We have apparently spoken to McQ. I assume they have also reached out to Dew.

I reckon either would be good

I reckon McQualter had quite a bit to do with Richmonds success and would be an asset.

There's the odd outlier, I know, but I presume most of us want Goodwin, Williams and Richardson, at least, to stay 'happy in the service'.

So, which of the names put forward so far in this thread do you think would provide the best chemistry (while of course also providing the best input)?

For mine, I suspect it would be someone 'coming through', not an ego.

Chris Newman is moving from Hawthorn to Richmond as Assistant Coach, that probably confirms McQualter is on the move.

Any news on Stafford on the move? Been with us for 10 years and it’s probably time we have fresh eyes.

The only time our backs looked flakey is when our mids allowed the opposition to just waltz it through the HB and midfield into our defence.

Our backline is the least of our concerns

A little surprised. As I thought Brett Ratten was cooked.

I guess Sam Mitchell convinced him to return back to Hawthorn in a different role.

Apparently Gavin Brown and John Blakey have departed North Melbourne. Would the Demons be interested in either of those two?

Out of the (playing) game for too long?  Would prefer someone who finished up in the last 10-15 years max.

Goes against everything i have said for ten years, but i would look hard at Hird.

McVeigh as well should be a contender.

It's an interesting suggestion for a couple of reasons:

  1. Goodwin was an assistant when Hird was senior coach. Could they work together with the roles reversed?
  2. As a player, Hird had a skill few players have had of knowing what he was going to do with the ball before he even got it. And then he executed perfectly most of the time. But just because a player has this skill can they coach it into others?

This suggests to me that Goody is aware of his tactical match day short comings ...

There are any number of reasons why Goodwin (like an increasing number of AFL coaches) would prefer to be down at ground level/with the players.

I rate Blakey highly, spent a lot of time and as a senior assistant at the Swans. Would be a great option.

.... and help us bring in the Lizard!!! (for Grundy! haha) :D

What about TMac and BB taking on a combined coaching role as they transition out of playing. BB is perhaps coaching the AFLW forwards already?

Blakey has a good reputation and did great work as an assistant at the Swans for years. Could be a good option.

I think Nick Blakey would be an incredibly fantastic trade for Brodie Grundy and an excellent replacement for Michael Hibberd. However, I cannot see the Swans letting him go though! More likely to hopefully snaffle the Swan's first draft pick this year in number #11!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
