Add him to the list of Melbourne players who left and subsequently returned some time later. Carl Ditterich and Gary Hardeman are on that list. Who else? (I'm ignoring WW2 which impacted on players like Bluey Truscott and maybe Jack Mueller).

1964 Melbourne Premiership player, Don Williams?

It seems I may have been labouring under a misapprehension.

I think it’s great

if I was a young WA (or whatever) kid joining the Demons,  and looked at how we cared for our potential Top 21 who in their late 20's had missed out through an everyman injury and bad luck, …. I would think … this is a good family, i can trust them, I'll stay with them

And whats more, the guy can play

Fullarton USA ruckman who tests up forward and can play in a key position. To say he is not a ruckman is incorrect. He has been for Lions and is regarded with some ability. He would be our first choice if Max is injured with Schache or Verrall second and third.

We are  not as lightning as you have stated so rest easy Deanox.

Hope that is a typo and we aren't getting another arrogant <person who tosses> Mason Cox 🇺🇸 😎

Can't believe the negative nonsense written about Marty Hore by posters.

He is a very handy signing. He has good skills & can fill in wing, or in defence & only injury prevented him becoming a permanent player last time round.

He'll also be an ideal player at Casey.

My post wasn't meant to be negative in any way - purely a question as I don't remember a lot of detail about season 2019   Must have been away working a bit

Hope you are right, Hunter’s disposal is very ordinary.

In last Fridays Hun, Lachlan Hunter was ranked the 5th best Melbourne player last year. I thought he had an excellent season!

Fred only had one stint at Melbourne from 1938-1947.

He then left to coach Hamilton and never returned to the VFL.

Didn't he come back for 1 game?? In fact it was 1954 and played 1 practice match in an aborted comeback!

1954 ????

Wikipedia says after playing for Hamilton he finished his career at Coleraine in 1953 so I'm surprised to hear of an attempted comeback in 54 at 33 years of age - sources ????

Chris Aitken

Remembering Chris-he was our great hope in the forward line in very lean times-shame about his knee injury. I believe he started in guernsey Number 46 then was given Number 5?(1967. 1969, 1977-thats a long time out of the game)

According to Demonwiki, Chris Aitken 14 games for 15 goals.  He was in the era just after Maurie Bartlett - ..both played CHF for most of their games  of their limited number of games.

Maurie 7 games for 7 goals. Guernsey No 3.

My only match at Victoria Park, Maurie played a great game and almost got us a win. If Tassie Johnson hadn't been blatantly pushed in the back which the umpire missed resulting in a Collingwood goal, we. would have won that match. After  6 goals from 4 matches in 1966, Maurie was dropped to the Reserves-not sure why.

He got a two match suspension in a Reserves game in Round 9 and then was traded to Prahran-I'm still at a loss to know why when we desperately need a strong forward in those years. Possible a discipline thing and a fallout with the coach., Norm Smith? Does anyone have any more details on this?

This excerpt is from Fred's bio on the truly magnificent and highly recommended Demonwiki website:

After leaving Hamilton he coached Coleraine in 1953 and announced his retirement at the end of the year, but attempted a comeback with the Demons in 1954. After watching the pre-season matches he asked the club for a chance to win his spot on the list. He played one practice game but appeared well overweight at 115kg and only had one kick in the first half. He was not selected for the final list.

Fair enough but I don't think he qualifies for 2 stints at the Club.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
