Disagree, Goodwin keeping Petty on nearly cost us the game. Be very clear the players win this game not the coaches.  I have been a consistent Melksham detractor as he consistently goes missing. The perfect sub imo

Melksham plays a very difficult role. If he didn't go missing occasionally he'd be Toby Greene and lauded for his incredible skills.

Just loved that one handed trap on the ground by Koz to beat 2 opponents and then straighten and goal.

Very fitting for Viney (the Hulk) to be running around with half torn off dacks for the last ten minutes of the quarter. Just ripped it out of Omacs hands and then snapped between 3 opponents.

M52 is reserved seats. Too many oppo fans just waltz in  and sit in the empty seats. MCG staff do a lousy job at checking tickets or memberships. But the Make Some Noise lady is a hoot, she will approach the oppo fans and ask if they have a ticket for the seat. When they can’t provide a ticket she kicks them out and if they refuse she then calls security.

I’ve met WCW and they could pass for twins 😂

Difference is she hangs up her Make Some Noise hat at the end of the match. I don’t. Just ask the poor unfortunates who were on my tram to the city. 🤣 As well as my long-suffering son who tried to pretend he was asleep when I got home. It didn’t work.

Gotta say JVR did a great chop out ruck job up forward.

They've had him rucking at Casey since he started I think. A great backup strategy it turns out.

I loved that tap right to Kozzies toes late in the third, HB straight to Tracc for an important goal late in the quarter.

Such an interesting time for us now.

The forward line is coming into the right mix but I reckon our backline might be challenging.

Petty needs to mend for a couple of weeks by the looks of it.

Did anyone else think May is a bit crook? Hope we can manage him through and Tommo really gets a good run at it.

That game really was amazing. Can't wait to watch it again during the week.

A season defining win.

Onwards and upwards.

Unfortunately Gawn can only play his best football by being the main ruckman with a chop out.

I would like to see McVee tried in the midfield the kid has a football brain.

Still find it amusing that the Lions went from attacking to defend the last quarter, how that mindset happened is beyond me but must give credit to the players who probably sensed it and went full press.

When you had Zorko as your captain, it speaks volume for how bereft of leadership you are. I wouldn’t let that troll captain a collection of rats, let alone an AFL side.

Sydney tv no nothing about footy. Lever basically had the ball and dickwood took it off him to try and claim the mark. What a joke.

Border line cheating in my opinion

He took 10 marks, 5 contested, slotted the winner and another in the final quarter. I'll see your sub and raise you a certain starter for the rest of the year.

The goal from Viney was the single most important turning point. His will to compete and win is outstanding. A great leader.

Also the Melksham contested mark before Kozzy goal

Just made three 18 year olds (2 mine) sit through the last 3 minutes while I commentated.

I think we’re forgetting how good Vineys goal was, he stole the footy during a tackle and bulldozed his way through. What a gun!

Just watched the replay and it’s hard to separate Viney’s goal, Rivers line breaking and Melk’s efforts. All were amazing individual performances

Interesting that, as Fagan said, we tagged Neale. Pretty effective too.

It wasn't a hard tag though, because he had different opponents each time. Someone was just responsible for being the defensive mid at the stoppage to sit on Neale.

That's twice against Brisbane this year that we've thrown caution into the wind and played daring, skillful footy when all looked lost in the last.

Imagine if we did that for longer periods during games?

An important learning to take out of this win

I'm not being factitious, i promise, but playing fast, running in waves, daring football that doesn't break down too often because of skill errors requires a super high level of fitness. And we are not quite there yet. So its it simply not possible to do for a whole match. Yet.

And its worth noting that it comes with a significant risk -  a fast, risky game styke keeps the opposition in it as it invariably leads to goal on the counter. It is why the teams are always in against the Pies  and why we din't get more scoreboard separation in the first quarter.

According to the interviews post game on radio, Brayshaw was the man responsible for Neale mostly. Very good effort IMO.

Thought that was possibly Gus’s best game this season.

Probably pays to lose Louis’ handball, on the Sunday Footy Show, to your old man, the week before a big game.

For those who think Brisbane played better for longer, it was an almost perfect split of dominance. I say almost because guess who was slightly more dominant (by one point 😎):

We have M52 seats and it's a great spot to watch the footy. Last night I was grumpy before I got to the game and when a Brisbane couple sat down near us I was more grumpy...this was supposed to be Melbourne area.  When they started drinking I passed the limit and told them it was a dry area but got little response. I made it a point to yell louder in their direction on a number of occasions. They left at half time and didn't come back. I hate seeing opposition colours in that area. (I get that sometimes kids take Oppo supporting mates into the area)

I'm  getting grumpier as I get older. I've been supporting Melbourne for nearly 50 years and don't have a lot of patience at the footy these days 🙂

No doubt about our leaders. Brisbane has had issues in that department for a fair while. Neale's a great player. A leader he isn't. Zorko lol

Watched the game with my wife and our 3 day old daughter, Remi, in a private room in the mat ward.

It’s fair to say I will never ever forget this game.

We had absolutely lost that game, until we won it.

Melk’s mark and goal was immense.

Signing up Remi as soon as I finish reading some of the threads here - she’ll be a Demon for life.

Congratulations Ron to you and your wife, also welcome to the world and the Demon family Remi

This drives me nuts too. The MCG staff are so poor at letting people sit wherever they want. Last night Brisbane fans just walked into our reserved seat section and sat where they wanted.

If you pay $600 for a seat to see what amounts to 10 games the least the MCG staff can do is protect the value the club places on the seats. It’s literally their only job.

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
