Big Congrats to The Suns first team to win the week after playing us.

To be fair, playing West Coast is now considered a training run not a game

Adelaide are actually a strong side at home.

Glad we're playing them at the G.

Me too. They’re going to be a very good team. Building nicely and assembled a nice list. Plus Burgess.

St Kilda were always going to come down. They had a glorious run fixture wise to begin the season.

They've played mostly the same teams as us but got close to Collingwood and port Adelaide. Honestly we have had a softer draw

Really good this win for us. Opens a gap between us and Saints and also smashed Saints percentage which was the closest to ours.

It does seem funny this year. I know we started 10/0 last year but all the talk was that we were not actually at our best and would romp the year in. This year, we have lost a couple of games, sit probably second after round 9 with far and away the best percentage and no one seems to be saying a word about us at all. We probably had an easier start to last year so are really looking much the same as last year but it does feel like we are really going under the radar.

Cooper Sharman must get two weeks.

Front on spoil on Fogarty hitting him in the face.

It was inevitable and clearly had the potential to cause injury.

He will get off at Appeals Board.

Oh, hang on, no stretcher, then he’s fine.

The ump dept needs a full review and reset 56.

In particular...

> it's reluctance.to call HTB after more than sufficient prior which sometimes results in a dangerous sling tackle

> it's inconsistency with interpreting HTB, prior, insufficient attempt & incorrect disposal

> the stand/outside 5, delay of "play on" calls once player behind mark moves off the mark, in particular set shots where the player shooting for goal is often allowed to arc off the mark and ends up kicking the ball around the player on the mark instead of over it allowimg a much closer shot at goal.

> The stand rule where the mark is set for player standing the mark but player with the ball is often off to the side of the mark and is, with few exceptions, not asked to move around to his correct angle behind the mark, where the goals and the player on the mark should be the reference for determining that angle.  This often results in player with the ball being able to run up to or past the player on the mark before the umpire calls play on allowing player with ball a massive unfair advantage.

> The protected zone.  More emphasis now on players moving out of the front of the zone whereas the rule was brought in to stop players from sitting inside the players lateral zones in order to try and prevent player with ball playing on into or kicking to someone on a 45.  Oppo players now quite often run through the lateral protected zones and are now not called for 50 meters.

> On occasions players who are clearly asked to stand, move backwards off the mark after they took the option to stand.  And visa versa with the outside 5 rule.  My understanding is you can't do both and once the option is excepted by player in question, to do otherwise is an immediate breach and 50 meters.  Fairly certain this was adjudicated as such strictly early on....but some or many umpires have now backed right off on enforecement.

> Unless the above issues with the stand rule are resolved with a massive tightening up of how it is adjudicated and governed.... it should be scrapped entirely and we revert back to the old system where there was no stand/outside 5 rule.

Bottom line is...from an umpiring perspective the game is a complete mess and state of flux.  Major overhaul needed.  Will the AFL recognise this and do so?  Nope.

After watching our game last night, pushing in the back with both hands appears now to be completely legal.

It's just against the spirit of the game to see a player well positioned in front of his opponent to be just shoved completely out of the contest.

And, it's dangerous. It will lead to a serious collision with some shoved headfirst into a contest.

I'm watching our players do it now and I don't blame them. Everyone is getting away with pushing in the back.

At some point the media will point it out and the. There'll be a weekend of pushing in the back free kicks before it's forgotten about again.

Frustrating for everyone involved.

Why did they allow hands in the back in the first place? It was obvious the likes of Hawkins, Lynch etc were going to exploit it.

1 week for the hit, 1 week for the name.

only allowed to hold your ground. but not to push

not hard to adjudicate

Of course I want GWS to win so we can claim our rightful place on the ladder.  ( But is a bad thing to look forward to seeing N. Daicos play).

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
