Completely agree to be honest. See a few posters have laughed at your comment, but in a real court of law, you can’t get a fair hearing of the media has released info that may prejudice a jury. The AFL media definitely influence the MRO and Tribunal.

I’m the ‘few posters’ who laughed at THBT’s comment. I actually agree with him but this line is what made me laugh…

It is beyond me why coaches and players aren’t allowed to make comments relating to the MRO but the media is able to judge and convict players. They are judge, jury and executioner. They should not be allowed to comment on this anymore than they would be allowed to comment on legal proceedings.

Watched it twice, plenty of credit for Melbourne was given, yes they were barracking for the underdog but so what, it’s what you do. And the underdog played really well. On 1st Crack King et al all said he would get off on appeal. I am more concerned with they are slow to commentate with speed of play, lots of good touches and efforts get missed all around. In ‘21 King got on board Melbourne early, now we are expected to be good, get used to it. I am over the fact that for season now any analysis of Melbourne has been 40 seconds worth at max. We had so much more airtime previously. I’d settle for 20% of the airtime Nick Daicos gets, for the whole team. Although they did acknowledge that Grawndy will be a weapon in the finals.

In the 3rd quarter the suns got 3 free kicks in front of goal, one to Ellis and 2 to King, all resulting in goals, and they didn’t show the replay of the incident once.

Theres a clear mandate by both broadcasters not to show free kicks being paid in front of goal. That they don’t think we are aware of it is embarrassing. There’s an average of 27 seconds to show a replay of an incident before a shot for goal. The only logical conclusion is that they are trying to protect the umpires.

That free for holding the ball they gave to Ellis I think it was made me puke.  He had hold of him for all of a millisecond and the ball was handpassed clear.

If it was Dusty who was tackled, no free holding the ball and the naritive would have been about how strong Dusty is and they they just can't contain him in a tackle, because of his brute strenght to break out of it.  In actual fact, the Ellis tackle on this occasion really wasn't even all that good and our player (I forget who) basically just slipped it and got a handball clear.

The free kick should never have been played anywhere on the ground, let alone right in front of goal in a close game.  I was quite ok receiving the Gawn free as an evener upper for that one.

Fact was in the final quarter we out played them for the most part, kicked poorly, which kept them in the game when they shouldn't have been, they then got a bunch of goals through part fluke and part bad defending on our behalf and had a chance to steal the game when the shouldn't have been in it.

I can’t recall any criticism of Umpires by TV commentators this year.

Rarely see close-up vision of them nor are they referred to by name.

Fair chance Fox and Seven are under instructions, negotiated as part of the rights.

I suspect that's been the case for many years now Abyss

Confirmed by Carey in his pilot podcast series recently....

..."it really wasn’t something I was totally enjoying,” Carey added. “I knew you could just go there on autopilot, you knew what you had to say... you are muzzled to what you can say, you train yourself to what you should and shouldn’t say."...

Except Razor Ray.

He's every Ch 7 comentators favorite celebrity umpire.

I've even seen kids running around in bright yellow T-shirts with Razor's number on the back.

Love you Ray - now F off.

To highlight how random umpiring can be remember last week when Grundy in a ruck duel out bodied the North ruck who then scragged Grundy as he lost his balance and fell to the ground. Razor came in to give a free to Grundy who didn't wait for Razor to award him the free but just grabbed the ball and ran back getting ready to go. Razor more or less in a show of petulant power one-up-manship awarded the free to the North ruck for Grundy slinging him to the ground. Max then followed Razor down the ground chirping at him. I would love to hear what he said.

Anyway I'm sure Razor changed his mind to teach Grundy a lesson. But what is much worse is that the frees nowadays in over 50% of occasions can go either way. They are just random.

Virtually every other sport on the planet has upped their game to improve the spectacle, reduce bad umpiring mistakes and let the players decide the outcome of matches. The AFL meantime think the  problem lies with us.

Dunstal loves the Suns (or they're paying him). Regularly talks them up and tries to keep them relevent on foxy footy when no one gives a [censored] about them. I wouldn't worry about the commentary.

Honestly, I have a soft spot for the Sun's and hope they do well, because I think the Gold Coast and South East Queensland in particular is much more receptive and fertile ground for Australian Rules than Sydney will probably ever be, but trying to encourage support through rubbish biased commentary is just pathetic.

Imagine had it have been Hawthorn in their prime that piped GC in yesterday's game.  It would have been never ending praise for this great Hawthorn team that 'just do what good teams do and find a way to win, even when they're not playing their best football'.  Maybe Dunstal is just sour, because he was a part of the Clarkson / Mitchel replacement strategy and recient Hawthorn recruiting strategy and he can see his beloved Hawks are in for a decade or more of pain and uncompetitiveness and it's at least partly his fault?

Watched a replay of the 3rd qtr today and noticed that myself. Had to rewind and watch at normal speed to try and work out how King got a free kick dead in front 10 metres out.

Still NFI

I muted the commentary in the 2nd quarter. Dunstall was painful to listen to and always barracks for the opposition against us. Dermie is the same when commentating on Dees games. What is it with those ex-Hawks and the Dees. They are definitely biased against us.

They know Hawthorn is a poor man's MFC 😎

If you want a conspiracy theory, I’ll go all in…

Clubs should ask the AFL now to tell the broadcasters NEVER to comment on whether an issue is reportable at any stage. By doing so they basically pour pressure on the league to respond.  If they don’t ask them now, a big club (Carlton or Collingwood) will say that the commentators have unduly influenced a report on one of their star players (remember, they don’t get reported in play anymore) and use it to get them off.

I reckon it could happen as soon as this year. I’ll put my tin hat away now.

I’m surprised it hasn’t happened yet.

David King just moaning on First Crack that the Suns were robbed. Of course, cherry picking a few situations which went against them, selectively ignoring each of the incidents that went against us in the 3rd quarter that led to three Suns goals.

Robbed? I seem to recall watching one of their blokes take a straightforward shot on goal to level the scores, and spray it out to the right. If they were robbed, they did it to themselves.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
