Might as well get this one up, as there have been rumours of our interest.

Not much to add. I’m sure someone can link the obligatory highlights clip?

Currently seems like it’d be a reach for him at pick 11, but we’ve seen the same accusation levelled at JT/TL for selecting Pickett at 12 and that was a pure win for us.

Pros:

- Big body and agile

- Hits the contest, enjoys the niggle

- Clean overhead marking

- not the most natural kicking action but can penetrate and seems to have poise to choose his targets inside 50 especially after marking across half forward.

- versatile mid/forward and possibly wing? (6:17 2km)

- Country kid with personality!

Cons:

- Not a huge ball winner
- Might lack breakaway pace or explosive leap that can be handy for a forward
- Preferred position? It’s hard work being an afl half forward. Are we spending a first round pick on Nibbler2? And is he up for it?

Shades of: Daniel Lloyd, Cam Rayner, Tom Sparrow, Cam Zurhaar

Zurhaar probably the best comparison

Another inside mid type ???

We have surplus we need skilled runners who finish (Windsor) or a KP forward or back ie Curtin Caddy or O’Connor.

Don’t need hard as nails brutes or 6 possession half forwards who lack skills.

He’s clearly playing a team role at WAFL seniors but is he that dynamic a goal kicker? 7 goals in 10 games?

WAFL Colts averages: 9 games | 16.3 disposals | 11.0 kicks | 5.3 handballs | 4.4 marks | 2.7 tackles | 3.9 inside 50s | 2.4 goals (22 total)

Tholstrup started the season like a house on fire up forward, booting 14 goals in the first month with four consecutive bags of multiple majors. His season-high of five came against East Perth in Round 4, and he also clunked a high of eight marks in that game.

Looks like he was more of a goal kicker at Colts level before moving on ball.

Zurhaar to me is a goal kicker who can rotate on ball, but one of his weaknesses is he doesn’t find the ball or chase/pressure as a high half forward.

From what I’ve seen of Tholstrup he seems willing and able to play up the ground. Pat Lipinski would be another comp.

A guy who’s willing and able to do the running and play a connecting role across half forward is the type of player coaches love.

Who says he’s not skilled? Did you watch the video?

We don’t need to abandon our love of big aggressive bodies if we can make sure they can run and kick.

If all those players are gone before pick 11 then who do we take?

Sure he's a great kid, sounds like something you would need a strong ointment for.

All of those you mention are likely gone by our pick 11 (probably pick 13 after the academy bids). Assume that the O’Connor you’re referring to is actually O’Sullivan.

He was a dominant goal kicker through development, futures and colts. Hardness, strength and intensity plus being a country boy had him well ahead of others around the same age.

There’s no issue with Tholstrup not chasing or providing pressure at ground level

I think the thing that I was more concerned with is that he doesn't sound like he wants to go 'too far' from the family farm.
There have been a few comments here from people that seem reluctant to draft from the tassie players, but I got a sense that this guy is a chance to get 'homesick'.  So with us losing Jackson, and potentially Petty, I'm a little cautious on this.

He looks good. We have recruited well out of WA. Our scouts must be top notch.

Perspective is that he is Under 18 playing against men in a good standard WAFL.

Not sure how he tested for speed, agility etc.

If we pick him i will back our recruiters.

Have heard his work rate on and off the field is absolutely off the charts, a bit like Alex Neal-Bullen in this regard, he will get absolutely everything out of himself.

It's pretty clear we're interested in that explosive forward-mid type which makes sense, it's a more valuable type of player in the modern game

I must admit, I haven’t been that excited by him but when you factor in the highlights are from WAFL level, he seems pretty dynamic for a 17 year old at that level

I love him.

He's an absolute brute and isn't afraid to shoe that even at senior level.

Genuine x factor that I think could turn out to be a Zac Bailey type player who can really give you flashes of brilliance up forward until he builds his capacity to play more midfield minutes.

Strong and powerful who's got a good penetrating kick on him.

Christ, no contest, Tholstrup every day. Wilson is a mid-2nd rounder.

I actually quite like Wilson as a prospect and he'll go mid 1st most likely.

Has a great blend of speed and endurance as well as a beautiful right foot. Hits the scoreboard regularly spending a lot of time forward yet still averaged mid 20s for disposals. He's had a very consistent year.

The knock on him that I can see is that's he's predominantly an outside player and wouldn't have high contested ball numbers. I don't think that's a career killer but for that reason alone I would imagine the club may look at Tholstrup more favourably.

In a straight pick between Tholstrup & Wilson, who would you take @dazzledavey36 ?

I like buzz and x factor Tholstrup brings. I also think he has far greater upside with enormous potential to transition into midfield role ala Petracca.

Wilson is an absolute workhorse who is incredibly driven and is the ultimate professional on and off the field. He is another that will play round 1 purely because coaches will be blown away but his high work rate. He's very similar to Ollie Hollands and I think there's an element there that says there is zero depth after Hunter and Lamgdon which makes sense if we select him.

I'm bias and will say Wilson, but my god I would be stoked with Tholstrup

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
