No pressure on the ladies but every win in the home and away brings us closer to the million dollar bonus

is this correct ??

Yeah, I just had a listen to it, just wanting to hear him talking about how good our girls were. Instead, it was all about how unfair it was they had to play us, given we won it last year and they won the spoon.

His point was in a 10 game season, 1 shouldn't play 18. But it was a real toys out of the cot moment

No wonder West Coast are reigning wooden spooners in both the AFL and AFLW when you read those comments. How pathetic for a senior coach to say that.

The sooner the AFLW has an A grade comp and a B grade comp, with promotion and relegation between the two, the better. Then we won't have to waste our time playing against these pissant teams.

How are you going to get better if you don't learn from the best at some stage and see where you stand?

Yep. See either the AFLW Fixture 2023 or Dr McClelland Trophy threads (which mods may now be merging)

I think it's Kate Hore's turn again next week on the '5 goals' roster?

Dees were very powerful even with 2-3 stars out.  Loved comeback of Rhi.

Might be some tough calls at selection this week.  Assuming they are fit, Paxy, Harris, Pearce and Gay would be most likely to come back into the side, and possibly Colvin as well to help counter North's tall forwards.  Who do you drop?  If Pearce is back then at least one of Campbell or Watt goes, and maybe Wilson and/or Chaplin make way for Gay/Colvin, but they all did what was expected of them this week and would be unlucky to miss.  And that's not even considering how to fit Harris and Paxy in.

It's a good problem to have, but we still need to get the selections right against the Kangas.  No good having the depth if you pick the wrong players!

Gosh is it a west coast teams coach prerogative to complain .

Adam Simpson did it years ago and now yesterday.

Maybe take advantage of playing a top team and see what we are doing right.

Stop deflecting from your teams and bad coaching performances.

I’m amazed at how well Kate Hore is playing since she took on the role as captain. A couple of her marks were incredible yesterday. So impressed with this team and proud of them. Well done to Aimee Mc for getting her first goal and for some of her goal assists - wow. So glad we have Alyssa Bannan too- how fast and athletic and again was pleasantly surprised at her strong marking yesterday.

If she ever got her ground ball game together she would be unstoppable.

Big gap between top and bottom. League expanded too quickly but we are where we are. Increase the number of games from 10 to 17 with every team playing each other. Hopefully that helps improve the standard.

And they didn't even finish last in 2022 like he claimed, they finished 3rd last - 16th.  They got to play us at home in Perth on a hot day too. Unbelievable wringing!

There will be some very unlucky players to miss. I'd like Chaplin to stay in. She's such a good kick!

That was a disciplined and powerful performance in torrid conditions.  Our girls could have been forgiven if they had taken their foot off the pedal once the game had been won, but to their credit, they didn’t!
Given the mediocre quality of the opposition, it’s had to judge how good the performance was.  Next week vs North will be a much better gauge.

This weeks game against North is the most important match of the season.

Beat them and we lock in 2nd.

And this week Adelaide play Brisbane in Brisbane.   Then the following week Adelaide play North.

We could be top of the ladder even this week and so avoiding having to face Adelaide in Adelaide for finals.

The dodgy draw and limited season that the AFL concocted looks just awful now.

Essendon 5th best side?  Give me a break.  They were simply appalling against Richmond, but still won.  Take away Prespakis and Toogood, and they would be the same as WCE.

superb

The fact that this didn't even register for me during the game says... something!

Absolutely. This game was meaningless in terms of any player's form or ability due to the quality of opposition, but it's a battle in itself to ignore the scoreboard and keep pushing in those conditions. They'd have loved to kick several more, but we can't say it was for lack of trying. There were some tired kicks in the last.

Play of the day for me (with apologies to Banno) was the Irish connection for the Sherriff goal in the third. Goldie with the one-on-one contest to B.Mack with the step to A.Mack hard up against the boundary with the flawless centring kick. Just an impressive little skills showcase.

Also enjoyed seeing the ruck combo of Campbell and Watt. Hugely important stepping stone for Campbell and she really put her best foot forward from the get-go. Watt was solid also and worked into it well. And that was possibly the best mid-game  interview I've ever heard, just so honest and natural.

I tried to focus in on West in this game. She does so much to clear the way for others. She's not part of the handball chain so often, but her tackling pressure was apparent.

Even though the oppo wasn't convincing, the fact that we can take out Paxy, Gay, Harris and Pearce (almost 250 games experience) and get that result... well. For context, even with those outs (3 of our top 5 in games experience), we had 784 total games experience compared to the Eagles' 543. An even match-up it was not.

It really can’t be said enough… Rhi Watt is invaluable to our Club.

This is the observation of one of our cheer squad members…

We were located on the flank/wing on Sunday and I loved listening to Rhi coaching on field. Calling players, directing where they should be - who to watch. She was exceptional. She is clearly very knowledgeable and well respected by her peers. And, I would say, a coach in waiting.”

Very solid win for the girls.

Obviously Bannan the stand out up forward.  Quite a game.  Didn't she originally start out as a defender?

Thought Campbell did some nice work after the first quarter covering for Pearce.

The two Mackins look great.  How was the kick from Blaithin off one step into the top of the square after the handball from her sister at one one point.

Playing very well as a tight unit.

Haven't seen Brissy or North yet but Adelaide seem like they're the team to beat after last week's impressive performance.

Although we didn't have Paxy who may have flipped the result had she played.

Paxy back this week for North?  Harris out with more hamstring issues or is she good to go?

Tayla should be right for Saturday. We’ll know when the injury report comes out but if I hear anything sooner I’ll post it here.

Looking at the AFLCA votes leader board, shutting down/out Jasmine Garner will go a long way. Time* for a tagger? Who?

* Also, time for 'AFLW Rd 08: vs North Melbourne'? Whose turn?

Your turn again. You do such a great job of it. 😊

But first…

RUTHLESS, PRECISE & NOT HERE TO PLAY NICE!

PS Paxy sustained the injury while giving Poppy the pooch a bath. Poppy clearly isn’t a fan of having a bath. 🤭

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
