Interesting thought.

It takes over 75 minutes for 3 ex player lawyers to decide if a player did the wrong thing in one second.

Makes the whole thing seem totally ridiculous.

Brilliant.

They are charging in 1 minute increments @Redleg. What's your charging regime?

QD - I am getting bored and thus pedantic.   It is a regimen.  A regime is a despotic dictatorship, like the AFL

Feels like we are going to get shafted and then nobody will suffer a similar punishment for the rest of the season.

Nothing surer

Will Houghton KC is representing Melbourne and young star Jacob van Rooyen.

He is arguing that rule 18.5.1 is there to protect a player whose sole objective is to either contest the mark or spoil the mark. He says rule 18.5.3 contains a protection or an immunity to the player, when their sole objective is contesting a mark or seeking to spoil a mark, from being charged with a reportable offence.

The rules:

18.5.1: The Player whose sole objective is to contest or spoil a Mark shall be permitted to do so.

18.5.3: Incidental contact in a Marking contest will be permitted if the Player's sole objective is to contest or spoil a Mark.

Houghton argues that van Rooyen spoiled the mark using an outstretched arm and fist to punch the ball away, which should be the end of the matter.

That’s our case.  How can they suspend him !!!

These clowns are on Fiji time

I am currently deployed in Plantation Island so speak with some authority on the matter (drinks taking 30 mins)

no disrespect to Fiji time with which I have a substantial amount of affection for

You mean ever.

Looking like the Moloney /Bartel case.  Didn't hit but could have.

I think the issue is his use of the facepalm followed by this is ridiculous. I wonder if the AFL will withdraw the please explain should the Appeals Board find that the 2 week suspension is in fact ridiculous.

Who are we playing this week? Does it matter? 😂

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
