I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned. 

From what I saw on the television is that Rozee, head down, ran into Hunter who turned side on the protect not only himself, but Rozee.

    No contact to the head.

    Stopped and was reaching for the ball.

    Appeared to brace and didn’t use elbow, forearm or shoulder.

    No injury.

    Rozee played on without any treatment and kicked the winning goal in fact.

    All commentators during and after game said it would be looked at, but should be ok, as he did everything right to protect Rozee as players are being taught.

    Verdict, life imprisonment.

    I think he was reasonably contesting the ball but I suspect he‘ll be given 1-2 weeks (depending on whether the MRO gives him medium or high impact, as to which it’s a random lottery) and we won’t challenge as it’s too hard to overturn.

    Will 100% get a week for that. The AFL will say he chose to bump and needed to stand back and let his opponent have a free run at the football.

    No head contact or injury, so wonder how you could get to medium or high impact, but I suspect the inconsistent one will.

    Players should start getting suspended on both ends of this action IMO. Hunter has an obligation to protect his opponent,  and his action can be construed as a bump. But his opponent if he had acted exactly as Hunter did would not have been injured. Therefore suspend them both, as both of them contributed to the injury.

    This protects the AFL from litigation (I think this is the fundamental reason why they're suspending based on impact more than the action, so they can say "well we suspended the player who caused the injury, what more do you want from us"). It also disincentivises players from acting with reckless disregard for their own well-being, as Rozee did.

    If Rozee had soccered the ball like Port had been doing most of the night, then it wouldn't have been an issue. So his choice in tapping the ball on (knowing Hunter was headed his way) was a dangerous action (for himself).

    He was stunned enough to be low. The “potential for injury” lottery will see it go up to medium/high.

    Hunter seems to have pulled up to me. Not much else he could do except step away ..... and that's just not football.

    Who knows? We'll just have to wait for the chook lotto draw.

    Hunter was practically stationary and in the same motion he turned his body he picked the ball up - there was no separate bump and collect action. It probably shouldn't have even been a free kick as you're allowed to pick the ball up whether another player is contesting or not. The action that would be more worthy of a 1-2 week suspension is Viney's slide which is quite a dangerous action.

    The footage makes it look like Hunter was moving towards the ball because the camera is following Rozee. If you follow Hunter relative to the signage painted on the ground he is practically stationary and all he does is turns his body and picks up the ball. Shouldn't have even been a free against in my view.

    You would have to argue that Hunter was stationary at the time of contact (difficult) despite Rozee's momentum causing the majority of the impact.  

    Unlikely to get off.

    Remember Christian has been humiliated by Melbourne, who he already hates, so no way will Hunter not be suspended for an action entirely initiated by Rozee.  
    I have mentioned before numerous times, players charging headlong into packs or other players need to be penalised themselves - if not there will be some poor bugger left paralysed and an “innocent bystander” forever condemned just for being there.
