The big difference between Gws and us they have better skills with ball in hand.

Yes the introduced being harder at the contest, but there ball movement was much better then ours especially late in the season.

Agree on the first part - they have more highly skilled kicks for sure. I'll be really curious to see if they look to get the Colt and Windsor in early to address our kicking issues.

Partially agree on the second, but it depends what you mean by ball movement.

Ball movement wasn't our issue. We were in the top three in terms of transitioning the ball from the back half but as we all know that broke down with the kick inside 50 and/or inncaruacy.

The Giants have better kicks and hit a higher percentage of their inside 50 kicks. A good example of that was our loss to them in the Alice.

We absolutely  smashed them for indie 50s but could take our chances. The super skilled Josh Kelly won them the game with a sublime kick in the rain from 60 metres.

Somehow, we managed to average around 90 points per game last year.

That's about three points less than top spot. We finished clear top 4.

Our highest losing margin was by under five goals to Essendon over in Adelaide.

Seven out of our eight other losses for the season were by less than two goals.

Much of that with a severely depleted forward line.

As an MFC fan, the Demons are always incredibly frustrating to watch.

Supporters of other clubs are also entitled to their opinions.

The dysfunctional forward-line narrative is getting a bit much though.

I just watched the clip and heard this from Kane: “there’s no real star-power in that line-up”.

- We’ve had 2x top 10 finishers from in the Brownlow Medal in each of the last 3 years

- we’ve had an AFLCA player of the year in the last 3 years

- we’ve had a Norm Smith Medallist in the last 3 years

- we’ve had a player kick 6 in a grand final in the last 3 years

*none of the above includes Max Gawn, Kossie Pickett or Steven May.

Old mate shares some truths sometimes but you really have to sift through a lot of sewerage to find them.

No real star power! No wonder I didn’t listen

Nope, just reiterating that after our straight sets debacles in 22/23 that unless we win the flag this year, we will be more incredibly difficult to watch. I'll go further and say that if the same thing happens again, heads will role Big Time!

The lack of bounce from half back, the lack of speed and class through the midfield and the ordinary forward line have all been issues the last 2 years.

We slipped from hard nose defending with a dynamic attacking game to something more like Ross Lyon ball the last 2 years.

It's certainly something that has to change.

People like you believe every myth out there, in the first 10 rounds when the team was kicking at 60% at goal, we averaged more then Collingwood, the difference between Melbourne having a high scoring and a low score came down to goal kicking accuracy, our lowest A/W score against GWS, we kicked 5 goals 15, you are the one who always thinks the demons are slower then other teams, no matter who is on the list

The amount of absolute gob****e about the Pies is ridiculous. GWS are far better to watch. All about the clicks though.

Hmmm why did we lose that accuracy? Could it be because we had no bounce from half back and always went up and down the same wing meaning we always attacked a congested forward line and then had shots from tight angles or from distance?

And why have our coaches pushed aggressive run and corridor footy this preseason? Maybe they’ve seen what Collingwood, Brisbane and GWS are doing and think we need to catch up.

I just watched the Dee v Swans game we were 17 down in the third when Fritta went off with a foot issue then Jake Melksham did his knee and hobbled off. No Petty no Melks, no TMac no BBB and JVR helping Max in the ruck. Fritta came back on and kicked three superb goals, we ground them down and kicked the last 5 goals of the game and run out 22 point winners. It wasn’t pretty but gutsy tough never give in footy, commentators were willing Swans to win and claim a home final in front of a packed home crowd. But we said NO.!!!

That was one of our great wins of recent memory given Sydney had a home final at stake and we had 4th place locked up and therefore had nothing to play for. Not to mention the venue was jam packed with Sydney supporters celebrating Buddy's farewell.

I left the ground thinking we were in the premiership hunt as much as Collingwood and Brisbane.

The media love for Collingwood is sickening. I also feel we are all being softened up for a Pies Blues GF this year. #sportsentertainment

The Pies are great viewing...unusually so.

Carlton altogether just another team on the up who have guys who can actually mark the ball.

Can you explain how the AFL are organising the teams to play the Grand Final please?

Thankyou in advance

Those two teams played well...the Blues when it mattered

The Lions as well.

Melbourne had injuries and underperformed in various ways

Which bit was the AFL?

I think you're confusing them with the commentariat...which is a little hard to do, although both are generally unappealing.

ps Maynard ,although he'd be a useful  addition to the Dee's, isn't good enough to  count in your argument

Vs Carlton, If Tracc’s (legit) goal had’ve been paid a goal we wouldn’t be discussing this right now.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
