GAMEDAY: Rd 02 vs Hawthorn

Recommended Posts

It's Game Day and after mixed results in the first two weeks of the season the Demons have the opportunity to capitalise on their good form last week when they take on the Hawks at the MCG today.

A regulation win coming up.

The following three weeks probably decides if we can finish top 4

The Petty experiment is beyond me but I believe Goodwin is taking a punt on an easy win tomorrow

it's not an experiment imo

he's in our best team and he'll get up to speed faster in the afl than he will at casey

It will be very interesting how he's slotted back in today.

After last week's performance, I'm feeling more confident.

But it's early in the season. If last year told us anything, it is was a very close comp and teams must be at their best.

I don't believe in regulation wins so much but I think we have this.

Expecting and hoping for a win. I will take any win and the 4 points.

I would prefer an easy win as it will make my breakfast all the more palatable.

Dees with another 40 point win. Go Dees!

What did you think about Tonlinson being dropped?

Petty doesn't need to kick a bag but the structure is important to us.

I think / hope it’s more than that.

Hawthorn have a very depleted backline of talls (Jiath, Blanck, Grainger-Barrass, McCabe all injured). It’s just kicker Sicily of any talent (sorry Frost).

The Petty inclusion might be to take further height advantage.

Let’s just hope our just forward 50 entries are good and on target.

In a welcome development, the radar says no rain today and humidity at comfortable levels

There still appears to be a bit of smugness around the St Kilda area and isolated showers of denial near Collingwood.

Fritschy won't have 2 poor games in a row. He'll kick 3 or 4.

Petty to find his way into the game and hopefully kick a couple. We need this man fit if we're going to get our hands on the holy grail this year. fingers and toes crossed no lingering problems.

Clarry will get the Maginnis tag by the sounds of it. Interesting to see how he deals with that

Hawks always pose problems and make it difficult but if we're switched on i can't see them beating us.

This game is played at the same family friendly timeslot each season, so my kids have seen us beat the Hawks regularly. It's helping foster a healthy disdain in them for the Hawks. An important life lesson i reckon.

See you all at the G.

Sadly I will be an armchair supporter today.

A major point of interest will be the handling of Petty and BBB.

Unless lubrication ports have been installed in BBB' s knees ( the bees knees) we know he won't get through an entire season.

We all hope Petty is fully recovered , but, we've all seen those type of injuries become recurring problems. And then there is Tmac !

Maybe today will provide some insights into how these three are going to be managed.

Today's result? The Hawks aren't mugs but if we are serious a comfortable 35 point win is on the cards!

As a replacement home game do we get in for free, and we're are our supporters sitting along members wing? Thanks

You Should get in with your membership, but will be relegated to about level 4, while three quarters of level 1 is empty.  The exclusive nature of watching footy at the MCG via exorbitant pre-booked tickets has become a stain on the game.

No great insights into the likelihood of this occurring, but I'd love us to smash Hawthorn today and absolutely pulverise them into the ground.  My hatered of that team and thirst for vengance can not be underestimated.

We were half way to doing that job last year and then let them peg back an ounce of scoreboard respect I'm the second half from where they were heading.  If I recall correctly, it was also a Petty FF breakout game, before he subsequently got injured in the same game and didn't play out the second half?

I have it on extremely good authority that “Bayles is still hurting” following last week’s performance. Not physically hurting (put down the defibrillator 😁), but he sets himself the highest of standards and is gutted when he doesn’t deliver. Believe me, no one is more disappointed than he is. He’s champing at the bit to get out there and atone for last week. This morning I told my extremely good authority person he’ll kick six, but we’d be happy with four. 😊

Yes you get in for free.

I don’t know about the Member’s wing but many of our supporters will be up the Ponsford end. Hawthorn released the bays adjoining our bay (M33) late yesterday afternoon (less than 24 hours before the match coz Hawthorn 🙄).

Don't take any game lightly, this is anything but a comfortable win.

I was there in 22 v Freo on a nice Saturday, like today, and they turned it on in the second half to pull our pants down.

If Hawthorn can beat the two finalists last year, they can beat us.

Go hard Dees from the first siren.

Fingers crossed 🤞

Bailey has been FANTASTIC his whole career. His consistency and impact can be taken for granted at times. The position he plays with his physique is unique in AFL. His career stats (minus his 1 year at half back) compare favourably with Charlie Curnow for example.  Even las week, his goal assist handball (with his right hand) to Trac was sensational.  He doesn't have to kick 6 to have impact. Love the bloke!

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
