This week’s contest against Geelong is a must win if the Casey Demons are to arrest their downward spiral over the past 4 or 5 weeks. They won the corresponding game at GMHBA Stadium last year and with a much stronger side on the park this week, they should get the job done.

On the VFL website they have two players to watch for the Casey Demons

• Josh Schache  - leading club goal kicker for 2023 with 19 goals (average 2.4)

• Blake Howes - leading club disposals for 2023 with 245 (average 22.3) and leading club marks for 2023 with 75 (average 6.8)

Would like to see Howes getting a game at AFL level. Hope it’s soon.

Schache has missed his chance for this year. Just gets pushed off the ball too easily as a key forward in a one on one and does not seem to have the ability to find space.

Is there a spot going forward into 2024... I can't see it

If Petty is half fit and unavailable for the main game we could do worse than give him a half to 3/4 at Casey for this game.

The connection between Tomlinson and Howes at VFL level is very good. It would be interesting to see it at AFL level when the time is right.

I read that he came to us from Doggies searching for more opportunity - from the games I’ve watched (only one live) he hasn’t looked like it, even though he’s the leading goal kicker.

My possible side

B: D.Smith, Adams, Buntine

HB: Bowey, D.Turner, Howes

C: Woewodin, Dunstan, Jordon

HF: Melksham, Schache, Chandler

F: Spargo, Brown, Jefferson

FOLL: Verrall, Harmes, Laurie

IC: White, Moniz-Wakefield, Munro, Sestan, 23rd man

We could do a lot better in fact a bloo.. lot better of getting Harry completely fit before we risk him in any grade albeit in a VFL game that he need not be playing when not fully fit.

Whatever your thoughts you are not serious please, and thinking of Harry's future in any way shape or form.

A perfect example of why you should not mix alcohol and prescription medication.

Agreed,  and what prey tell is bullitsh?  Quite a few frightened posters on this forum.  Australians always seem worried someone might catch feelings.

Poor BBB and we really need him fit and firing at the buisness end of the year for another crack at the big one. I remember that Nick Riewoldt had to have his knee drained on a regular basis near the end of his career and he still played some great footy for the Saints.!!!

Gotta plead a bit of ignorance with this one, it was early and got confused by the full stops after 'bloo'. My bad!

Full credit to any MFC supporter that makes the trip down the highway on back to back nights.

you do wonder why it's being played at night. I suppose it is to make it easier for the non AFL listed players who have jobs.

Wonder what they prefer Friday night or noon Saturday.

Good luck to young Verrall on his return from injury - hopefully gets through the game and starts building some good form

Yes I can.

The senior team.

B: Lever, May, McVee

HB: Salem, Tomlinson, Rivers

C: Hunter, Oliver, Langdon

HF: Petracca, Petty, Neal-Bullen

F: Fritsch, van Rooyen, Pickett

FOLL: Gawn, Brayshaw, Viney

IC: Hibberd, Grundy, Sparrow, J.Smith

SUB: Chandler

The reserves play Friday allowing the sub to play.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
