How is Jed Addams going lots of touches???

Best game he's played in my opinion. Looked like he had lots of confidence in the first half. Quieter in the second half but promising signs considering how far back he’s coming from.

Tmac didn’t play (sprained ankle) and thought it was big Ben’s best game since return. Kicked 3, could’ve had 5. Gave off another couple also. Think he’ll be back in the team sooner rather than later.

Yes Jed is definitely improving and a full season at Casey and another pre season will definitely help his development.

Interesting, I thought he looked pretty weak today. Maybe a bit of a lack of power due to his back, but I wasn't overly impressed.

Lots to work with. Look forward to watching him develop.

And Harmes our Midfield is looking a bit hollow without Dunstan, a Harmes type of big mid and Munro leading the tackle count. This is leaving a lot of the heavy lifting to to few and another reason why we have to go Mid, Mid, Tall, Mid at the next draft.!!

Not sure he ever had mobility to be honest.

Well he has lost some of whatever mobility he had.

I’ve always thought Sexton from GC was good at AFL level, if only a little patchy.

He’d be too good at this level

I think Sexton once kicked five goals against us. Suns AFL must be going well if they can afford to drop him.

Correct.

Those two clowns commentated to amuse themselves.

I think I heard a pearler from them, when one said, " I think the best way to get a clearance is to have the ball" and then another was " when kicking for goal it's best to kick accurately".

Getting back to White, I have never seen him play worse or kick worse. Hopefully it was just a bad day.

I thought our best were Laurie, Howes, Woey and Tomlinson.

But nothing will ever surpass Jack Dyer's immortal commentary insight:

“Bamblett made a great debut last week, and an even better one today.”

I suspect White may have had some 2nd game soreness/blues guys after a long layoff and clean out of that knee.

Maybe a bit of strength and match fitness / conditioning lacking.

Remembering that most players who come into a season off a knee or something that's held em back from a normal full pre-season usually don't perform at their usual standards in some or more games on their return.

We are witnessing a little of this imv with May at the moment.  Fingers crossed he's on the up and up though.

White might need to be managed (off the bench for alot less game time?) at some point depending on how he pulls up today.

Might be best not to judge him too harshly today given the above.

I think that is exactly right...Casey have a bye next week

Just got to keep in mind we played the top team at their home ground. Far from a train wreck today, simply beaten by a better side with a lot of very experienced AFL players.

Dazzle, I can't comment on Woey. Think there is lots to work with in Adams. Others said Howes played well, but to me I'm worried about his defensive work. I wonder if there is a better position for him than half back.

Sure it wasn’t Derrrwayn and Jason starting early?  About Derrrwayn’s standard.

Woey

okay but could have done better

Not our worst

I recall Stretch and JKH. Often excelled at VFL level but couldn't crack the big time.

Woey is not at the VFL level that JKH and Stretch reached but it's only his second year

SUNBURNED by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons traveled north for a top of the table clash against the Gold Coast Suns on Saturday afternoon at Heritage Bank Stadium and were by no means disgraced despite losing their second match in three weeks.

Their cause was not helped by injuries to midfield playmaker Luke Dunstan who accumulated 46 disposals in a game a fortnight ago and key forward Tom McDonald who hurt an ankle at training as well as Melbourne’s decision to rest Michael Hibberd which meant that Daniel Turner was co-opted into the big time for his second game. And it need not be stated but Jimmy Munro’s heavy tacking work is very much missed (but I’ll say it anyway).

Still, the Demons went into the game with what appeared to be a relatively strong team - unfortunately not strong enough to overcome the undefeated Suns on their home turf in the curtain raiser to the sides’ older brother AFL teams.

The Demons started well enough when they matched the Suns’ first goal in quick time with a major from Jack Bell and another from Ben Brown and by quarter time, they held a handy 12 point lead.

The problem for Casey was that the Suns had the dominant ruckman in Ned Moyle who not only picked up 42 hit outs, he also accumulated 19 disposals and was instrumental in his team’s win starting with the early rebound in the second term which netted them two goals in three minutes. In addition, it was the Suns’ accuracy (6 goals from 7 shots) in front of goal that caused them to grab a seven point half time advantage. Meanwhile, the Demons who controlled proceedings in the middle of the second quarter constantly squandered opportunities and finished the second term with two goals six behinds.

From there on it was the home side that had the run of the game. Whenever the Demons made a move, the Suns had the answers and they finally cut through one of the strongest defences in the competition to finish with a 20-point win to retain top place on the ladder. As Casey has a bye next weekend, it will fall further behind the leaders.

Despite the defeat there were some encouraging signs for the Demons. For starters Ben Brown got in the goals with three which could easily have been five or more with better service. Joel Smith was also dangerous around goal and finished with two.

Charlie Spargo with 22 disposals, 7 marks and 4 tackles was lively and should be back in the big time as soon as next week after missing a couple of weeks with concussion. Blake Howes (23 touches, 6 marks) continues to rack up disposals off half back and might not be all that far off a senior game. Bailey Laurie (21 disposals) also showed his class and composure. Taj Woewodin got plenty of the ball and defender Jed Adams played one of his best games to date filling in a key defence position in place of Turner. Andy Moniz-Wakefield was prominent early.

Best of the Casey players were skipper Mitch White and George Grey. White often came under pressure and despite occasionally turning the ball over in the trying conditions, led the way with six strong tackles and finished with 19 disposals. Grey was also impressive in setting up plays during the day.

The week break comes at a good time for younger players like Matt Jefferson and Ollie Sestan time to regenerate their bodies.
