Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

The powerful mid sized forward from Xavier College and Mansfield Under 18s is an intriguing prospect but still very raw and in need of more groundwork on his fitness and game development.

Oliver Seston, get yourself right Oliver, great size for an AFL footballer, looking forward to seeing him kick a bag out at Casey next year.

Amazing kick on this bloke, but fitness is probably the thing holding him back. I think he came from a long way back in that regards, so unsure if it is just that he needs longer to build his tank, or if he has a lower ceiling than typical of elite footballers?

If he can make strides in his fitness over this preseason, he might earn another year or two on the list so we can see what he's got.

I haven’t seen him play other than the odd look at Casey - other than fitness base are he and Kolt vying for the same position?
Are there any similarities to Luke Tapscott?

I've got limited knowledge here too but yes I expect Sestan and Kolt to be competing for the same spot, at least initially.

Sestan is a lovely kick off the football, and absolutely knows where the goals are. I'm not sure he'd have the tank to play high half forward or push into the midfield at AFL level, but that can be worked on. Sestan said in an interview earlier this year his preference has been to play as a deeper forward, I interpreted that as a small/medium close to goal forward where he could use his strength and skill to kick goals, but that we'd been making him play high half forward at Casey and running/working harder.

From what I've seen of Kolt has a mix of strength in the contest, explosive movement (lateral around and through traffic rather than pure burst speed) but his endurance running allows him to comfortably play up the field. He seems to have some versatility: in his junior teams I think he was allowed to play with more freedom, get outside, use the ball and kick goals, whereas in his senior teams he played a role less forward and more mid. I think we think his ceiling is a Petracca type player, maybe Trac/ANB hybrid.

Both are taller than Tapscott was. I suspect much better skilled as well.

  • 2 weeks later...

If he can't get his fitness up to the required level in the next month or so, it is hard to see where his opportunities will come from. There is very significant depth in his position, so it is really tough to see where he fits.

The lack of development of his body, especially compared to eg Taj W, makes me wonder if he really understands what is required.

I am sure he understands but he has only had one preseason - are your observations based on this preseason or last playing season?

Ollie is going to be a fascinating watch for me this year.

Unusual body shape and looks shorter than his listed 188 cms as a result.

No doubt as to his talent.

Everyone seems to agree that his fitness will be a big part of his development.

He could be the sort of kid who has another year at Casey and then explodes.

Looking forward to seeing him gain AFL level fitness and give himself every chance to make it.

Looks like he has talent, power and strength. Needs another season at Casey building fitness and preparing for senior level.

Never know he may surprise us this year. Judd McVee did last year and maybe someone will surprise this year.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
