As we should. Very happy to see the club get behind and show support to a young bloke.

I would’ve been rather upset if we didn’t.

How do you reconcile it with Fogarty smashing Murphy last week and breaking his nose, with blood everywhere and not even a free kick and no citing, or even screaming by the media?

He hit him like a train crash, front on. Injured. Off the ground. Nothing to see here boys.

Impossible to do so Red.

The system is a total [censored] up.

The inconsistencies in umpiring and in the review system would be comical, if it weren't for the fact that they are ruining the largest professional sporting activity in Australia.

It defies reason that a professional body with the billion dollar income and resources of the AFL cannot/ will not work towards a solution to remove ( or even improve) this blight on our game.

Dermott Brereton in support of JVR on SEN. Reckons it was genuine spoiling attempt. accidental contact. Says the decision must be changed, otherwise it has the ability to drastically change the game. Reckons Christian is being directed by higher powers to suspend players based on outcomes, to satisfy improved optics amongst fans (and lawyers - although that was what I inferred, not directly stated).

What I struggle with - which fans are these “optics” appealing to? Cause all us nuffies are spewing that JVR has been offered a suspension for competing the footy.

if the AFL is concerned about parents not wanting their kids to get hit in the head then we’ve got a problem. It’s a contact sport, you can’t insure against accidents.

Rapt the challenge is on. Hopefully we incinerate Christian’s [censored]…and give it back to Jay Clark as well.

Thats just it, they wont spend the money Uncle. You see it every week with the now 5+ score reviews per game, while we all sit there clueless to the outcome. They wont even go down to JB HIFI and buy a decent set of cameras for all the possible angles, instead of 2 !

If the AFL is concerned about parents and their willingness to have their children play the game, they should be more concerned about the off-the-ball incidents which occur against the best players in every game. The constant bumping, niggling, elbowing and shoving is a far greater blight on the game than a poorly executed defensive spoil.

Well maybe not wasting $4 million on consultancies, to simply appoint the 2IC in the office next door and paying millions and millions on Executive salaries, could provide plenty of money to fix some of their problems, which as you say are ruining our great game.

I know the game has moved on, but years ago one guy and a couple of secretaries ran the game and everyone knew the rules and what to expect. One umpire on the ground, worked better than 4 umpires now, overruling each other from 200 metres away, seems to do now.

I know there has to be progress, but it should lead to everything being better, not worse.

Just a little monday rant.

If you are concerned about your kid getting hurt, then don't let them play AFL. It is as simple as that.

Injuries will never be avoided in a contact sport, it does not matter what we do.

Or Wadda ... as was discussed on another thread over the weekend ... do something about the fact that questions being asked at coaches' press conferences are inaudible !!

FMD !! There is technology that allows a robot to be landed on Mars , yet, in many ways we remain in the age of Thomas Edison.

The appeal will result in a quashing of ANY penalty, which seems obvious to anyone with half a brain. The bigger question, which many of you have raised, is why was he given a penalty in the first place? Why is there no process of oversight to make sure these ridiculous judgements aren’t made to begin with? The cynic in me thinks it’s deliberate attention seeking…..clickbait driven by controversy. Otherwise it is just amateurish beyond comprehension.

Do you know the sport with the most serious knee and ankle injuries?

Netball.

Re Concussions; can't the AFL and AFLPA start some trust fund that can be used in the future to help retired players that have brain issues due to concussions?

The risk will always be there, even if they were to wear helmets. However the risk these days is way lower than in the past, and it's better managed when those incidents occur.

It was purely incidental.

It’s wasn’t careless, neither was it intentional.

And there was no malice involved.

By the way, another poster - obviously comes from Romsey - used the word 'egregious' yesterday, on the very same topic. Is it a Romsey Mansion Buzzword of the month? Remember when everything was  'substantive'?

BY the way, what does it mean? My wife has burned all of my books, including my Dictionary...

Yep. Parents should just let their kids stare at screens and vape instead. And never ever let them in a moving vehicle.

Besides the clicks, HQ can say their process works. MRO offers weeks as per the matrix, and player cleared by tribunal. Justice is served, in their mind at least.

Optics are for the mummies not wanting their precious kiddies playing a sport where their heads could be knocked off.

A game created for the benefit of orthopaedic surgeons.

Very true Uncle, very true. I reckon Thomas could do a better job......at least the lights wouldn't go out during games !!

The Cripps incident: what's the difference????

Cripps jumped into an unaware player that must be worse

Going of the media views on this incident I'd say there is a very high chance he gets off this one.

As a poster above mentioned, how do they even come to this determination when Chol's swining arm was much worse and had a high chance of causing an injury. Absolutely no consistency from two incidents in the same match.

Christian obviously panicked because a stretcher was called out, but just because that happens doesn't mean the act is worthy of suspension.

He has shown over the years he is not competent enough to fill the MRO role, so they should be making changes to this process at the end of 2023 and get something better in place.

Do we know what time the actual hearing is yet?

It was freezing cold at Mission Whitten Stadium where only the brave came out in the rain to watch a game that turned out to be as miserable as the weather.
The Casey Demons secured their third consecutive victory, earning the four premiership points and credit for defeating a highly regarded Collingwood side, but achieved little else. Apart perhaps from setting the scene for Monday’s big game at the MCG and the Ice Challenge that precedes it.
Neither team showcased significant skill in the bleak and greasy conditions, at a location that was far from either’s home territory. Even the field umpires forgot where they were and experienced a challenging evening, but no further comment is necessary.

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Having convincingly defeated last year’s premier and decisively outplayed the runner-up with 8.2 in the final quarter, nothing epitomized the Melbourne Football Club’s performance more than its 1.12 final half, particularly the eight consecutive behinds in the last term, against a struggling St Kilda team in the midst of a dismal losing streak. Just when stability and consistency were anticipated within the Demon ranks, they delivered a quintessential performance marked by instability and ill-conceived decisions, with the most striking aspect being their inaccuracy in kicking for goal, which suggested a lack of preparation (instead of sleeping in their hotel in Alice, were they having a night on the turps) rather than a well-rested team. Let’s face it - this kicking disease that makes them look like raw amateurs is becoming a millstone around the team’s neck.

  • CASEY: Sydney

The Casey Demons were always expected to emerge victorious in their matchup against the lowly-ranked Sydney Swans at picturesque Tramway Oval, situated in the shadows of the SCG in Moore Park. They dominated the proceedings in the opening two and a half quarters of the game but had little to show for it. This was primarily due to their own sloppy errors in a low-standard game that produced a number of crowded mauls reminiscent of the rugby game popular in old Sydney Town. However, when the Swans tired, as teams often do when they turn games into ugly defensive contests, Casey lifted the standard of its own play and … it was off to the races. Not to nearby Randwick but to a different race with an objective of piling on goal after goal on the way to a mammoth victory. At the 25-minute mark of the third quarter, the Demons held a slender 14-point lead over the Swans, who are ahead on the ladder of only the previous week's opposition, the ailing Bullants. Forty minutes later, they had more than fully compensated for the sloppiness of their earlier play with a decisive 94-point victory, that culminated in a rousing finish which yielded thirteen unanswered goals. Kicks hit their targets, the ball found itself going through the middle and every player made a contribution.
