Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I was apprehensive at first, but I'm ok with it as long as their marketing and design of their moniker focuses on the animal. Maybe they can talk to Warner Bros. and pay for the rights to Taz.

Quite possible.

They aren't afraid of taking Victorians though and if Reid is head and shoulder above every other prospect surely they just take him.

They were afraid of taking Victorians last year, hopefully the trend continues...!

Not necessarily.  High draft picks don't guarantee anything.  There's been plenty of high picks that ended up being "C" grade players

That's true, that's why I would spread the risk rather than putting all our eggs in the pick 1 basket...

Clary and the Bont for instance were both pick 4's...

Hopefully.

There's another player in this scenario as well and that's GWS.

Likely to finish bottom 4 and have another probable top 10 pick incoming thanks to the tigers which, unfortunately, gives them a far better starting hand than us.

I don't mind the idea of getting 1#, and Harley certainly sounds good, but who does he replace in the team in the short term?

I have always preferred the Moneyball approach having said that. For me, whatever Taylor ends up doing is ok. He knows all.

Reid showed gamechanging ability as both a rebounding/intercept defender and hybrid forward for Vic Country last year. We could find a spot without having to upset the midfield balance.

This is true. The landscape could look quite different after the National Championships and talent leagues are done. I still think Reid will be out in front, but there will likely be a few more in category 1b.

The last two decades of #1 draft picks from 2002 are

Goddard

Cooney

Delidio

Murphey

Gibbs

Kruezer

Watts

Scully

Swallow

Patton

Whitfield

Boyd McCartin

Weitering

McGrath

Raynor

Walsh

Rowell

Ugle-Hagen

Horne-Francis and

Cadman

If you redrafted these drafts now bugger all of the #1 picks would go #1 again. Who knows, perhaps Harley Reid is different, but I’d rather back Taylor to pick his 3 best in the top 25 rather than just the one shiny bloke who is currently at the top

Might be more interesting to see how we could leverage some other clubs desperation for pick 1 to boost our own position.

E.g. Club A that holds pick 1 insists on getting premium picks back, and Club B has managed to accumulate a pile of other trade value but not the top pick being insisted on.

Anyway, seems to me that it would have to be the Bulldogs in the hunt. Currently with picks 8 and 13 (Bris), likely to trade out players and to accept that they need to boost their young talent - Bailey Smith is their only midfielder of note under 27. The fit is good and the rebuild for the Dogs could be really helped given the development time of the talls they already have, with a gun midfielder or two acquired in 2023-25ish.

Anyway, this thread made me go back and look at drafts. Discounting the too-soon and too-uncertain mess of 2021, I don't think there's a single draft where giving up (for example) a top-5 pick and a top-15 pick for the first selection works out favourably, let alone three early picks.

Harley looks to be a rare egg indeed and an exceptional one at that.  Is he worth three firsts?

Guess we won't know that till about 3 years down the track probably.

Big call on GWS this early and with this coach. I noticed the ballerina type play is more getting down and dirty  lately

So there could be more to see here, especially with dare i say Sydney struggling somewhat.

Last year when we offered 3 firsts (all in the mid to high teens range) but we asked for a second rnd back which would have been mid 20's.

Can't see us offering 3 firsts outright (where one is 5 to 7 range and the other two in the mid to high teens) and not ask for something pretty decent back - again that team's second round pick in the low 20's.  This means one of the first round picks in the high teens simply slides half a dozen spots.  So it wouldn't be 3 firsts as suggested in the proposed hypothetical.

I trust in Taylor. Hope we bear in mind that with a Tassie team in say 3 years. we need to top up our young talent now to get through the compromised tassie draft years.

With the Tassie team coming in and suggestions that there could be 3 years of compromised drafts, we'd be thinking long and hard before trading a package of 3 first round picks for 1 player. Realistically in 2027, the first compromised year we'd be fine, the core of our team would still be around and only 30/31/32 - (Trac, Brayshaw, Salem, Oliver, Lever, Langdon, Fritta, ANB, etc. with Kossie, JVR, Spargo, Bowey and Jefferson etc hopefully hitting their prime).

Including the guys older than them there'd be a list turnover of at least 21 before/during those compromised drafts. Most of whom sit well within our best 30 at present. So the years after that are when the struggle could really hit - like any successful club that's not Geelong! So we'd want to be making allowances earlier so we're not going backwards when the new team comes in.

I know we'll have Brown, Yze and White as potential father sons during that time, and Taylor is great at getting the 2nd round picks right, along with being excellent at trading, so hopefully it's a non-issue, but giving up 3 firsts could have a longer term impact.

I say NO to this prospective deal, but I said NO to Grundy, NO to Elliot from pies, NO to getting rid of Hogan, definitely NO to Jack Watts going and was even upset when we passed on Gysberts.

So I've had a crack and got a pretty terrible strike rate, so unfortunately I am banned from having an opinion "in this space"

Segway ...for a moment.  The introduction of the 19th club... The Devils ( not sure how i feel about that....the name ...lol ) With they're being ushered in comes 3 or 4 years of seriously compromised drafts.

This years draft and maybe next are our chance to snap up and bank some talent before the well goes dry.

You're not going to load up and throw all at 36Red ... no no no

I sense we will fanangle a creep up the positions..but highly doubt an 'all in'

That for mine would be daft

If we go for Segway we are crazy.

I'm okay with Segway at pick 5 and Fanagle with 17. Would bring us a combination of sustained speed and craftiness. Hopefully one or both of Savvy and Wiley will still be available at our later selections.

Let’s wind the clock back two years and ask yourself whether you would rather have:-

• Nick Daicos (taken at pick 4) OR

• Mac Andrew (5), Neil Erasmus (10) and Angus Sheldrick (18)

Your answer please.

There are plenty of not-pick-one good examples of gun kids arriving and making a potent difference in a team breaking through for a premiership. Selwood (Pick 7) and Rioli (13) in their first seasons, and I'd even say that Bontempelli (4) fits in that category with his 36 brownlow votes and a premiership in his first 50 games!

Then again, I'm the kind of person who gets irritated and avoids a movie is everyone is out there telling me how great it is. I'm profoundly hype-averse.

Still, if we were able to end up with 4, 7 and 13... I might go in for a bit of hype myself.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
