33 games, 10 goals. Feels like more hopium or legitimate Max ruck back up as opposed to ruck/forward solution?

His VFL level says different for this year anyway.

10 games for 14 goals.

How does a Free agent affect pick 1 ??

I'm tipping red is implying WC might feel some resentment for us taking  a player away from them and therefore less likely to trade pick 1 to us.

Ah..i see.   Cheers

Personally not a fan of throwing everything into #1.  Would rather a handful of promising talent..  Greater chance imho of finding a couple of handy players.  Reid will be good...so will others.

could make it part of a trade deal and supporting each other...

They have two, Williams and youngster Barnett.

Williams is a forward forced to play first ruck and Barnett is a kid. Flynn I guess is looking to plant his flag as number 1 ruck somewhere now not as a transition.

If we grab the bloke they want, they might not be inclined to trade picks with us.

Do you think after 8 years on GWS list Flynn wants to leave to wait another 2 years to play regular senior football?

Max had to wait 8 years I recall....

If they believe the deal will advantage them they'll still do it.

From memory we were the ones who placed an academy bid on him, so fair chance we had a bit to do with him before he got drafted

Yeah we bid on him at pick 41.

Afl.com article - always funny looking back at drafts and who got bid on. Himmelberg and Keays were good value for where they were bid, Matt Kennedy less so.

Fair but this guy already has. We would be asking him to wait 2 more. Do you think Gawn would have come to us at that point under that scenario?

How do you sell the idea to anyone then? Everyone's seen that Max is better as the only ruck. Whoever comes needs to be comfortable with that unless they are a genuine forward-ruck.

From our perspective that's an issue though because we do need an able backup in the increasingly likely case of injury or decline to Max.

Whoever we approach, we can't say 'you and Max can play together' because we couldn't do that with just about the best and most different ruck that was available last year

Very good ruck back up if we can get him.  Might be able to rest Max for a hand full of games.

I’d be very surprised if Max let’s them rest him!

He has been injured the past 2 final series now.  He might not have a choice

Agree on the first part but as for the second, Goodwin doesn't manage (rest) players very often if at all

Given the two options WC or us he has to choose West Coast, right?

Barnett is still two years away and he can walk into a first ruck position. A shame.

Flip side, if we open up the door for them to take the bloke that they want - that they know we could have got - it could be leverage to deal with us on pick 1.
I’m not 100% sure blackmail is the way to go though.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
