A bewildering call to put Schache as sub in the first place.

Certainly wasn't based on last week's form at Casey.  Maybe they were looking at his block of form prior to that as he was horrible last week.

The only other take is they want a rucking option as back up for Max if needed and someone who can also play either end a la Smithy.

Grundy being the original back up ruck option and also a chop out fpr Max early in the season.  But of course most likely no longer an option so Schache was it (for Goody & the SC anyway).

Think Grundy might be right out of favour.Has a bad club attitude tipical collingwood player

Laurie improved after a poor start but he is the obvious one choice to make way for Fritsch.

I would like to see Hibberd in the side too, maybe for Bowey. Free up Rivers to do even more attacking work.

Pig copped a head knock in the VFL. reckon he won't play next week

Grundy is a Melbourne player deserving of our support. On what do you base this? Last I checked his attitude has been stirling throughout. Typical Collingwood player??? pot the nuphy supporters all you like but there are several Collingwood players who have shown class across the journey not all JDG's.

If 5 years ago someone told you we’d be a top 4 side three seasons in a row, with a flag under our belt, you’d tell them to go lie down.

That was a good day at the footy. Hawks had a real crack, but our class won out after half time. G was in good form and once again we got a good crowd in.

Since Fritta went down we’ve gone 6-1, with the one loss by 4 points. I think if we were promised that after his injury we’d take it.

It was fine that he was sub. If we lose Gawn in the first quarter you can’t have JVR go alone in the ruck. Would be a disaster.
I don’t know why we subbed him on in the last tho.

Yes i understand the reasoning as stated... bewildering as in based on last week's 'form'.

Subbed him in the last to give him the opportunity to try and impact me thinks.

As in we don't just wNt you as back up for Max, we'd love to see you comtribute up forward too.  Show us what you got son!

8 goals from JVR, Smith & Melksham is more than reasonable especially with Fritsch to be added (sooner or later)

I would tell them to lie down because I would have murdered them

Dont give me hope like that

DONT DO THAT TO ME

Melksham has really stepped up to the plate since Fritschy when down. He's having a real renaissance.

Used it well but defensively was poor.

A bewildering call to sub Schache on for Tomlinson. I understand they didn’t wanna not use him, but FMD we are lucky it didn’t cost us.

Tomlinson played well. Schache has no urgency.

You watched a different game to me. It’ll be Tomo’s last game with us. Not surprised he got subbed.

[censored] he does not try or support our team

So going by your logic fritta does not come back in?

Providing the Lions beat the Aints at the Gabba,we'll finish 4th regardless of a win/loss against the Swans,so it's a Dead Rubber but we can't rest players because of the pre-finals Bye the following week.

No team has won the flag from 4th in the last 20 years but

Bring on week 1 against the spluttering Pies

It was a really tough week. I’m all in this year. I was literally shaking watching this and I’ve got the GF coming up. I’m going to take up drinking and pot again.

I didn’t love Tomo’s game - gave his opponent too much space - but I did love Lever’s.
Tomo’s presence facilitated Lever’s performance. I’d stick with him.

If we win and port loose we move to third so it’s not a dead rubber

What a dumb comment, seriously.

ok where is he playing now, just some collingwood hack we got lumbered with

Has anyone else noticed how much love Kossie has for Trac? I feel like Kossie sees himself as Trac's bodyguard or something, but if anyone niggles Trac, regardless of how minor, Kossie comes running in like you slapped his mum or something. To me it speaks to Trac's leadership and the relationship he built with a very shy kid(with oodles of talent and more than a tad lethal). Also can't help but wonder if that is part of the reason why he is still a Dee. Anyway don't worry about Kossie, some big games coming.

What I've liked this season is we've adjusted tactically to the likes of Hawthorn and Collingwood. The Hawks are hard to break down. Sure they had no Newcombe or Lewis but we were patient.

Fritsch > Lewis

😏

Need to lock away Rivers for 10 years.
The last quarter reminded me of the last quarter kings bday where we finally strangled them and kept it in our half. That’s dees footy.
Kudos to Mitchell. He has that team flying.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
