Bowie? Why?

I like Bowie and he kicks well. Spargo kicks well though not over 40m, and has been poor lately along with several of our small forwards.
We have tons of pretty good back flankers who fit in with our defense.        It's far enough out from finals not to mess things up while we briefly see if Bowie might help our relatively poor forward line.

JB is a great player. Just having a poor series with the gloves. On fire before he stuffed up his knee late last year on the golf course.

Been a long time since I've seen an experienced keeper have this terrible a test series. The contrast between he and Alex Carey could hardly been more striking

He is a terrible keeper, such poor form like I’ve never seen.

Good batsman for sure. But a test level keeper ....... nowhere near it!

Reasonable batsman, I reckon. But doesn't know when to stay in his crease. Most unusual for a keeper to get stumped!

Bairstow... Bairstow... Nup; can't place him. But I reckon Tommo, or Smitho, or Hibbo will go to him.

Dees by an innings and 25 points.

Shhhh.... don't tell the Poms!

I wouldn’t sit in that temporary stand at Old Trafford if my life depended on it. Especially right up the top. It looks like a collapse waiting to happen. There’s no protection overhead, nor at the sides. It makes level 4 nosebleeds at the ‘G look inviting.

Migraine central up in the bleaches.

Did we ever do anything good in your view though?

Yes Plenty Old but playing injured players is something I cannot agree with/ What about you?

There was simply no reason not to play Tommo in my view and there has been nothing explained

Injury management was a problem last season it is reasonable in my view to ask the question

Worst keeper since Jonny Bairstow.  :D

Hahaha !

I don't how I let that one through - either Jonny or Jimmy would have made a better job of it !

Did the dog play as a spare?

I wish there was more footage of it, looked like something out of Tad Lasso.

I haven't seen Ted Lasso but taking a punt for potential good social veneer.

Look, I love Bowie. He’s been an inarguable legend and made a lot of his supporters very happy over the years. But he is very prone to massive dips in form. In fact it’s fair to say that the thirty years between “Absolute Beginners” and “Blackstar” were, from both an artistic and AFL perspective, a real walk through the desert.

Designed a great knife, though.

Haven't watched the presser - but it sounds more like grumpy goody than laconic goody.

I like grumpy goody.

May has to stop Tex. That is the vital part of the game.

If Tex and Rankine can be kept quiet, we will win easily.

I would say so. Tex's year has been exceptional, only 1 goal behind Curnow in the Coleman. Rankine is one of the best forward 50 stoppage players in the comp, gotta watch those ground balls in defensive 50.

Yes there's Fogarty, Rachele and Thilthorpe who can get on the scoreboard but things up forward do tend to flow from the other two and I'd rather make them try to beat us with their 3rd, 4th and 5th options.

No Rachele this week. Suspended.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #42 Aidan Johnson

The VFL premiership player was recruited from Werribee to alleviate Melbourne’s forward line woes and give a chop out in the ruck, but he managed only five senior matches in his first season at the club. At times, he was a dominant force at VFL level.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #44 Luker Kentfield

An exciting young key forward, Kentfield was selected in the 2024 mid-season draft but has yet to make his AFL debut. He was sidelined by a severe bout of pneumonia over the summer, which consequently limited his pre-season. Upon his return a month into the season, he commenced in defence but ultimately impressed with his progress at Casey, particularly in the latter part of the season as a strong marking goal kicking forward.

  • AFLW REPORT: West Coast

Melbourne’s response to last week’s heartbreak was emphatic, as the Demons delivered a statement win over West Coast at a windswept Casey Fields. All of the pre-match hype surrounded the coach’s box matchup of Mick Stinear up against his apprentice, Daisy Pearce along with the gloomy weather forecast. In the end, it was less about tactical chess and more about Melbourne’s relentless execution. With rain looming, the DeeArmy and early birds snapped up the best undercover viewing spots.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: West Coast

Epic battle alert.  This Sunday, Casey Fields hosts a coach’s showdown pitting the wits of the master Mick Stinear (92 games, 71.7% win rate) against his protégé Daisy Pearce (16 games, 43.8%). Still early in her coaching journey, Daisy’s record doesn’t yet reflect her impact — but she’s already the best-performed coach at West Coast.Dais’ is mythic.  Like Katniss Everdeen, everyone either wants to kiss her, kill her (sporting metaphor) or be her.  Toothers Daisy Pearce is a role model, someone admired for their heart, humility and humour.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.
