Tracca, the kid hasn’t fully developed physically or emotionally. Scientific fact.

I am not saying baby Jeffo, but at least be respectful. It’s not hard really!

Im not sure who was disrespectful to him or who you directed the comment to. I just wouldnt say that calling him trash or soft or just not having what it takes to succeed in the afl as bullying. But if it was worse than this then I guess ppl shouldnt go OTT

We’re offering our opinion on a player who was selected with a high pick. It’s hardly earth shattering. I doubt he’d be offended and if he is then that says a lot about his chances.

Verrall is developing nicely. Good young kid who was a handy pickup in the 2022 rookie draft.  Sestan also picked as a rookie (2022) looks capable and I’d like to see him work on his aerobic side.  Definitely got a footy brain.

Ironically the 1st round 2022 pick Matt Jefferson struggled and looks a fair way off.  It’s always a gamble to grab a young skinny key forward as a 1st round pick.  Dees have to be patient but need to see more intensity imv.

Don't know whether it was televised or not SNS. At the ground because I wanted to watch Jefferson specifically.

My observations re his performance:

  • Was certainly not helped by very slow ball movement into the 50 and mis-directed kicks. It was brought up pre game that our midfield was weakened and that played out in terms of delivery.
  • Could have, as someone has just suggested, got on his bike a little more. However, he did this a couple of times and leads/positioning wasn't honoured.
  • There was only one contested mark opportunity where I thought he could have been more full chested.
  • Hoping he was near ready but not yet. Feel like, initially, he'd be suited to a bigger ground.

Not much love for Tom Fullarton, 21 touches, 4 marks, 7 hit outs and kicked 2.4 racked up 102 dream points and named in Casey’s Best but hasn’t garnered a mention? Will Verral is starting to show the class of football that his former coaches said that he was capable of, he is an exciting prospect for the future. As it stands we need Tom and Will to both keep improving and hopefully force their way into the side or be ready when needed. Sounds like Disco came back with a bang, Ollie stepped up along with Bill, Pup and Lachie Hunter. A great win considering we were 26 points down at one stage.

I said in the pre season will verral was a spud and showed me nothing in the 3 games i saw live, even the first game this year i was so disappointed.

But yesterday he was fantastic and the week be fore he was building into this game. I am hoping he can take this confidence and run with it.

Disco and Sestan were fantastic, Hunters 2nd half was exceptional.

6 shots at goal too. 2 goals 4 points. It could have been a blinder of a  game if he kicked straight.

Thanks KC, Demonland, Nascent, DD and all posters I didn’t get to watch the game so enjoyed the psts particularly the fight back and judging from stats our Casey boys really put in big time. Great result for the club.

Jefferson needs to get on his bike as a forward. Lead up to the wings, run his opponent off his feet. Tell Schache to stay in the goalsquare. He needs to get his hands on the ball a lot more. Playing him back isn’t the answer, confidence is. Even the way he holds himself screams doubt. That’s his issue from where I sit. I’m not sure he believes he belongs or is willing to fight for it. Until that changes nothing else will.
Turner on the other hand continues to show he has what it takes. Maybe as a forward??

This seems to be the development stage he is in currently: gaining enough fitness to be able to put those KMs in as a key forward.

Until now he has played deep forward because he doesn't have the aerobic capacity to get all the way up the ground etc. I'm not sure it's a lack of effort/desire issue.

From what I've seen Jefferson seems to have good attributes for a key forward: marking, kicking, and a knack for finding himself in goal scoring positions. I don't think anyone would be arguing he doesn't have a very high ceilings if he can realise his potential. We knew that he was a development project when we drafted him.

Which is why I think a bit of patience around physical development, both strength and aerobic capacity, is probably required before any true assessment can be made regarding his likelihood of making it.

He is in his second year (realistically has completed one full preseason), and is contracted until the end of 2026, meaning he has another 2 preseasons of development before his contract runs out.

Absolutely.

Strength development for some people takes until mid/late 20s. I'm sure we've all known some pretty weedy 20 something's who go to the gym regularly but just don't seem to put on mass.

I don't think he is going to be a bullocking strength based KPF in the early part of his career at least. I personally think the aerobic capacity allowing him to run up the wing and then double back deep etc. it means

His numbers haven't been that bad either. He's kicked 25.20 in 20 games (including a couple down back I think). In 8 of those games he has registered 3 or more scoring shots.

Posters may recall his ‘23 season was virtually a write-off. Remember Dr Laura describing young Will’s pelvic injury? As being unusual in AFL and more often encountered in athletics. Many young blokes struggle to get their bodies AFL ready. Eg. Young Laurie’s first season in ‘21 was also negatively impacted by injury.

Last year he (Vearrall) missed all of preseason and most of the first half so was coming off zero base.

It was always this year that he would start to show and he is.

Lets hope he keeps up the improvement.

There is a spot in the AFL team for him if he does.

...and, I like the idea of trialing Disco forward.

We nearly pulled the trigger on that move in finals last year when the cupboard was bare.

Now is the time to build our options.

Played a decent game end of the home and away against the Swans in Sydney. Surprisingly dropped for the finals with Tmac’’s experience being preferred. Taylor Whitford may be on to something.

He'd struggle to even play senior footy there and would end up in the reserves.. he's genuinely that bad.

Either way, someone connected needs to ask the question.

Honestly a waste of carbon emissions moving 110kg down to Frankston to play 20 minutes at full forward. For the sake of the planet get the kid in local footy.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
