Not sure if this has already been mentioned, but the DeeBrief podcast has just done an interview with Aden Yze - I think itโ€™s only on the Premium version. He was pretty candid with his info - some of the key take outs:

- They definitely had a loading period over the past few rounds, with Yze likening it to a mini pre-season. He said they had targeted the consecutive 10 day breaks to put the load into players.

- They are going to play Trac almost exclusively in the forward line, with Brayshaw coming up to midfield. He said that they trust Viney and Brayshaw to lead the midfield. They will also give Kozzie some centre bounces to get his hands on the ball. Apparently Kozzie had been sick after Alice Springs and so had not trained fully up to the Saints game. He was also tagged heavily during last weekโ€™s game.

- The aim is to finish Top 4 every year, whilst we have this list. He described it as having a chance to knock on the door and whatever happens after that, happens. He explained that this was a theme that Clarko used at the Hawks. Yze also said that he thinks our finals series of 2021 was unbelievable and doubts whether it will ever be repeated (as in the total dominance of our opponents).

- He also made mention of the fitness and medical team, saying that they are fantastic. He used the example of Salem being able to return to AFL level without having to come back through Casey.

No place for Yze spin here please. We all know:

loading only exists in Binmans head

kozzie is not interested since signing his contractย

Goodwin poor coaching and tactics are the only thing holding this team back from playing like the 2021 prelim and grand final every weekย

hawthorn were on top of the latter for about 4 straight years and didnโ€™t lose a gameย

Great Intel. Thanks for posting.

Strange, I'd never thought about our premiership as being some kind of rare level of dominance, just as 'our premiership'.

But margins of 33, 83 and 74 are pretty phenomenal when you reflect on it.

Having said that, my search for comparisons was pretty quick, with the Geelong berserker rage event in 2022! They also provided another case way back in 2007 when they obliterated North and Port either side of scraping home over Collingwood. Magpies had a very good run in 2010 except for the draw. Brisbane dominated the qualifying and preliminary finals in 2002, but only got through the grand final by a kick.

So the list of really powerhouse finals campaigns is basically the 2021 Demons, the absurd Bombers of 2000, and Geelong's golden era bookends in 2007 and 2022.

Amazing to think that is the historical company we belong in.

I agree - and also love the @Demonlandย podcast for a more in depth look. It would be fun to hear some โ€œcross podโ€ action: I think Naughtsie was once on the Demonland pod to talk about his Merger podcast, but how about @binmanย on the DeeBrief for a show?!

The Demonland Podcast might be able to accommodate Naughtsie for a segment, but the Deebrief certainly isn't long enough to accommodate @binman!

Not a premiership year Little G but in our first two finals of 1987 we won by 118 and 76 points.ย

Guess it would depend on when the pod was done, but was the GC coaching job bought up?

Deebrief is talking to mates at the pub about our favourite players โœ”๏ธ

Demonland pod is the weekly visit to my therapist โœ”๏ธ

I am grateful to both for the balance they provide my life

No - nothing was said: I guess the pod would have been done earlier this week.

You can scrub geelong 07 off that list of dominant finalists as they got up by a kick against coll in a prelim.

Binman is talking quantum physics type analysis whilst the Deebrief is dealing in algebra.

Big fan of both styles of podcast!

In hindsight we were utterly dominant I'm 2021. Smashed the finals. 8 out of 9 against the rest of the top 5.ย

Geelong were also very dominant last year, however, they did have a close final against the Pies in week 1. On the other hand, they were even more dominant in their actual GF win.

Sydney had definitely played their GF the prior week, didnโ€™t have anything in the tank!

In terms of margins, our finals series in 2021 is the most dominant finals series since Essendon 2000, and it's roughly on par with that (3 points less on average). Statistically it will be decades before we see a team as dominant as we were in finals. Geelong were good last year, but fell over the line against the Pies by a kick and were a level below us (16 points less on average). With that in mind, we should appreciate how insanely brilliant our 2021 finals series was and likelihood says no team, let alone us again, will repeat it anytime soon.

We'll always have 2021!

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, weโ€™ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: โ€œThen came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.โ€ Today, weโ€™re back in the same place although oneย difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, โ€œIt was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, โ€ฆโ€ย  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
