From the AFL:

Colin Sylvia, Melbourne, has been charged with bumping or making forceful contact from front-on towards Kane Cornes, Port Adelaide, during the first quarter of the Round Six match between Melbourne and Port Adelaide, played at the MCG on Sunday May 6, 2007.

In summary, he can accept a reprimand and 93.75 points towards his future record with an early plea.

Aaron Davey, Melbourne, has been charged with charged Matt Thomas, Port Adelaide, during the third quarter of the Round Six match between Melbourne and Port Adelaide, played at the MCG on Sunday 6, 2007.

In summary, he can accept a reprimand and 93.75 points towards his future record with an early plea.

Travis Johnstone, Melbourne, has been charged with abusive language towards umpire Craig Hendrie after the end of the Round Six match between Melbourne and Port Adelaide, played at the MCG on Sunday May 6, 2007.

In summary, he can accept a $900 sanction with an early plea.

And also...

Contact between Melbourne's Byron Pickett and Port Adelaide's Kane Cornes from the fourth quarter of Sunday's match was reviewed. It was the view of the panel that Pickett pinned both of Cornes' arms and dropped his knees behind the Port Adelaide player's body to take him to the ground. Cornes' knees dug into the ground, which propelled both players forward and caused Cornes' head to hit the ground. Pickett did not sling or drive Cornes into the ground. The forceful contact with the ground was due to both players' momentum and while the action resulted in an injury to Cornes, which was unfortunate, it was not a reportable offence

im actually happy, especially for byron

i thought that after all the uproar over headland, goodes etc getting off those who went up this week would cop weeks

i think davey deserves a week for what he did, he was never in the contest and just dropped his shoulder into his back, a terrible act nearly as bad as goodes as both were only going the man

Good outcomes for us... I thought Davey was in a bit of trouble, so happy he only got a reprimand.

Good on Trav for having a go at the umps. On the replay, I noticed that Neitz was giving them a real spray after the siren as well. They deserved it!

did anyone see this? was there head high contact? if there wasnt why was he cited at all? if the ball is within 5 metres there is nothing to say you cant bump someone in the chest or simply front on. as long as you dont touch his head, especially as long as the player is bending over the ball.

Maybe everyone that abused the umpires after the game (from home and from the ground) should send $1 TJ's way, as a thanks for speaking on behalf of all of us. There'd be $2 coming from this house.

He'd come out with a pretty tidy profit I reckon.

what does an umpire get fined with if he brings the game into disrepute? he should have to pay tj's fine at least, and the 10 bucks i spent trying to get through to talk back and irate messages to friends

Funny you say that, because on the train on the way home, I was speaking to some equally [censored]-off Melbourne supporters who agreed that we should all donate a gold coin to help cover the fine, if Neale Daniher gives the umpires a real spray in his press-confrence and cops it from the AFL.

It would be worth every cent, given the crap they dished up this weekend (and for most of our games in 2007).

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
