He wasn't good enough and the defence is a bit pathetic to be honest.

Had a good game last night. Has lost confidence with kicking for goal and with his movement post his injury, but should take a lot out of that game. He moved well and covered some ground up field. Pity he rolled his ankle. The club is curse with foot injuries. 😏

He played ok but boy does he go to ground a lot. His balance and agility are very poor, which you’d expect from a player a  lot older.

It's a process.

It's clearly a mind thing for Petty.

His confidence seems to be slowly returning and eventually after more strong games of contested marking he will start taking advantage of his opportunities and slot them.

I feel like he may have a couple more very average games but that he's turned the corner.

Serious momentum killing miss from pets. That was the beginning of the end last night. No excuses really. 
 

I know Langdon’s misses were bad too but in the context of the game, and given pettys one job is to kick goals, he really killed us last night with that miss.

Not worried at all. Taking big marks and impacting contests, last 2 weeks have been a big improvement. The goals will come if he keeps playing like this, either for himself or the team. 

 

I thought Petty played very well apart from his finishing in front of goal, which he's shown before he can do.  Got up and down the ground providing a target and took many contested marks.  He's Ok at ground level for his role too.  He's getting back to his capability and is definitely a keeper.

Thought he played well last night just a shame he couldn’t convert. He’s an emotional big lad and the goal scoring is between the ears for him. He’s conversion rate was much better last year. Could still be a cracking forward if he can sort his kicking much like Harry McKay has this year. Failing that he will still be a very good defender.

Still think he's the heir apparent to May (lord knows we don't have another...Adams ain't there yet) and we should be maximising the time of May being in the team to let Petty keep learning next to him. 

Yeah - there's not a lot up forward - but now the 'win now' mode theory has more or less been disproven I think we're just wasting time with Pets up forward. 

Put Tmac up forward to finish his days - he's still better at ground level than most of our bigs even on his last legs. 

Turner should be in Tommos spot - learning from Lever but as the clear 3rd/4th tall who can actually move and run off half back (Tommo can't). 

Back: May, Petty, Lever, Turner (tall or small)

Forward: Tmac, JVR, Jefferson (learns with the 3rd best defender), Fritsch (tall or small)

Hate the short termism as our FD continually overrate the list. 'Win now' is gone - time to get serious about having another crack in 3-5

Issue with playing the long game is it inevitably costs those in charge their jobs.

I thought he played better by moving up the ground on leads than staying at stagnant.

Confidence is a problem for him but he’s a very good contested mark which is impossible to teach. Goal kicking can be fixed. 
I hope he stays as he’s clearly a very talented player who can play both ends. Just needs a good injury run for once. 

I closely watch all set shots and guess their accuracy. 

In at least one, Pettys eyes were darting all around the stands while nervously spinning the ball, wiggled it from side to side while walking in, certain to miss. He was FREAKING OUT, possibly about social consequences, not calmly focusing on the goal, ball and what he had to do. 

But with the right mindset and focus there's a chance he could turn this around quickly, especially with the appropriate influence of someone he greatly respects.

Not that it was evident last night but a lot of his misses this year have badly shanked to the right and I wonder if the foot issue has really affected this. Last night was probably more about confidence though.
