Only positive I can see is that I'm not the silly [censored] with $50,000 on them to win but at least 6 points.

Goody said before the game he does give the team a spray if it's required. I'd say tonight is the time again

Pathetic. That was the worst quarter our current midfield has ever played.

We have to be the worse side in the AFL at going for the ball and keeping it front of us.

Every time we pick the ball we are so easily pushed/bumped off the ball and the ball goes tumbling out to the opposition favoured side while we have 3 players running to the other side for a cheap one.

Lever used to be our best player.

I've never seen Max and Teac so uninvolved.

Those dogs are absolutely smashing our captain up.

Still in it.

Come on Naarm. Punch back

The only way is up in terms of stoppage work. Abysmally bad that half.

Would love for someone to stand up for Max. Butters, and just about every other port player, bumps into him at every opportunity. Hell even a 4 gamer in Lord had the nerve to put a dirty elbow into his back. Stand up for your captain ffs.

This is why I bang on about clearances.

We need clearances, we need first use of the ball because we need to be playing in front because as soon as the game becomes a scrap we are no good.

Lucky we have the best midfield we’ve ever had then. Weird how ineffective they are. It just doesn’t add up

If this midfield group doesn’t get their head ripped off at half time by the coaches, for this lifeless, soft, insipid performance, then I’m not sure when they will.

This.

JVR is a bright young talent, but jeez he runs under the ball repeatedly and is basically uncompetitive. He doesn’t have any support. Brown should’ve come in instead of TMac. At least he draws a man, free kicks, and was kicking goals before injury.

Dees haven't showed up

Some pretty poor efforts out there ATM

They are getting stuck into Gawn again. Someone fly the flag and help out the captain ffs.

We are playing afraid. Afraid of [censored] it up, afraid of losing.

Where has a g&d from 2021 gone. We were relentless in our attack and endeavour, now we are way too regimented in our ‘systems’ that when it doesn’t go according to plan we are all at sea.

12 frees to 7 and we got first three.

clarrie called for throws

but Port multiple one handed throw, Powell pepper double handed over top of his head

umpiring is so bad

max pushed in back constantly only free in centre against him for blocking a joke

Still demons need to lift

Umps influenced by the moron crowd noise.

It's always the way there. Always.

Max needs to show some leadership. Getting some treatment, but needs to work his way through it

Forunate

*Very* forunate.

I’d go as far as to say: tremendously lumky

It’s the midfield.

Forwards are not getting a look, backs are under siege.

Midfield cannot clear and move the ball.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
