midfield of a constantly sore Viney, a box of chocolates in Oliver and an apparent Lazarus in Petracca takes us any higher than we managed to stumble to this year. Macrae would improve that mix in my view. Perhaps by not a huge amount, but it helps.

I would much prefer to discuss potential improvements and options than merely attack others, it is a place to discuss football after all.

The point being, I'd rather do nothing than recruits list cloggers.

No. No. No. We drafted three list cloggers last year, and we still have Hunter. No more

My one immediate thought is that he is a greater version of sparrow.

Is Sparrow going to grow into the player he can be?

Are we going to be chasing another flag for the next 3 years? Or should we look to youth.

I'm not sure Sparrow has ever shown he is a 30 touch mid

God no, imagine forking out good money for a 30 year old player we simply don’t need. We need pace and skill.

Agree - the cost would be huge.

If he were cheap then maybe.

He’s got over 25 possessions once in 95 games and over 6 clearances also once.

Warner had 7 clearances in the last quarter on the weekend.

I always liked him but we just cannot develop players like the best clubs can.

Too many drinks tonight Moe, we've gotten more out of Sparrow than what a lot of clubs would, he just isn't very good

He's a well developed bust which is why he's managed to play so many games

Not what we need, too slow. Be better at a club like St Kilda who need a distributor to feed their runners

I thought he was more of an outside player getting the ball from libba and trelor

Urrrrrgghhhhhhh yeah.

The thing that immediately jumps to mind when I think about Sparrow is he’ll do something about 5 minutes into the second quarter of a game and I’ll think ‘huh, oh yeah, sparrow is playing’

He just doesn’t seem to impact or get into games regularly?

Slow, one paced player.

The game is increasingly prioritising speed and spread, and that is where we need to focus our drafting and trading.

A pass for mine.

Perfect fit for us then. I don't need to read the rest of this thread now.

Toxic culture at Bulldogs.  Smith. Macrae. Must be a toxic culture.

Macrae is like Caleb Daniel.  3 years ago. Yes. They had energy and pace.  Not anymore.

Unfortunately for Macrae, he has lost pace.  He gets exposed defensively.   Ok kick but more of a chip or up and under kick.  He’s on big $$$ too.  I’m not a fan of another Hunter, Billings salary cap to assist other clubs.

It’s a BIG NO !!!!

Could Dees join Macrae race?

Jay Clark believes he would be perfect for us and would takeover the Angus Brayshaw role.

He’s nothing like Gus.

I honestly think North would be foolish not to go after him. They need experience and leadership. He’s a decent player who has gotten a lot out of himself. Could protect some of their younger mids and set standards.

I'm 60 years old and 5'11 tall. I declare that I'm ready to take over from Max when he's done.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
