Umpires were genuinely atrocious today. That advantage call late in the 4th was a defining moment. I’d be punching walls if I was a Brisbane supporter.

Pies total winning margin in all finals

Advantage Collingwood. Ridiculous Collingwood get the rub of the green yet again.

They really do stuf6 up the game a lot.

Don't know why I expect better in a gf

Lions only themselves to blame. That 50 to Sidebottom turned the game, but they just looked sluggish when they should have dominated around stoppages.

Hate to say it but the pies were the best team today and best team this year. They neatly kicked it away too.

The umpires were woeful from the first bounce that went out of the centre circle.
Brisbane should’ve had a lot more opportunities (or Collingwood less) which could’ve been the difference.

That could have been us.

Was never going to be us. Always the Pies. Gil very happy.

That absolutely no advantage / advantage pies call decided the game perhaps.

Fitting end to the season.

Well stolen filth.

Berry should not play again.

two 50’s for no reason

Certainly doesn't seem the sharpest tool in the shed.

This. He wanted a good feel story to end his endless reign of terror. Don’t forget pick 3 to Norf for McKay on your way out you piece of dog****.

They say stuff like the ‘four best’ but they are the same muppets from every week when mistakes and inconsistency are ever present.
Just hope they don’t start umpiring the girls

Let's be honest from arc to basic umpiring to brownlows the afl doesn't get much right lately.

Gotta change the advantage rule. If no advantage accrues bring it back for the free kick

I think if that next player chooses to take the next kick advantage is paid. He should have stopped.

Can you believe Frampton is now a premiership player? The bloke did nothing.

Hipwood failed to fire and whoever was on hill hope that lives with you over the pre season.

I was secretly hoping they'd snag another one & Brisbane win by 2 points.

So frustrating. Pies kick badly but win a premiership, we kick badly & lose 2 finals

This is a [censored] nightmare.

ADVANTAGE!?!

[censored] ADVANTAGE!!

A player with two blokes on him. PUT YOUR [censored] WHISTLE AWSAY YIU DUMB [censored]

YOU JUST LOST YHE LIONS A FLAG

No matter how far it had gone, they just needed to call it back. Keep blowing the whistle. But nah, it's the pies and it's the show case of our game supposedly.

What a wonderful summation of where our beautiful game has gone.

Gil your are the murderer.

God, I don't know what I'd do if I was a lions supporter at the ground. I'd want to torch the joint.

Maybe just maybe Collingwood’s game style does hold up in finals.

This finals series really did just suck.

I posted at halftime that the game would likely be decided by umpiring. And so it came to pass. The state of AFL umpiring is killing the game. For all the brilliant play, and players, all the work, dedication and teamwork, umpiring is simply making the game unwatchable. Congrats to Collingwood, but we’ll forever know there’s a huge, ugly umpiring asterisk hanging over this flag.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
