If Adelaide are going to play hard ball I would just walk away, apologise to McAdam's manager and not answer their calls. No disrespect to McAdam but we simply cannot be seen to blink first here. I'm not suggesting we should be an Essendon or Geelong at trade time but we can't be painted the suckers of the trade period. Stand firm Dees.

We can just take him in the PSD for free.

Adelaide currently have 36 primary list players and 4 rookies.  The maximum number of primary list players they can have is 38, so they currently only have 2 primary list vacancies.  They currently have picks 10, 14 and 20.  They actually need to lose a player to be able to use them all.  There's no way they keep a list spot open for McAdam in the PSD so they can re-draft him.

I hope they continue to be stupid and run the clock down on it and we get to keep the F2nd.

Yes, if they don’t take it then push him through the PSD.

If someone wants to take him then that is the risk.

For those that are still confused - I can rest you assured that as a former Forwards Coach that we need more actual forwards. Melksham being the most effective forward for half a dozen games last year is a bug not a feature (and I love him). To think we can get away with only Fritsch as a natural forward in his prime is delusion.

Adelaide might want to remember that they do not operate in a closed market.

The longer they [censored] around, the less likely we are to be accommodating next time.

Future 3rd + signed Harry Petty 2021 (or 2024 future) premiership guernsey with certificate of authenticity.

Neither Petty ( despite what Tim Lamb said) or Melksham are likely  to be playing before the King's Birthday which means McAdams " depth" may be useful.

Of course BBB and TMac may be cherry ripe and training the house diwn

So, you know that Petty won’t be playing before KB?  Careful riding horses: crystal balls are very fragile.

Edit: PS perhaps you will turn out to be right.

I dont get it with McAdam. He's been playing for a while and hasnt set the house on fire not to mention injury issues.

Is our cupboard that bare. I dont think so. If we have better luck in 24 he will struggle to get a game.

Fwds... Petty Jvr Fritsch Pickett Anb Smith and possibly Melksham and a fit BBB with backups Chandler Sparrow and Spargo.

Just another depth player like Dunstan.

No totally wrong..This guy has some SERIOUS X Factor, Dunstan had zero

Wonder if we’re going to give them Sydney’s future 2nd round pick instead of ours? I would love it if we stick to our guns and they accept our first offer, which I think was reasonable, but I trust our team will do what they think is best.

Listening to the Channel 9 sports bit where Norris made this comment, it didn't sound like progress had been made. Just that it's a trade still to be finalised, it probably will be and the soonest it can be done is... checks watch... tomorrow.

Amen to that.

The term "Natural Forward" is the key here.  Some players just get the whole forward craft and finishing side without over thinking it while others take an age or, try as they might, never get there.

Then there's the will to impose defensively as well.

I would throw BB into the mix as a genuine tall 'natural' forward that does 'get' his role and can get a return (roughly 2 goals a match) .

Problem is does he get back to anywhere near his best in 2024 or get back at all (and stay there)?

Melksham won't return till late in proceedings.

At this point we go into 24 with Fritta, assuming his foot holds up pre-season.

And probably McAdam given that Adelaide, even with half a brain, will have to bend at some point and deal.

Assuming the deal goes through the good news on McAdam, based on 2023 form...

👉🏼  Not dissimilar to Fritta from a goal return sense averaging 1.7 (Fritta 2.2)

👉🏼  Takes roughly the same number of marks inside 50 as Fritsch.  But likes to mark more on the lead (1.6), about twice the rate of Fritta (0.8), so our challange will be connecting to capitalise here.

👉🏼  Goal accuracy was 67% (Fritta 53%).

👉🏼  In general field play his kicking was elite at 71% (Fritta 56%).

👉🏼  Is above AFL average in general tackles (3.3) as well as tackles inside 50 (1.4).  Kozzy being our best here in 23, averaging 1.9   The next best Melksham with 1.3!  McAdam's pressure acts also at AFL standard.

In form and super fit, most likely a very handy player and hopefully in number of matches, much more than that!

Don't think so. Believe it's a journalism student who collates info/posts from some of the main trade journos.

Yes - was chatting with an Adelaide supporting mate over the weekend.  He said McAdam is definitely a best 22 player for them but said he didn't play a lot of games due to injury and suspension.

Yes he's 28 (and I'm not saying I don't think our offer is reasonable) - but he's a bit better than some on here are giving him credit for.

He was drafted at 25

I just think McAdam will become a fan favourite after Round 1

Has that X Factor which is what we are craving for up forward (Yes we have Kozzy)

Rnd 1 Forward line

HF - McAdam, van Rooyen, Pickett

F - Fritsch, Fullerton, Chandler

I think it will be Petty CHF and JVR FF. I am hopeful that Fullarton can do enough to hold down a ruck/forward spot as well as I'm not keen on playing a rolls royce like JVR in the ruck any longer than we have to.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
