  • Demonland changed the title to VOTES: SF vs Carlton

6 May - kept Curnow quiet all night.

5 Gawn - another top effort.

4 Petracca - powerful bursts but he still can't kick straight.

3 Lever - some key intercepts early.

2 Smith - better than Fritsch on the night.

1 Oliver - but nowhere near his best.

Please say goodbye: McDonald and Jordon.

Totally agree he and May were our best and Goodwin hasn’t been playing him ffs

6 May - Had Curnow's measure on all but one play. It was almost like watching him blitz Buddy last year. This time he almost got us over the line.

5 Kozzie - A couple of moments of madness but just a spark all night.

4 Hunter - From the word go realised his role was to negate Acres and just was so smart. Voss had to switch Acres wing  late.

3 Viney - Always working his butt off, although not quite as damaging as previous weeks.

2 Petracca - A couple of errant shots at goal, but gave our forward line some real spunk and won a few clearances in the second half when moved back into the middle after halftime to try and curb Carlton's centre square dominance.

1 Salem - Hard to believe after his insipid form of late, but Sallo was back to being clever with his chip kicks and went back to providing us with run out of defence.

4 J Smith - Why does this guy get NO love on demonland? competed all night, 4 goals basically, given Kozzie stole one off him with his undisciplined selfish reversal free kick

3 McVee

Hunter and ANB just miss out, rest of the team was poor-to-average.

6 May

5 Gawn

4 Smith

2 Lever

1 Petracca

-1 viney (undid great work with shockingly predictable last kick)

-2 Fritsch (needed more)

-3 Chandler (great early season but faded)

-4 Pickett (so costly undisciplined acts)

-5 TMac (sadly not physically able)

-6 JJ (saw him maybe twice and did f-all)

Other than Gawn, the rest of the mids get nothing.  Totally eclipsed by Walsh who completely dominated all night.

6. May - just an outstanding defensive effort and more proof that a good key defender will always beat a good key forward.

5.Spargo - I really liked his game and his commitment to the cause.

4. Smith - our best forward on the night

3. Gawn - the best ruck on the ground.  One very costly miss, one miss that would have been a great goal but was never likely.

2. Sparrow - a very good game from Tom - showed better skill than some bigger names.

1. Lever - started like a house on fire. Was in the right spot most of the time.

Special mention - ANB - loved his last few weeks.

6 - May

5 - Max

4 - Lever

3 - Spargypants

2 - Tracc

1 - Joel Smith

Sparrow, McVee, Hunter, ANB, Riv, Clarry, JV tried their hearts out to no avail. Kozzie had flashes of brilliance but cancelled himself out in the end. What was Schache’s all about.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
