Just a note that the Suns traded their future third round pick to the Dogs, not their first

Otherwise the Dogs would have done ridiculously well 😅

Are you sure? From the afl trade tracker website.

Western Bulldogs receive:

a first-round pick (currently No.4), two third-round picks (currently No. 46 and 51) and a future first-round pick (tied to GC)

Gold Coast Suns receive:

two first-round picks (currently No.10 and 17) and a future first-round pick (tied to WB)

Looks like they have since edited it to future third:

The Suns have also traded their future third-round pick to the Dogs as part of the deal.”

I hope this works:

Thanks, James. The highlight among what I'm sure we could eventually recall as many more for the Demon boy who became a Demon man.

was GC future 3rd???

My apologies, I got my info wrong (so did the afl trade tracker). Not sure if it's doggies or suns 3rd rounder as it doesn't specify.

One of the great footy stories.

Probably my favourite bloke in the club in terms of his happy demeanor, never-say-die attitude and work ethic.  Then again there's Piggy and Clazz!  Hard to split.

I recall the first year wondering who this Harmes kid was at Casey (or was it Sandy back then?).  Any relation to Wayne Harmes?  If so what's he doing at the Demons?

Had his ups and downs early but eventually found his feet.

Remembering that he started 2021 under an injury cloud.

Stuck his head down at Casey for a few matches and showed the FD he was ready again.

In he came and the rest is history.

The steal in the GF to turn things was a piece of football magic / folklore that all Demon faithfull will never forget.

Thanks for the premiership and truly wish you much success at the Doggies.  Thank Lucifer it wasn't the peptides.

F3rd sounds about right.

Again shows roughly what McAdam is worth.  Sad to see Harmsey in other colours but all the best to him, has been one of my favourite over the years.

Underrated Harmes game was 2018 elimination final against Geelong. Kept Selwood quiet, then had a crucial moment in the third quarter. Got lippy at Selwood while running to the boundary, Melksham got involved and Selwood ended up giving away a free for high contact.

This was 100m off the ball, which was in Tom Hawkins' hands lining up for a regulation set shot. The moment possibly won us the game.

Fourth player once the 2021 Grand Final to swap between Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs.

I still think he had a place in a run-with role while the likes of Noah Anderson and Butters tear us to shreds.

Don’t blame him for leaving, will always be a Melbourne player and played a key role in the premiership.

And Sam Walsh who destroyed us in the semi final and did what he liked.

In a perfect world, Harmes keeps Butters to 20 and 1 goal instead of 40 and 2 in round 10 and we win. He also prevents Walsh from getting that early goal in the last quarter and snuffing out Carlton's early last quarter burst.

However, the club doesn't tag/run with and thus there was no role or future for a below average skilled player in Harmes.

Good get for the Dogs tbh - 28 year old mid with power, pace, and aerial prowess with 150 games.

Always felt our midfield was better with him as the 4th / 5th. I know he tried too much this year, but feels a loss overall to me.

Round 23 2018 V GWS and then week 1 2018 elimination final was peak James Harmes.

I think he polled 8-10 coaches votes in both games.

Not surprising he signed a long term contract in 2019 given he was at the peak of his form.

No it's tied to the bulldogs.

Under current rules, if you trade out a future 1st you can't trade out a future 2nd or 3rd unless you've replaced those picks.

Doggies got GCs future 1st from their trade yesterday so were allowed to trade their future 3rd without issue.

I missed that part of the deal.

So doggies got pick 4 and gcs future 1st for 10, 17 and doggies future 1st.

Doggies are doing well.

No, it’s a F3 from GC, allowing the dogs to then trade their own F3.

I bet they wish it was a F1.

I knew I had forgotten one from the finals, you’re spot on.

Never forgot that pass to Fritta in the GF, was a good servant and wish him well.

Hope he can take out Weightman if he gets the chance.

He had a purple patch in 2018 where for a while there he was playing like a top 5 player in the league.

Thanks James for being the Demon i admired during the time i was alive for my favourite season of football that was 2021. Good luck in your future endeavours with the Dogs. You deserve it.

Imagine living the dream of playing for the team you supported as a kid and being involved in the pivotal play the turned the game that won the club's first flag in 57 years .

Thanks Chompers for your contribution and I hope you go well at The Dogs

The journey continues Harmesy. Good luck for the future.

No one will ever take away your Premiership and we will always be thankful for your pivotal part in it.

Always a demon. Go well .

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?

  • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.
