I was so nervous and excited last week.

I feel nothing this week. Footy has been less than enjoyable since last Thursday if I'm being honest.

Hope we put on a good display tonight and get the win.

I suspect you'll feel a little better after a comfortable win tonight and the joy of ending Carlton 's  campaign.

Getting huge vibes of us vs Hawthorn semi in 2018. They are where we were and we are walking wounded and arguably on the decline, as Hawthorn were. I hope I'm wrong.

Same here.

My gut is we’ll lose tonight. Hope I’m wrong.

We have the distinct displeasure of having Nathan Williamson (#22) officiating tonight. So get ready for Free kick, Carlton.

Worth a look to see if no.22 is plonked right next to Curnow by Tricky Gil.

Dees must wrap this up by 3qtr time. A close game would be a disaster for us.

The fix is on for a Pies Blues GF. A Corporate love fest.

Controversial times we live in.

Ah....memories

Of when we kicked straight! 😫

It was a reverse Melbourne performance whereby we won the game with 6 less scoring shots.

That was genuinely one of our best wins in our history. Certainly was from the late 80's onwards.

and have lost one game in 3 months.

What is it Super funds say? Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance? It's no wonder they need to say it so often, people just assume the status quo will continue forever.

Okey-dokey then

Dees at the 'G are living proof there is no such thing as home ground advantage. We have won 11 from 15 at the 'G this year (not all home" games, obviously) so hardly a fortress. And, as for finals at the 'G, we've had nothing since 2018 (mainly due to Covid in 2021, admittedly).  Is playing at the 'G against co-tenants different to playing a proper away team? Do we have a home ground advantage against co-tenant Carlton tonight? Even if it is our "home" game, the Carlton crowd is likely to be louder. Where is the advantage?

Surely Schache or Grundy sub right???  Why do we have Schache if we didn't put him in this week FFS??!?!

He should be but his performances in his last three matches or so, including the small entre' he played at senior level were bog ordinary.

I'm not sure why he was re-signed and the non-selection of late confirms that the FD have zero confidence in what he might bring on the day.

There was even the talk of looking to play Disco forward, that's how bare the cupboard is.

Maybe those performances were post the re-sign?

Hope he turns it around but not good signs at the end of the Casey season.

Some talk about bad umpires joining the fray tonight.

It doesn't bother me too much.

If we play good footy, start the game strong and give them nothing, we leave very little work for compromised umpires to do.

Cant see our forward line kicking a winning score tonight. Not that I think Carlton will kick that much more. But I feel their midfield will dominate clearance, especially when Max is resting, giving their forwards more opportunity. It is going to be a very defensive game, I just think they have the edge. Injuries have come at the wrong time, as it did last year.

I can feel a big Kozzie game coming.

Historically he hasn't shown up in big games.

He was nearly there last week. Gave us the spark we needed in the third quarter, just didn't convert his opportunities.

Tonight is the night.

We have been hoping for this for weeks and weeks, unfortunately it just hasn't eventuated.

I kinda am, Jaded. I just need to think about the sun and I’m burnt to a crisp. There isn’t a sunscreen on the planet that can protect me, unless someone’s invented SPF10,000 overnight. As a fellow-ranga I’m sure you hear me, amirite?

You and me both. It'll be dark by the time the game starts. You'll be fine.

We get there super early though. Last week it rained for the entire set-up time so I rocked the drowned rat look. Today I’m going the Lobster look. 😁 Variety is the spice of life. Speaking of spice, I’ll be sitting next to Mumma Nibbla tonight so I’m gonna kiss my eardrums goodbye. Tomorrow morning I’ll have no voice as well as no hearing. Girl can yell. 😂

I’ll caveat the following that I’m extremely nervous and that any team can honestly win it from here. Carlton are a great team, but with many threats from friends of 🎾 emojis (straight sets) incoming if we lose, I’ve got to believe the following…

Dees by 36

Defence: May and Lever to dominate. McKay and Martin are massive outs. Martin is targeted more inside 50 than any other player.

Midfield: We’ll have ruck advantage with TDK likely having to spend more time forward to fill McKay’s role. Carlton’s midfield has the tilt though.

Forward: We’re down on stock, but if we can lower the eyes and stop the high entries, I think our strategy of playing small will beat their tall defence.

Hoping the Dees to open strong in 1Q, expect an arm wrestle 2-3Q, then a blow out 4Q.

So.... who's booked their flights to QLD?

Not flights, but I’ve booked accommodation. I wouldn’t say it’s the cheapest and nastiest but it does come with a free infestation of bedbugs which you get to take home. 🥳

There’s free cancellation up to 24 hours prior. I WON’T be cancelling it though. ❤️💙

Whenever you're faced with an explanation of what's going on at Harrison House, the choice between incompetence and conspiracy, always choose incompetence.

That's the usual choice, but with the AFL I suspect it's the other way around or at least an equal mixture of the two.

Not sure if it's been posted but lovely now and then story of Max Gawn from the Age. Hearing the now famous Gawn voice come out of a 17 year old in the draft camp interview is amazing.

Thanks Max

I read this and cried. I just love Max the Magnificent.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
